  1. I don't really trust any of them, which makes it tough to vote. bigugli - private sector, I have a choice of where my money goes. Public sector not so much. My rhino party never got in. LOL So, unfortunately there will be a double standard if the government operates in a transparent fashion.
  2. bigugli : she is the Premier, one that's in hot water. The leader of our province is supposed to have some brains (LOL). She should have stopped the appointment in its tracks, because of the optics. I'm also very aware that it's who you know that gets the jobs. Most of us have experience with that, but when it's a high profile position with a government organization that should be shelved, that's another thing.
  3. I believe all issues listed in this thread have had an impact. Crappie, water levels and overharvesting. The overharvesting is still happening on the kawarthas and scugog got hit hard because of the ice fishing season. Many anglers still don't read the regulations or totally ignore them. I haven't done much fishing on Scugog lately because I live on Pigeon. A few years back, before the slot, I was getting totally disgusted with the stringers of 4-5 pounders hanging over the boats on opening day. Now many ignore the slot or don't even know it exists. I sure hope that the guys that said the walleye will bounce back are right!
  4. You are right on with that bushart. The same thing happened with hydro. The more people conserved the faster the prices increased. It's always about the bottom line.
  5. Plenty of those situations in this area. I haven't had a raise in 5-6 years and there is just no other employer to move to for an increase. They just aren't interested in 56 year olds like you said. I however, still have a job and should look at it as being fortunate. I feel for you, it's not something any of us ever expected to go through after being with the same co. for 35 years. Going back to the original post. I am needing a newer vehicle soon and was hoping to go with a 4x4 of some kind. Guess I'll be sticking with a 2wd Ranger. I just don't know how I would be able to afford the gas for one of the larger trucks, while commuting daily. My wife wants me to get rid of the small truck I have; says it's too expensive on gas compared to her Echo. I'm fighting her tooth and nails!
  6. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be starting a career right out of school these days. It's has to be pretty bleak for some young ones, who end up working at a fast food joint while having a university degree. I agree with fish farmer, something is going to happen. Just don't know what that something is or when.
  7. So Premier Wynne thinks it's a good idea to appoint her brother-in-law as the interim eHealth boss. When does it stop? Are these people living in the real world? What arrogance. They never cease to amaze me.
  8. I was thinking along the same lines as moxie. Make them eat 27 lbs of roe all at once, then watch out!
  9. I think many follow that rule anyways.
  10. The lakes will still be full of boats and the highways will still be jammed with giant vehicles during the summer weekends and we'll continue to complain. Nothing changes except the price of gas.
  11. Not sure they can close the lake to all fishing since zone 17is now open all year for panfish and pike. They might be able to shut the walleye fishery down for the winter, but I can't see it ever being re-opened again if they do it.
  12. I would hope they took the fine before letting them go, considering how upset he was.
  13. Chris Bowyer in Brentwood (around Angus) is a master taxidermist if he is still doing it. I think he is. A number on the internet is 705-424-6772. He is very good at painting and you should be happy with the results. I was a taxidermist for 25 years and saw his work at many competitions. He usually wiped up with the awards.
  14. Lew: That would be Yankee Line and Boundary Road. It's down to one lane and pot holed.
  15. Misfish: I got it from my daughter. It says greatest dad in the world. Probably not what you were expecting. LOL
  16. Forget Silver Springs. The fishing can be good for bass and pike, but there are probably better accommodations elsewhere. You have to cross the road and go down a slope to get to the water.
  17. And we thought the collapse in game seven last year against Boston was bad. This free fall will hurt much more.
  18. I would also never keep a muskie that large, or any other muskie. That's the biggest benefit of replicas. This big ones get to live and fight another day.
  19. Maybe the guy can't afford to heat his home and this is the only way to survive the winter? Just another way to look at it.
  20. Just experimenting with trying to get photos on here. Sorry for redirecting the focus away from the beautiful replica of your trophy Mike P. These have been mounted for years.
  21. Skin mounts can be very good if done properly; you just have to go to some of the taxidermy competitions to see the quality that some can put out. It's all in the quality of supplies used and the skill of painting. Even replicas can be critiqued to show the flaws. They just don't shrink and stretch with changes in humidity. I will post some pictures if I can figure out how to do it on a reply.
  22. It shouldn't effect the walleye in the Kawarthas. There are none. Usually a late ice out results in a tough bite for opening for me, but the spawn is done.
  23. Two periods of inability to make the simple play (ice the puck, take a pass or dump it deep when changing) then a different team shows up for the third period, scores a couple to get close, then lose. The same old scenario, but now out of a play off spot. Oh, it's hard to be a Leaf fan.
