  1. Wow - you guys are hardcore!!!! Nice set-ups and wrapping. I am proud of my ties but they are way less artistic. You can tie your first rod with zero start-up costs though. Correct - you will not likely save much if any $$$$$ - especially with all of the fairly good 100 buck rods out there now. I like mudhole.com MHX blanks a lot. They are cloned after IMX blanks are light and very affordable. Each rod will still cost you a 100+ though, but you will have built it just like you want and that is the one and only reason to build rods IMO. Check out mudhole's site. I have tied up 3 rods from them and they are all really nice. If you order a few at once then that drives the price down nicely. Their prices on blanks and components are way better than local prices. Landry
  2. I hear ya. I tried it because I wanted to add it to the bucket list They jump like crazy and are very aggressive Just twitch that bait near them and they shoot out and snap it up
  3. Have seen lots at these: percy boom lake erie coves / shorelines collingwood bays and harbour detroit r
  4. This is just my opinion. This will likely not be what you want to hear but my advice would be to not bother - they have very little pulling power at all, (but they are easy to catch and are acrobatic). I have had good success with small rapalas and streamers - smaller hooks and baits work better for keeping them hooked. They stink too. I wanted to like them but carp are just waaaay better fish on a fly. I won't even cast at them anymore. Landry
  5. Yes - but it is way over 100 bucks.
  6. It is deadly on crappies Never found it all that great on perch or bass I have tested it against regular plastics for crappies many times when the bite was going strong and it outfished plastics every time. Landry
  7. Best hook set ever!!!!
  8. It may still be okay but I thunk his asking price of 10,500 is now way too high. That older motor, lightly used or not, drives the value of that boat down. I would lowball him and be willing to walk - there is always another boat around the corner. I personally wouldn't go higher than 9000 max! And honestly probably no higher than 8000. (Boat 4000, Motor 3000, Trailer 1000 tops!) Used boat prices right now make me laugh - it is ridiculous in my opinion. Landry
  9. That sounds real fishy - I would look elsewhere. There is no way to prove any of his info and those boats come with factory trailers so I think he is "stretching" things a bit:)
  10. absolutely no less than 65 lb!!!!!!!!! preferably 70 - 80.
  11. He has the best service!!!! Many other places will require you to take your motor off your boat or they won't even look at it. He also fixes reels...
  12. • I have owned 2 crestliner 16 footers. One was a 2003 and it was a terrific boat - wide, stable, great storage. You should be able to get a 9' rod in that storage which is handy on the niagara or muskie fishing. The 90 hp will run it at 30 - 40 mph I am guessing. I highly recommend a fish hawk. I would buy one over a lund personally. • I bought both crestliners in the states and can help you with info if u need. Send me a PM and we can talk on the phone or I can send you some written info on the paperwork and steps... IT IS EASY!!!!! • I think 10,500 is a very good starting price if that boat checks out. You can count on spending 1500 though on new batteries, 24 v trolling motor (54 or 60 inch shaft - do not go with a 12v!!!!), and other odds and ends like new tires... • Boat prices are ridiculous right now. There were waaaay better deals a year or more ago. You can still save a ton of money if you are patient but if you can get that 1750 F.Hawk for 9,500 that would be a good deal if it is in good shape. As a point of reference I sold my 2003 1650 Fish Hawk/70 hp 4 stroke a year ago for 12,000 but it had a trolling motor on it. • Google "sitemash crestliner" and it will take u to a site called jaxed where it gathers listed boats on craigslist, kijiji and ebay for you. Enter Fish Hawk in the subject box to narrow your search. Newest posts will be on top. Check out the site. Landry
  13. My weekend muskie opener trip just got cancelled last minute!!!!!! Feels like Christmas got cancelled:( Some things are more important than muskie fishing though - believe it or not. Landry
  14. I have the 2008 version - great chip for kawarthas - detailed. Buy it
  15. I tow a wide 16' boat with my minivan. The trailer/boat/motor package is around 2000 lbs. No worries - just add towing package. Trailer brakes would be a VERY good idea though!
  16. There is a new upgrade for it on their website. I tried to load it into mine - wouldn't work!!?? Mine loses depth all the time in shallow. Maybe try the upgrade???? You are likely more computer savvy than me?!
  17. i like the crappie colour double ten bucktail - looks perty:) I can't wait till next weekend!!!!!! Better than Christmas.
  18. If it wasn't tied up or touching the boathouse structure then it would just be plain ignorant and idiotic, not illegal.
  19. Depends how heavy the boat is. If it is a basic aluminum boat - that is slow for that motor. If it has lots of decking, livewell... then it is a tad bit slow but close. You could get 30mph if the boat is light and basic with a new 40 hp - but I bet you would only get around 25 mph and slightly higher. Does it really matter. If the motor starts well and runs well, then don't change a thing IMO. BTW - if you need a trolling motor - my friend has a practically new one for $450 (minn kota bow mount, 55 lb thrust, 12v). I get nothing out of the sale - the motor has been used 6 times at the very most!!!!!
  20. I got the idea you disagreed with Ron - sorry about that. Stuff like that (greed of the wealthy) really bugs me. I totally understand that they don't want people casting right around their $100 000 boats, (although the water next to their boat is obviously navigable as well) But this is not about dock fishing - that is a whole other debate - the roped off areas in Long Point are outrageously big!
  21. It is obvious why he is doing this isn't it??? The water is navigable and can be owned by no-one!!!! Marinas have no right to claim the water as their own. If, as you say, some marinas have been leased the water in their cove - I am sorry, that is just plain wrong! Police backing them when there is no real legal grounds to do so is just an example of "big business" (at least big in that area) bullying! I got kicked out of one of those roped off marina areas in Long Point once by a policeman. I felt bullied and left even though I felt there was no way they owned the water. I do realize that fisherman near boats and docks are annoying but those roped off areas in Long Point are massive - staking their claim on something that should not be able to be owned! Good job Ron! Landry
  22. Does it give you a clear picture when casting or moving slowly. I heard they are best at 4 mph. What does the image look like when inching along / casting???? Thanks
  23. Jos is the man - he knows his stuff, but the Eagle 640's are chronic leakers. I bought one for cheap - it leaked in the first year - Lowrance sent me an Elite 5 unit with no arguments. For that price though, I would gamble on it and get it real wet in the first year just to test it while under warranty.
