Hahahaha! Classic!

I've had great early mornings, great evenings and a fair share of great mid-day trips. There is no "best time". If you want to test the theory, start at first light and go home at dusk. Hmm.. but then what about the night bite?

I eat what the government guidelines suggest in the guide to eating sport fish is a safe consumable amount.

Became a big fan of Spro crankbaits a couple years ago. Good success on bass and walleye with them.

Never caught a bass on a spinnerbait in Hamilton Harbour. My best success there has always been on texas rigged tube jigs, 3" grubs and occasionally Big O crankbaits.

So Ryan (The Urban Fisherman) called me earlier in the week since I'm on holidays to ask if I could help him out with some stuff for THE SHOW. And of course while we were out we would have to cast a line in. So we headed to his reservoir yesterday to get things done. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to disclose about what we did for THE SHOW so I'll skip right to the fishing aspect. We were gonna fire lines in for carp while we got the other gear ready and such but the carp were nowhere to be seen. After doing a bunch of business stuff we spent a couple hours casting for bass. Things were pretty slow on the reservoir, we only caught mainly less than 1lb bass but Ryan finally scored with a 1.5lber on the Chigger Craw before we left. I think we got about 14 bass between us, which is not bad.. just wish some of them were of decent size. Anywho, here's some pics of the fishing aspect of the day. WGSF made several appearances, OF COURSE! This was pretty much the average size bass Double header! Up until Ryan got the slightly bigger fish of the day, I had been bragging about how bad I was schooling him with my spinnerbait. lol He stuck with his plastics and finally got the big fish. It wasn't a stellar day of fishing, heck it barely was a day of fishing but we got a lot done for THE SHOW and I was glad to help out. Ryan anytime you need help doing that again I'm there. Now I'm just waiting for my name in the credits LOL Good times! Thanks Ryan!

That first speck is a beast! Nice job!

To embellish and say 7.. maybe 8... MAYBE would be a fish story. To catch a 4-5lb bass and tell the world it's TEN? That's just a little too much. And I really don't think it's the first bass the guy's ever caught. Besides, if dude wants to tell a story like that, he better learn some better camera tactics!

Egg sinker, barrel swivel and a long shank baitholder hook, loaded with corn ought to do. As for best times, I've always found carp fishing best in the evening. Good luck. Hope we get to see a report.. there are some tanks in there.

If the guy could afford a fishing show without sponsors, I'm sure it would be a half hour of pure facts and entertainment. Unfortunately, sponsors fuel the industry and demand a little promotion for dishing out their cash for guys like Dave's paycheck. Dave's a good egg. The show is entertaining. His lure colour (like many others) works just fine. If you don't like what you see, you could always flip channels. I hear Jerry Springer's on channel 12.

Talkin' bout a fish that will swim up from 25fow to hit a spook.. Trust me dude, big difference with the fast retrieve. Smallies love to chase their prey. Don't give 'em time to think about it!
-
Lipless crankbait in the most natural color you can find. Whip it out as far as you can, rip it back fast. When you think you're reeling fast enough, speed up!
-
8 largies in 4 hours - next trip will be much better dude! But good work!

Well now you gotta post them.

My great uncle loves to tell the story about one time he was night fishing for bass on Rice Lake with a Jitterbug. It's pitch black, he feels a hit, and up goes his lure. He caught the line class record horned owl. lol

Yessir, I can't hide the fact that I love fresh BBQ brown trout. Though after seeing the sewage incident today, I don't think I'll be keeping anymore. Not that I'm worried about pollutants.. but that is going to take out a lot of fish I'd bet. Need the rest to breed!

Had a bit of a stress incident today.. had to clear my head and what better way to do that then to head out fishin? First plans were to bike to a neighbouring town and fish some bass but I got lazy and the weather didn't look too great so I just headed down to my trout holes to see what would happen. Almost instantly with the magic jerkbait I was into an average sized brown. Headed down river to check out a spot I rarely fish.. kinda like my favorite spot on the river that I don't want to ruin by fishing too much.. and I almost cried at the sight. There is an outflow from the sewage treatment plant that runs into the river upstream of my spot.. out of that outflow was some sort of red silt. It didn't stink like sewage, but it certainly wasn't a good thing. There were three people on cell phones calling the MOE, MNR and county when I got there so hopefully things will get fixed up... but the damage is already done. Everywhere downriver from there the bottom was covered in this reddish/orange silt, visibility in the water was ZILCH and obviously I didn't catch any fish down there. Trying to clear the anger at the county for that crap I headed back up river to a tributary creek and played with one brown for quite some time that kept chasing the jerkbait but would not bite. I decided to move and cast upstream at him and rip it back fast, not give him time to think. First cast doing this the bait was smacked by the first speck I've ever caught out of this area. Not big by any means, but cool to see a speck so close to home anyway. He took some eye damage from the jerkbait but was released to grow bigger and hopefully make babies. After that I toyed around at a few other spots and caught some chub minnows before deciding I was hungry and it was time to return home. With the exception of the silt destruction downriver it was a good way to kill off a couple of hours. I've grown very fond of the inland trout fishing since I moved here. Very peaceful. A great way to clear your mind and get in touch with nature. But dang, I miss bass fishing. lol

Me and my buddy Marc have been dying to get out again since he left for the military a year back. Well now he's back and we decided to head to a couple of quarry pits where I have never really fished besides through the ice. Great choice! The second we got to the pits the rain started coming down. I nailed a half dozen tiny bass on a spinnerbait and a jitterbug and Marc nailed one on a jointed Rapala. There was a good half hour there where there was thunder, lightning and gale force winds surrounding us.. even the toughest of fishermen would get a little nervous in that, but we were determined not to leave and stuck it out.. even caught a couple more little bass. After the storm subsided we moved over to another pit and the weather became just beautiful. I waded in to a shallow spot and started chucking a chatterbait and nailed the one and only decent bass of the evening. I'm normally all C&R.. but today I was just craving some fresh fish so we kept this bass to bring home and fry up. Within 20 minutes Marc is tossing a Rattle Spot (perch colored) and hooks into something decent. When he saw it was a pike, he was like a kid who just won a bag of candy.. excited as heck. Whooping and hollering.. last pike he caught was when he was 6 years old. He wanted to take it home and I wasn't gonna argue.. I love fresh pike. While attempting to show off my expert pike handling skills I received a nice battle scar courtesy of Mr. Toothy. As the evening wore on we kept casting with only a couple more tiny bass to show for our efforts.. but we were very much satisfied with the way things turned out after toughing out some pretty severe thunderstorms. I'd have to say that was the most successful trip me and Marc have ever had together. In previous trips, all we ever raised was suckers and tiny smallmouth. lol Marc was very excited to have caught a respectable pike. The fishing mixed with the great conversation and the thought of the thunderstorm will remain in our memory for quite some time no doubt. Hard to beat an evening on the water like that!

For anyone wishing to check out Ryan's carp spot, DO NOT ask him to draw you a map! He'll send you somewhere else! LOL Nice to see you finally landed some there buddy, beauties!

Launch out of St Williams and fish the flats in 5 - 7 feet of water. You'll never get out to the weedlines with your electric. lol Good news is, the bass are right in the weedbeds. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits early will rise them out, after that get your flippin' arms ready and pitch to pockets in the weeds. You'll probably get a bunch just beating the bank. Good luck!
-
I'll let you know when I get back from fishin this evening, lol

From the 6 or 7 pm's I got from locals asking about it, I'd say yeah those guys probably read the report. I don't just post on one site by the way.

Like I said, I don't care who the heck fishes that spot.. it's no secret. I can't believe I'm usually the only one there. But if somebody posted a spot on the internet like that and I visited and saw the poster there, I'd surely go say hello - and probably thank them for posting. That's what a fishing report is for is it not? But I guess not everyone believes in etiquette. And yeah, she's a fishing hottie. Loves to fish everyday. Shares the same screwed up sense of humour as me. She's a catch!

I remember fishing the Toronto Harbourfront while my parents went to the Ex.. right alongside the highway and catching smallmouth. Never saw another angler the whole time I was there. Veer from spots that "look good" and just fish empty spots. You're on shore. Fish are near shore.. you are within casting distance.
