LOL!!! I was reading the fine print in our contract and on page 67 / section 9.9 it states that: 'Dave must assist Laszlo in catching his first Steelhead for Laszlo to name his first born Dave' 7 pounds 11 ounces born on Jan. 12th at 4:30 pm.

Yes, the word on the street is correct. Yesterday my wife Anna gave birth to our first child. WHAT A DAY! Both Anna and little Eliana are resting and doing well. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

As of late, I've been seeing and hearing this term used more and more often. Was wondering how many people use it and if anyone knows where it comes from. I grew up not knowing of it.

1 Strike - That's cool. We all make mistakes. 2 Strikes - Hmm...I'll let it slide. 3 Strikes - YOUR DONE. LATER. As far as Fishing World goes, I've been there only once to buy my Raven IM-8 Float Rod and the service was great.

I stopped drinking bottled water at home a little over a year ago. I do still use them when I go fishing but re-fill them with tap water a couple times before recycling them. From what I hear Nestle takes their water from little streams / creeks to the point where they become mud flats and can no longer sustain any flow or life. Other companies take water from 3rd world countries, taking the resource away from the VERY poor and charge them to try and get it back.

I'll chop them in half next time...thanks man. I tried for some T.O. Pike on Sunday with no success. The end of winter is already heavily on my mind.

Hey Bill. Thanks for the info but they are reduced and looking normal on my computer. I posted them the way I always do. Are they huge on your screen? They start big on my screen and after 5 seconds they reduce to normal size :/ On another note - Any Steelhead for Christmas???

After a very difficult attempt on Sunday, I thought I should bring this thread back to life. Last minute I decided to fish a river I hadn't been to since mid November. Water levels were up a bit and the forecast was calling for a calm not so cold day. This area lacks depth a bit so the water being a little higher was good. I drove into town to see the water looked great! I don't fish in town though as it's wide open and too many anglers. Once I got to my spot things looked crazy. The banks had plenty of ice, which I expected, but there was also a ton of slushy ice being washed down river exactly at the spots I needed to cast. I continued on... After three hours I went 0/0 fishing next to impossible conditions. The slush was everywhere preventing my float to sit right and my bait from getting down below the surface properly. I understand that timing is everything when it comes to Steelheading and I'll be the first to say that I was way off on this one. Lesson learned. This was one of the pools that didn't have as much slush washing down but it's not the best spot and lacks depth. As I approached this pool I could see that it was next to impossible to fish. See the line of ice coming down. That's exactly where the fish are. The best pool there, that had produced most of my catches earlier in the year, wasn't even close to fishable. It's the main artery of the river and everything was washing down there. Till next time... Thanks for reading. Laz

“April Vokey is so hot!” Yes she is! I'm just imagining the faces on 'the guys' fishing the river when they see her come walking by. Priceless.

Now that winter is here I find myself fishing less and spending more time indoors. What a perfect time to find new music & listen to some tracks from the past. I even pick up the old dusty acoustic in the corner and learn some new songs. How about you...what are you listening to these days? I've been listening to Bon Iver for a bit now and can't get enough: Highdrifter got me on to Jose Gonzalez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3LLoUnJl0s Going way back...there's Son House. Something about 1 man, a chair and a guitar just gets me right. (The White Stripes also do a version of this song)

This year I fished more than ever. With that, endless amounts of info digestion occured. 1) Texas Rigging Plastic Crayfish for Smallies!!! 2) Reading River Water 3) Improved my Jigging Techniques 4) Stealheading. Way too much to write. The amount to learn is endless. Thanks to everyone who helped me on the board and a special shout out to Highdrifter, Wallacio, Stonefly, BillM, DMASSE and Twocoda.

If you asked me this question 3 months ago, I would have answered Small Mouth Bass. Now, I would have to say Steelhead. Fight really well and are fun to look at. Don't get me wrong though. Smallies still have a special place in my heart.

Yesterday I checked the forecast and saw that it was going to be –6 feels like –12 this morning and thought, forget it. The water I wanted to fish was still high and stained and I thought, no way. Seems Highdrifters (Fidel) enthusiasm is infectious because today at 7am I somehow found myself beside a river. Not the one I was hoping to fish but a river nonetheless. Glad I did! We both ended the day 3/4 and getting into some nice fish… Thanks for Reading.
