  1. smaller hooks, smaller line diameter, smaller weights. harder to feel the bite with bottom weighted, or heavily wieghted rigs. when the are feeding hard you can fish anything, but when they are lazy or picky you have to move on them right away..
  2. 15-20 feet isn't even a car length. and at 50km/hr its a millisecond. it takes a truck that size hundreds of feet to change lanes. sounds like you both had the same lane picked.its possible he sees the lane is clear, does a mirror check, changes lanes, now you have entered the lane thru the red light that he had seen a second before as clear. you are, after all, only a car length into it. shouldnt be changing lanes thru an intersection id agree. i drive a big vehicle all the time. once you commit to something like changing lanes there is little to be done to avoid anything.
  3. if the trailer spots were full of cars, would not the trailer guy have to leave his boat unattended as well to find a spot? longer, perhaps, while he tries to find a spot for both truck and trailer?
  4. the difference one is made for trailers, and has greater sidewall strength and stiffness, and the other is built with ride quality, handling, performance, etc. more in mind. because car tires work doesn't mean its the right decision. a manhole cover would work as well but it is not built for it. the amount you are driving really makes no difference, driving less than a hundred k doesnt mean you won't encounter any hazards, or develop the heat or wear that causes tire failures. tires don't come rated for trips plus or minus 100k, they come rated for the task they are designed for, be it cars or trailers and for the loads applied. side by side a 15" trailer tire is cheaper than a decent car tire. why use the wrong one? the answer is likely because they were on the trailer or got picked up cheap or something.. sure everyone has an opinion. mine is use trailer tires cause that's what they are for. another opinion is don't encourage a guy to use improper equipment.
  5. if its well signed, then parking spots for trailers are for trailers regardless of how busy it is, or any other reason. it is, after all, parking for the boat launch. i suppose one could say it is unfair to trailerless boaters, but there are usually spots for this as well. and it is, after all, parking for the boat launch. when a guy drops a 50 foot truck and trailer rig in a regular parking lot no one seems that happy about it, so why not the other way around? at the public launches in hamilton there is parking for both, and its patrolled regularly to tag cars in the trailer zones.
  6. ive had reasonable success with them. keeping them moving helps and you have to be pretty attentive to the rod. as for storage they harden into concrete when left on the hook...i repackage into small mason jars and keep them upright, easy to remove without dunking. what is amazing is the liquid that gets on everything thru plastic does almost the same, the jar is always slick with the oily substance on the outside, like it has wicked or condensed. all impossible the point being i dont know how you can store these things without getting some oil around.
  7. minnows are my first choice, the smallest gulp minnows work if they are active you just need to be on with hook sets cuz they dont stick around. i agree that worms dont work well on the parts of erie i fish, cant explain why. as a back up bait we bring some shrimp off a cheap shrimp ring, and cut pieces off. or get salad shrimp and use full size. the best part of this bait is its clean, easy to handle and lasts for multiple fish...
  8. i did a trip on nippissing last year and all of the oldtimers in the group were talking about how they dispatched the sheephead when they caught them... what i found funny was there really wasn't a 'serious' or 'experienced' fisherman in the whole group - they were just acting on something they had heard from their uncle bert or at the legion or something.. I asked them the merit of killing and sinking the sheep head - not one could explain why..just they had heard it once before and they did it all the time on their once a year trip..they really thought they were acting for the greater good. -and it is pretty unheard of for a naturally occurring species to be 'bad' for its enviroment. (with one obvious exception of course)
  9. we should be careful what we say or these "weapons grade peppers" will become outlawed
  10. so you are telling me you apply these peppers or their sauce to food and eat it? chefs that use this stuff wear safety glasses and gloves, sometimes respirators. in one of my cooking gigs i made alot of wings in a chicken joint. A brave soul once wrote in the order ticket "give it to me hot i can take it"...we let him have it!! He leaned down, took a deep breath and almost lost it - his whole face went red and his eyes started watering...the waitress that carried the tray out needed a glass of water and had to go outside to cool off... IF you guys can stomach anything past a bonnet or habanero I AM IMPRESSED!! and just a little disgusted...
  11. the ghost pepper has as much to do with spicy food as atomic bombs do to firecrackers.. It will taste like a mouth full of mace..but im intrigued as well...had some experience with a similar pepper the 'naga' and small tastes of the skin with a little flesh attached induced bizarre consequences including vomiting and praying for death. the rumour is the pepper actually has some sort of woody or smoky flavor but who could tell?? cause anyone that ever ate one thru themselves off a building to stop the pain.
  12. in spite of basic biology fish don't explode when inverted, and seem to do so to get free of something, or to get a better purchase on something, or to rip something up...who hasn't seen a fish invert or shake or whatever... there was no suggestion the musky hovered inverted the entire time what do you call it when pike and musky get the line wrapped around them at the side of the boat..pretty sure the fish rolled around..i certainly didn't wrap the rod around it a half dozen times.
  13. Yer playing with fire my friend. While a common thought that the habanero is the hottest, or at least very hot it can't shake a stick at the ghost pepper. habaneros average around 150,000 on the scoville scale, pretty hot considering a red pepper is a 0. but the ghost pepper runs 900,000-1.1 million on the scoville scale..and is arguably the hottest on the planet.. commercial pepper sprays are in the 700,000 range. I can't see any value in their use for cooking or seasoning foods. anything past a habanero, or maybe a scothch bonnet is just blow your head off nasty! ill pass on the peppers enjoy the ceasar!
  14. Hmmm, never thought of such a thing. my first guess is that next to nothing sticks to nylon..
  15. just a bad day to be a walleye. the only thing left out is to shock 'em with a car battery a few times. a coworkers son showed us feeding time at the snapping turtle exhibit..eats a fullsize white rat, bit it in half like it was a Slim-Jim. I think they could chomp a walleye to bits no problem. of course, a raccoon is smart enought to unhook the stringer, remove the fish and hook it back up just to confound you..
  16. I hate to say anything other than original equipment in great condition, but you wouldn't be the first guy to tap a bolt. There is alot of metal to work with to get a good grab with the oversized bolt.. i just mentioned the differnent sizes as to avoid a DOH on the side of the highway a year after your forget you did it!!
  17. Maybe a coil is overkill, how about just drill and tap 1 size larger.. Course, have to carry extra wrench or multi if you have roadside change..
  18. its not a barn raising Raf, stick it in the hole. A belly full of coors light should help things go smoothly.
  19. how big is the pole that requires a truck to lift it? can't you just lift the end, other end falls in the hole, stand it up, brace it with 2x4 and a stake... you got this idea from the eqyptians or something, but those were 40ton blocks..
  20. Ah, no. They are not self charging. Congrats on the exam
  21. For sure it does. A tuber or skier produces significant drag, you will have difficulty tracking straight, it will pull one side down, the tie downs are nowhere near as strong as the transom eyes
  22. i have one of the pole systems you mentiotioned but dont use it..i use the yoke and transom eyes as mentioned, no problems... but my boat would sit higher in the water than your bass boat. the boat only goes as fast as you drive it, so im sure you can find a comfortable speed to tube at. i do get it if the minimum plane speed is too high, don't know what that speed is??? i dont understand the commment that a boat is too powerful or too fast to ski/tube behind. Not enough power to pull a guy up is a problem but an abundance of power is great when getting up behind a boat, particularly from a dock/beach start. If yer ripping the guys arms off that is a driving choice not a boat problem:)
  23. biggie! real healthy looking too. nice.
  24. if a giraffe escaped from the toronto zoo and was hit by a GO train would we now have definitive proof of giraffes in Ontario? i hope, and firmly believe there are cougars in ontario. as mentioned, the place is huge. i used to keep a boat in Bala, one night a stretch limo pulls up to the dock and out steps a massive bengal tiger, stripes and all. climbed onto a water taxi it (the tiger) had been booked for some big shots birthday party on an island somewhere. was pretty interesting, never sat in a car with an 8ft cat before.
  25. ill chime in. Kuhn's storage in niagara falls will help you out. google it and there are instructions online..
