It's always been hit and miss. You can and often do hit perch anywhere, but big ones take more searching. When you find them, they're usually all in one group in one little area. I'm content looking down one hole all day and hoping they'll come to me. Lol

I'm surprised you never hear of the odd walleye caught through the ice there. The bay is pretty much all perch grounds end to end though, similar to cooks but shallower.

Spots are pushing 10" now and the least i've heard of anyone finding is 6"... The huts are out today! Finally we're getting a full season (knock on wood) of ice on the bay!!

There is one called "my fishing companion" as well where you can mark spots and even include a picture of the spot and a description. It is more of a journal but I've used it many times as a GPS locator for old spots as well. Get the full version or just get the navionics.. much more in depth but I was too cheap for that! Lol

This a great tale of an emphatic franchise manager. It has nothing to do with the CTC corporation, make no mistake. However I couldn't possibly convey enough respect for said franchise manager. Definitely a class act.

If a politician said it, not too many would support it. Their jobs are very similar. The public pays his paycheck, and everyone else attached to the show. It's an HT Tip-Down rod holder, its supposed to rocket the rod into the little lock if there's a fish on.. it usually tips right over if it gets a strike that hard but indeed it is nice not to have to bend over!

Now, don't get me wrong. The ice isn't safe. We had to walk and spud our way around this particular place to find 4". Most places were not even walkable. That's why backgrounds are blurred. I don't want anyone assuming the whole place is safe from my post and having an accident. BUT.... when we found safe ice - we found some beautiful kickoff pike! I'm sure the time is very near that we can confidently walk wherever we feel like, but that time is not now!! If you're going out anywhere in southwestern ontario bring a spud and use it OFTEN. You can be on 4" next step could be 1".. I even likely won't risk it again until I hear the place has a good 3-4" all the way across. It was sketchy. Lol Stay safe and happy early ice season!

Oh for sure, dont get me wrong. I said 'less' as in certainly less than our Norfolk OPP ... All I see is abuse of power from those guys. I think the Hamilton cops just keep busier and don't have as much time to stray away for kicks. I dunno. All I hear is what I hear, I'm no cop and couldn't imagine dealing with the things they do on a daily basis. I'm glad there's some strong enough to stay true to their duties.

My brother in law is a Hamilton cop, and a damn good one. They have a great police force and it has far less corruption than many other cities. Glad to see them getting some credit! I'm sure Pete will be glad to know about this too.

I'm just packing my stuff up and headed ice fishing. Bring a spud, and look for smaller waterbodies that are out of the wind. Or just wait til you see people out on the hammer. Lol

I've always watched my dad and grandpa fillet fish, pretty well from birth! I feel it's important to learn the process of how food gets to the table in its bare basic form. Something all humans should be practicing to shift their perceptions, IMO!

Seriously, everyone that complains its cold today at work is gonna see this! Lol
