  1. Bingo. This is the biggest cause of issues using braid on a spinning reel. Slightly less line on your spool and in a smaller diameter would likely help a lot.
  2. Two nice fish for sure, congrat's. For what it's worth I've caught plenty of lakers in the middle of summer on smaller shield lakes simply flatlining deep diving crankbaits. One of my favourites is the Luhr Jensen Power Dive minnow, chrome with a blue back. On a long line with braid it'll get down pretty deep. Even in the summer the thermocline on most of those smaller deep shield lakes isn't that far down and the lakers will roam following the baitfish. They're not always right on the bottom...
  3. Experience is the best teacher. Your boundless enthusiasm for the sport will eventually pay off in spades.
  4. In a manner of speaking. The Sutton is one of the best brook trout rivers in the world.
  5. Thanks lads. I still have a bit of time yet to prep, we're leaving on the 20th. HAHA! True Yep, high tech all the way. It's the Alps Mountaineering Aztec 4
  6. Wow that's crazy. Go buy a lottery ticket quick before your luck runs out.
  7. Nice fish! You should have titled your post "Beauty And The Beast"
  8. This is funny 'cause it's true. It's the sole reason I ditched the two man tent for a larger one LOL! I'm more worried about the paddling. Billy's center of gravity is about 2' above the gunnels. He's like a water buffalo in the canoe. Needless to says everything will be in dry bags.
  9. It's freestanding, but I doubt there'll be any issues pegging it Chris. Most of the river is lines on both sides by fairly substantial spruce trees and there's lots of primo campsites. It's only right at Hudsons Bay that you leave the treline behind.
  10. We'll be spending 12 days in it soon paddling the Sutton. The giant weather machine that's known as Hudsons Bay will test it I'm sure. Did a lot of research before I bought it, with the main criteria being weight and interior space. Amazon.com had by far the best price.
  11. So I've been prepping for a trip coming up soon and figured I should learn how to set up my new tent. It's kind of a bizarre pole design, never seen anything like it before, but it has almost vertical walls and just tons of space for a 4 man tent that weighs 10lb's. Pretty neat design eh? At first it was pretty confusing to put up with the pole set up, but it's actually pretty intuitive. Glad I tried it first in the backyard though. Only question will be durability, but I have to say I love the design.
  12. Outstanding report buddy, glad to see you made it north with Grant. Thanks for explaining "bage" LOL! Now this is funny.
  13. Pleasure meeting you guys, have yourselves a great trip!
  14. Good to see you on the board buddy, didn't even know you were a member! And yes I remember your garbage scow quite well. (btw "Fontinalis Hurtubise"? HAHA! Nice )
  15. Welcome back, sounds like an amazing trip. You havn't been missing out on any "cool" Canadian air though.
  16. Amazing. I like this so much that my wife might get jealous. I'd like to take this post for coffee and find out what it thinks about stuff.
  17. Nice pic's! Carp on the fly sounds pretty cool.
  18. Of course the mayor is saddened by the OFAH's statement. Valuable tourism dollars will potentally be lost. Anyone who believes gill netting isn't the major cause of the decline in the fishery either has a direct stake in the commercial fishery or is simply deluded. If the mayor wasn't so typically Canadian, afraid to ruffle feathers and stir the pot, he'd do something to stop the netting. Then maybe there'd be tangible results resurrecting the fishery and boosting the local econonmy. Isn't Mike Harris from North Bay? Let him run for mayor and maybe something will change. Why do I always get sucked into these discussions? LOL!
  19. Looking forward to the report bud. Before posting scroll down to the bottom and click on "click to configure post options". You'll have 4 options to choose from, pick "HTML On-Auto Linebreak Mode"
