Thanks everyone It was the most fun I've had ith perch in a long time

Hello So last year I stumbled upon a spring perch spot by accident fishing carp... Only problem was it was at the end of the spring bite when I found it and a few days later upon my return the bite had pretty well ended... So for the past year this spot has been bouncing around in the back of my mind waiting for the right conditions this year to try again Managed to get out Sunday by boat to keep options open in that great weather we had and although it was slow and steady we had fun and had plenty of perch for supper... Lucky we took the boat because they let the water down about a foot and the perch moved out far enough from shore that we couldn't have casted that far... We caught almost all our fish on slip floats in a small shallow bay with soft plastic minnow baits... I used the yamaminnow for the first time and did well...

Awesome Can't wait to get a big gold piggy

I've read the glass is more scratch resistant but easier to break the lense if dropped... For me that means in a few years my glass lenses will most likely be clearer the if I had got plastic... That was my train of thought

We have a canoe race here annually on a trib during the walleye spawn... And the heaviest spawning area is at a small dam where a lot of canoes flip over and the participant have to walk around on the spawning grounds... Been going on a long time -
I saw them at JBs booth this weekend... They look ok... Like stated a bit small but I think they'd still catch plenty of fish
-
No just wondering why you said custom... That's why I was thinking you wanted full enclosure... There's plenty of Bimini tops out there that you just buy the right width and hook it up...
-
Thinking the same thing...
-
Hsousa Are you looking for a full enclosure or just a roof top?

You talking full enclosure or just a roof?

Just got my crappie gear organized... I've got 22 creeks and canals in an 8.5 mile stretch of shoreline marked out on my navionics to explore... I really wanna find a spot of my own by boat so I can go and relax and enjoy myself... Take the kids without worrying about guys cursing and littering in front if them... I've got a buddy that wants to explore with me next weekend...

When trees start to bud your good to go pound... You can get some earlier but that's when they really get going for me... Worm picking as soon as it warms up next

We'll the new venue was garbage... Only 3 fishing booths... Very disappointed and I won't be back... They've ruined what I felt was the best outdoors show in this area... We were so dissatisfied we made the trip to Lebaron so the boys could at least buy a little more... That made things worse cause the few things we bought at the show were at lebarons for A LOT less... My $30 musky lure was $22 at lebarons... My buddy's spoons he bought were $10-11 at the show and $7.50 at lebarons.... I understand we should have known our prices better and passed but still .... Live and learn

Anyone going today? We will be there when the doors open at 9am hopefully... I'm up too early and killing time till the boys show up... Lol This is the new show replacing the valley show in Carp which was a great show... Lots of booths you can actually buy stuff unlike the "bigger" shows... There seams to be something for everyone... I even bought a dog there one year.. Lol

Not enough If you make a mistake and cross a boundary line by accident or miscounted by 1-2 perch big deal... Your still alright in my books... But the examples given were obviously people abusing a resource... Throw the book at em... The other poachers might think twice...

Hey don't get me wrong... I understand you can find cheaper products that sometimes out perform some high end... In my opinion my Berkley sunglasses lenses did better for me than my cousins oakleys... Far better glare reduction and clearer... He was shocked... But sometimes it's nice to treat yourself to something nice that you feel is a good product... They feel nice on my head and the wife says they look really good... It's like buying name brand clothing... It doesn't last longer but it usually looks a bit better...

Well I made a descision I went with Maui Jim's The highest rated pair on the cabelas website also looked like they were everything I was looking for personally Local optomotrist that is a Maui dealer ordered the pair I "thought" I wanted with no obligation to buy... Thought that was cool of them Went in today to check em out and they were perfect so I wore them out the front door... Maui Jim - World Cup frames with glass bronze lenses Time will tell about the quality but first impression is that they're sweet!
-
Thanks for all the feedback everyone... I'm leaning towards Maui Jim's at this point... Local optomotrist is getting in the ones I liked the look of online with the glass lenses I wanted to see how they fit... No obligation to buy... So that is great... Like anything in life some will always go cheap and others will appreciate the higher quality and SERVICE associated with brand name products... To each their own... But after trying on some Maui Jim's today there is nobody in the world that can convince me they aren't a better product then the $20 cheepos... Are they 15x better to reflect the price? Do they block more uv rays? Maybe not but they are a better product IMO
-
I don't need to spend the extra money.... But I don't think Berkley glasses and Maui Jim's can even be compared... Like an ugly stick and a gloomis After reading some of the links however I'm going to do a lot more research... I really like the customer service story with the broken glasses....

Tips for catching carp in the grand River?
mike rousseau replied to Garcia96's topic in General Discussion
You can also back of the drag on a normal reel -
Hello everyone I know this has been discussed but hey... It's still cold out and what else do we have to do? Lol I'm looking for some decent quality polorized sunglasses... I usually use walmart cheapos for $25-$30 but I was told cheap sunglasses are bad cause you fully open your eyes but the lenses don't protect your eyes from the sun So now I'm looking for a higher quality pair of sunglasses Looking at max $300 range I like the feel of oakleys but I find the straight arms hit my hat behind my ears and then they lift at the front and push hard on my ears... I'm gunna check out costas and Maui Jim's Something I won't know by trying them in a shop is what lenses are best for clear water? Any input is appreciated I had some Oakley "Valve" sunglasses on yesterday and they felt great other then the arms touching my hat

Pumping increased the chances of giving the fish slack... Also your constantly changing the pressure on the hook which can cause it to tear a bigger hole and not only increase chances of losing a fish but increase the damage done to the fish... Also I personally find with large fish if they feel a pressure decrease (when you drop your tip to reel) they understand it as an opportunity to get away and they run and head shake and go crazy again increasing the chance of losing your fish... I agree if your drag is slipping you'll have to rod pump but if that's the case your reel isn't up to the job in my opinion... Most of my reels I use for any species are capable of straightening the hooks with their drag... So there is never a situation where I need to rod pump... Me lure will fail before my reel... Now I'm talking freshwater here... A 500lb tuna may be different...
