  1. Awesome photos, but I'm sure pictures don't do the colours justice. Definitely my favourite species of fish! Great report! Tightlines!
  2. Awesome fishing report Dana! I'm really liking the looks of those fat specks, not to mention the pickerel. Tightlines!
  3. So I've been pretty fortunate since trout season opened up in zone 16. I've managed to land some big resident rainbows, a nice hen steelhead, and lots of beautiful brookies. I don't get out in boats very often (so lakers are few and far between), but I do hike and explore a lot. Today I decided to track down some brown's as I hadn't landed any larger than 6-8" this year. I figured I would try a stretch of river/creek that I've wanted to fish for years, but have just never made the time. I've always focused on my old spots, but after today maybe I'll start acting on my thoughts. So I landed about 6 or 7 beautiful browns, nothing smaller than 13" and ended up retaining a single 19" beauty. At one point I had 3, 20-22" browns basically fighting for my lure at the same time. The only way I can describe it was like a shark feeding frenzy. I have not experienced brown trout fishing this good, aside from fishing the Bow River in Calgary. I managed to snap a few photos for posterity sake, but still need to grab myself a replacement trout net and tripod. Tightlines! 4. Obviously this site isn't fully developed with extensive records yet! lol This site is about showing off your big catches! If there isn't a lot submitted yet, anything over 9" might be a record. haha The more submissions, the more realistic the yearly records become!
  5. Hi Everyone, http://www.recordfishcanada.com/index.html Just came across this new website called Record Fish Canada. It is a place to upload pictures of your biggest catches for record keeping and maybe a little bragging. I'm in no way affiliated with it, I just wanted to bring some attention to it. Tight Lines!
  6. There is definitely some Brook Trout in it, in my opinion. Blackened mouth, both internally and along the lips. White leading edge on fins, with red specks and blue halos. It really is one of the more interesting specimens that I have caught. My thought is still more Brookie than Laker, but most likely it's a hybrid of some sort. Anyone ever catch a Brook Trout in Georgian Bay?
  7. Pretty good movie, but I thought it was about 20-30 mins too long. Some parts seemed to drag on at times. Overall though I did enjoy it and was glad to see it on the big screen.
  8. That's some really interesting information.
  9. Bouncing a spinner along the river bottom
  10. Lots of brookies in Halton Region. I've caught lots near Burlington and the surrounding towns/villages/cities. Keep at it and you'll find them. Just DO NOT TELL ANYONE. If you do they won't stay a secret for long.
  11. I couldn't agree more. I always make sure to identify something before deciding to retain, especially when they may be a legally protected species.
  12. Thanks for the help identifying this for me. I thought it was, but I wasn't sure. The next one won't be so lucky. Cheers
  13. A higher resolution photo My vote is for speck, but I haven't heard of anyone catching a speck in Georgian Bay before... hmmm
  14. Just caught what I believe to be a 22" lamprey in the Credit River. This was a first for me and I wasn't 100% positive it was an invasive sea lamprey so I released it after taking a few photographs. Could anyone help me identify this for future reference? Thanks Rob
  15. I need some help identifying this trout. I was out shore fishing Georgian Bay this past weekend and happened to land this nice 13" brook trout. I was kind of surprised as I was expecting a rainbow or maybe a small laker. Now I'm not too sure if it's a speck or a splake. If you could offer your expertise it would be greatly appreciated!
  16. Close to my (old) stomping ground! I actually fish almost exclusively barbless. After fishing out West a bunch, where the regs require it, I decided that I didn't really lose any more fish because of the barbless hooks. Plus, it made releasing them that much quicker and with less harm, unless they were for dinner! I did have a pretty thorough article kicking around somewhere that actually studied whether barbless hooks would cause more lost fish than barbed. I can't find the article, but I do remember reading that the findings found no statistically significant difference. I found it really interesting
  17. I've actually considered the GorillaPod before, but I was using dslr's mostly so I was a little paranoid about their quality. Now that I primarily use a compact camera, I think I'll look more seriously at getting one. The only thing I really miss when fishing solo is the ability to take some sweet shots.
  18. Thanks. For anyone who is interested, here's a couple more pics! Sorry I don't have any pics with me holding him, but fishing solo has a few downsides. After cleaning Dill, butter, salt and pepper...
  19. Hey All! So I thought to myself today, it's such a nice day that I'm going to try that new spot I've always thought about hitting, but never bother since my honey hole is much (10 minutes) closer. haha I headed down to the river with my trusty hip waders on, itching for the water. I had already scouted which bank I wanted to be on for each potential run I could identify through Google Earth. So I found a few great looking runs, and some moderately deep holes, which I know from experience often hold big boys and girls. So I've been here for about 30 mins and had caught 4 or 5 8-10" little rainbows, and I figure what the heck, I may as well head back downstream to where I had planned on fishing. I head back downstream and notice this this great looking run. I had just switched to a lure I have not typically used for rainbows or browns, so I figure, there has to be a brute in there so I cast across the hole and slowly bring my lure back across the drop off when.... BLAM! Hog Johnson. Nice 25" rainbow. What a fight on the ultra light spinning reel. Good 10-15 minute battle, burning the drag, rolling and thrashing. I was lucky enough to catch an equally impressive 24.5" rainbow last week, but the fight on this guy was the best I've had. I tip my hat to you sir. Tight lines. Rob edit: added new pics
  20. My father recently acquired a Minn Kota Endura 36 trolling motor that needs new motor brushes and maybe motor seals. Would anyone happen to know where I could buy parts for it? Somewhere in the GTA would be preferable, but if you have any ideas, please PM me or reply here! Thanks!
  21. The one with the tape measure was 17", a beauty for sure! I have a lot more photos of this past weekend, but unfortunately I can't post them because it would give too much information away and risk ruining these two pristine sources of specks!
