It's pretty much true. I think a lot of businesses just shut down since it opens on a weekday. My Dad is from Pennsylvania and the schools shut down for the first 2 days of rifle season and probably do in a lot of areas of MI also. Here in Indiana we get the guns out tomorrow. I've been hunting since September 15th though with crossbow.

I have just started catching them this summmer and have only ate a couple when the water was higher and I could get my boat in there. They are fine to eat. Anything fried in peanut oil and shore lunch batter is good.

The Dam at Lake Freeman just south of Monticello. About 1 1/2 hours from Indy.

It has been fun. Catching them all on topwater lures. This fish broke my pole.

Not sure if Ontario has any of these wipers but I've been catching quite a few here in Indiana. Here is a big one I got yesterday.

I have been on there lake several times while staying in shining tree. It's decent but the back lake Okawakenda is the one you want to get on. Rhonda camp has boats on it. My son and I were determined to get our boat up the rapids into Okawakenda and almost ended up turning the boat over. It was kind of scary for a little while.

I have gone up to shining tree camp the last 2 years in June. We like to fish for small mouth and do pretty well. We got some northern also and go into some walleyes on Michiwakenda. We tried to take our boat up into Okawakenda and almost flipped it over in the rapids. I hear it's a great lake but we weren't able to make it up there. I know there are areas where fishing can be easier but the price at shining tree camp with my Son being free can't be beat. I believe a lot of people go up into lakes along grassy hill road. I just found out about this road on my last trip and plan to check it out next time up there. As for your question, not sure how the fishing has been since we were there in June. Have you been to the area before? I'd be interested to hear what other lakes you have tried.

We went to Tamar a few years ago and the water was low. We busted a prop just before entering cross lake. I agree Bruce will help you. We fished for smallmouth a lot but they will not be in season yet. My wife is from London. You don't know any Macknesses do you?

Heck, last year my friend got back into the US without a passport of any kind. He left it at the fishing camp! Good thing they let him in becuase I was leaving his butt there if they didn't.

My sister in law from London came down to visit last weekend. I was surprised to find out that she had snow tires on her car. We had a little disagreement about whether or not snow tires were needed. I thought everyone just used all season tires now. Is it common in Ontario for people to have 2 sets of tires per car?

Are you staying at shining tree camp? We went there last June for the first time and are going back this year. We didn't catch much walleye and mostly ended up fishing for smallmouth as that is what we could catch which was fine for us. Might want to try to get in to Okawakenda if you can. I hear it's good. I'm hoping i can get my boat to it this summer. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into Nabakwasi? I also have that on my list to try this summer. I believe someone told my it has an ok launch.

Big news down here. I work in the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering at Purdue. We are having a memorial service tomorrow evening.

I have been successful for smallmouth in Ontario using senkos. I actually use the generic bass pro version called stiko's. We were up in the shining tree in early June. The smallmouth seemed to prefer the plastic worms. If you need more info on how to fish these let me know. I had no idea until someone from the site taught me now before my 1st trip to Ontario.

I consider it loosing a day becuase we were talking about leaving Friday night or 2 or 3 in the morning on Sat but now he is talking about leaving Sat evening.

Suppossed to be leaving late Friday or early Saturday morning to come up to Ontario for a week of fishing with my Son and a friend and his son. My friend just sent me a note saying we needed to talk about the departure date. He says his wedding anniversary is on the 9th and his wife works Thursday night so they can't do anything until Friday night. Like he didn't know this before now! I replied back that I hate to lose a day on a trip we have been planning for 5 months and asked if he could do something before Thursday.

I've been reading a lot lately about going barbless and I have started pinching the barps on many of my lures, especially pike ones for my trip in a few weeks. A few years ago I was in the emegency room with a treble hook in my finger. If had been barbless I could have got it out.

Do any of you fish without a trolling motor? I am going on a trip soon with a couple of guys that don't fish much. They are renting a boat. They get a 8 horse motor but no trolling motor. I use mine all the time.

Timmins fire #9. Are fishing lodges closed?

You planning on going to shining tree camp? I'm planning on going June 9th. Derek told me they are watching it very closely. -
I salted some minnows for the first time this past weekend using this process: http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/tips/general/how_to_make_salted_minnows.htm This took some time. Is there a quicker way that some here have had success with? I read somewhere about just having the bait shop put them straight into a zip lock bag and covering them with salt.

You guys using 5200, are you using it on aluminum. The package does not mention aluminum. Saw some at home depot. Also, saw some jb water weld. Maybe I should try that.

I was waiting for Cabelas to put them on sale and in the mean time found this one that I ordered the other day. This also has traditional sonar which the lowrance did not and has a bigger screen. http://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/humminbird-58-ci-hd-di-combo-fishfinder?manufacturer_id=35
