Those are colored up dropbacks! I've only ever seen silver bullets actually making the jump around here. That's awesome!

Yeah, you're right. My favourite part was when the OP came back and better explained his question, then thanked everyone for the advice. Oh wait, he didn't. It's almost like it was a troll post! But nobody trolls these days, our bad.

After my last union contract negotiations, they eliminated OT and our vacations have never been paid (for part time anyway), also dropped our christmas party and christmas bonus. So tell me what the hell is my union so useful for?
-
Well that's certainly not at all what it's about but I am glad to say I've been a part of this community a long time..

You must really like my posts, you know me so well. I haven't the faintest clue who you are or what you're talking about.

"Food Safety Violation" Richard was witnessed without a hairnet on in the dept. Three steps inside the dept, and I only WENT in the prep area to put a hairnet on!!

It was his favourite hook, he was goin' for it

My problem is with a manager (non-union) , targetting me, based on a personal grudge, and the lack of help from my union to stop it. And I'm sorry, I had literally shaved my head the night before, and was told to put on a hairnet. I did, and still got suspended. That is completely personal and ridiculous harassment. Add to mention witness letters and pictures have been sent of such manager to union/HR, not but the next day, cutting behind my counter with no hairnet or headgear on. It's a little more than $100. Lol
-
The $100 is for the lost work that day. However through union regulation if I take the suspension I'm a step and a half from termination. The call was Bull and I refuse to take it backward so he can fire me two weeks later and satisfy himself.

Thanks everyone. After talking to a former steward , I was told much the same as here. Failure to represent is my case. Here comes several weeks of fighting for $100 bucks back, oh and driving to milton to do it.
-
Hypothetically, if a union flat out ignores it's employees' grievances, letters about harassment and pictures of violations, that person could sue for their union dues back, could they not? I am paying for a service that apparently isn't working for me. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue?

I'm checked a half dozen times a year in this area. They don't often bother with anything but poaching trout and salmon, or overharvesting perch. Call in HN about someone spearing or snagging trout, they'll show up. Call about someone raping bass off beds, they ask you to take pictures and never show up to look at them. -
Make no mistake, some days minnows are NOT best for lake erie perch. There's two rods me and my dad had on board for erie perch fishing since I was 10, and I've never needed anything else since. Indeed, as described, the dropshot rig is the first rod. We used 3 hooks when I was younger and the bottom always had a salted minnow. My dad firmly believed this kept small ones off the rig. I can't see why, but I also can't argue with his repeatedly good results. The second rod was rigged and still is to this day, with a small kastmaster jigging spoon. My dad swore by gold, i swear by silver with blue. We both always got jumbos but my color always seemed to get more incidental smallie and drum hits. I love, love, love hooking a big drum (sheephead) while spoon-perchin. What a thrill after yanking up so many yellow logs. That's my walk down memory lane, hope it helps.

I wasn't sure if they would squeeze in the trap or not, but your advice is much appreciated! I just so happen to have some #16 hooks i never thought i'd have a use for. Never thought, i guess gulp maggots would likely slay them. I'll try the breadcrumbs for attracting them, if it works real well I'll try throwing them over my umbrella net and lifting quick, if not hook & bobbering them sounds like an entertaining venture until the season opens.

The ponds I fish dont open up til the 2nd saturday in may for pike, but they are full of golden shiners which I'm sure are the main diet of the pike there. I see hoardes of them at ice out in the shallows and catch the odd one on a piece of worm below a float. I'd like to find a way to trap, or attract/net them to use for pike fishing later on. Other frozen deadbaits work, but matching the hatch is best. Anybody got a way to specifically trap or target golden shiners? Maybe bread crumbs?

Every fish has a different retinal rod/cone system, and based on water ph/clarity, every species' eye sees a certain color variance in the spectrum more dominantly. Walleye - see orange best, varies based on ph/clarity how bright, also depth plays a role Pike - see red best as they are upward feeders, red actually is more visible to them than flourescents, white or black. Bass - blue. A completely unpopular color for fishing, but bass see it a mile away Apparently in a flowing river situation, flourescents always are most visible. Now that we know whats most visible it should be easy, right? Well, heck no. This is fishing. There's more to it than finding what they see best. Long story short: colour matters.

What do you do when you come across a bad car crash? - NF
Rich replied to NAW's topic in General Discussion
I AM trained in first aid and CPR. The training entails keeping everyone calm, and calling paramedics. CPR is to only be used in a very worst case scenario, to keep a victim alive long enough until proper care arrives. -
Wow, even with the poorest first post ever, he still gets a lot of info. Nice!

100% agree, you dont know what the heck happened to the people in an accident, you are not trained. You could be tampering with things, hindering and hurting people by trying to help, and not realize it. It wasn't "everything's fine" that he had to listen to, it was "EMS is on the way". That should be, and was, enough. -
It's got fish in it, like any other part of a great lake. Actually, its got all kinds. Everywhere I go, I follow a rule. If it looks fishy, it is, to some degree. Go try it, and let us know how you did.

To go .. or not to go ... that is the question

You'll never catch anythig if you don't give er!! -
Haha, I have a friend who fishes port hope regularly, he says you're better off with flies anyway. That's off topic, but I dont see what the big deal is. As for me, I stick to Erie tribs as there are 3 open areas within 20 min of home, year round. And for the record, we got 3 more, eric got one 12 pounder, floating pink worms. I only hooked one on roe, and it was my stinky "spring roe"
