  1. True enough! His name shall be Raymond and he will fall to the Dollarama jerkbait eventually.. lol Good luck to you too on catching your big one!
  2. Interesting. Thanks for the info! I think I've seen these landlocked fish before in upper parts of Big Creek. Always wondered why I was having bows nail a spinner in August. lol
  3. Good stuff! I've had them grab my walleye there.. just about every trip actually. lol usually when I put down the grub and start tossing the big baits. Never had one hit a smallie though. Quite a thrill eh? Looks like you were fishing the south bay. Great walleye area.
  4. I used to see smiley face dude out fishing all the time when I was in college. Those late night fishing trips involving extra shrooms on the pizza.. he was always sittin there on shore catching leprechauns and zebras...
  5. So I'm out fishing browns as usual today.. which I might add was the worst day yet. I put in a good 4 hours of casting baits and walking river trying to avoid the dams.. lost one brown about 12 inches first cast.. after that a carp smashed my spinner. Which I promptly lost as it was the scrappiest carp ever. He kept jumping and jumping.. this carp thought he was a bass from start to finish. Anywho, eventually after walking and pounding the holes with only one more lost trout to show for my efforts I gave in and hit up a dam hoping for some quick fish. Nope, not here either. Cold front must have put them off pretty good. So I decided to toss a little bigger jerkbait than I usually fish.. though I'm sure it's plenty small enough to catch trout still. I'm tossing it at a logjam FOREVER when suddenly a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE brown chases it from the jam and gives up pretty much at my feet. Man oh man, I've seen some decent browns in here but this one was at least 2 feet long.. and beautiful colors on it too. I got a great view of it chasing the bait then going back home. I spent the majority of the rest of my day at that spot dying for another shot at that fish.. but to no avail. Guess I know where he lives now anyway. Defeated in trout fishing I hit up the carp for about an hour (always keep a can o' corn handy) and even THEY would not co-operate. Pounded the dam a couple more times before heading home and set hook into a FISH finally.. which turned out to be a little largemouth. That's the 2nd largemouth I've seen come out of there.. pretty rare catch around these parts. So being satisfied that I at least caught a fish I headed home.. visions of Omega Brown still etched in my memory.
  6. Steelhead jump all these dams and waterfalls in the fall and spring to do their thing.. Just wondering. Let's say these fish magically made it over like 5 dams.. I know they don't die after spawning like salmon. Do they actually jettison themselves back over the dam and into the lake or do they become residents of the river after spawning? Or is it a toss up? Always wondered.
  7. Right now it's enthusiasm.. 2 months - ADDICTION
  8. Good stuff! I'd hardly say dragging tubes for smallies is a dated tactic though!
  9. I've risen muskoka bass from as deep as 20 feet on buzzbaits, Jitterbugs and spooks. A little chop often makes things better. Wait until you feel the fish to set the hook. Tough to train yourself to do but far, far less missed fish that way!
  10. I use the uni-knot for everything. Only knot I've ever tied that has never slipped.
  11. Nice dude! I'm totally jealous. Dying to trade the trout rods in for the musky gear!
  12. Good stuff boys. Nailed some hawgs! Hawgs got nailed! lol
  13. Why is it that posts like this are getting more replies than actual fishing reports?
  14. Nice pike! Too bad it was from that location, but good on ya for getting rid of it. Though I think if there's pike swimming around in Balsam that size it may be too late to kill them off. Bet it was a great tasting fish though. I love fresh pike.
  15. Nice!
  16. Nice work man.. and thank you for blurring out everything. Now people will not only never find your spot, but they won't be crowding you for tips when they see you down there. Good strategy! But really, congrats. That's a beast.
  17. Awesome man. She is such a cute kid. Congrats to both of you. I'm jealous.
  18. When I was 16 I spent 278 days of the year out in my boat fishing. Age is not necessarily any proof of fishing experience.
  19. If the jigs, bouncers and cranks aren't working, don't be afraid to try tossing jerkbaits at docks. Twitch, Twitch.. SMACK! It's a tough spot to figure out. Those walleye are moody and change their habits I swear on a daily basis.
  20. What's extraordinary about white perch? I remember hating how annoying they were when I fished Cootes Paradise in Hamilton as a kid. And still find them a nuisance when I fish yellow perch here in the spring.
  21. I totally missed it.
  22. White perch, not bad eating if ya eat 'em fresh.
  23. Headed out with the GF yesterday morning in search of browns as per usual.. a few casts and I was into a really good one, probably 3-4lbs but lost it at my feet as I was too high up to horse it up and not quick enough to jump into the water and grab it before it shook the hook. Soon enough after I put the magic flower behind my ear and instantly was into another brown. This one too was a decent one but was dwarfed by the one I lost. Caught on a Blue Fox spinner, silver blade yellow fur. Hit a couple spots after that real quick but the little lady wasn't feeling too good so we headed home. Back at 'er today.
  24. Good stuff! Looks like a great morning for sure.
  25. Yeesh! And I thought the carp around here were the ugliest around.. that one takes the cake! Nice fish though, must have been fun on that setup!
