  1. I occasionally like to keep the odd walleye or perch and was wondering the best way to get them tasting best. I usually keep them in the livewell and drain out and bring them home but I realize this gets the meat "red" when they stress out etc. Would it be best to just use a cooler (or the in the dry livewell) and put them on ice? I read about bleeding them out as well; wasn't sure the best option to do this. Or maybe get a couple of jugs of ice and keep them in ice water in the livewell? (this might be better for bleeding out and flushing the livewell with fresh water? What do you think would be best?
  2. Dan was nice enough to help me get my trailer tires balanced last night (and discovered my new rims aren't running true, time to return them ) Excellent service and great guy....highly recommended! Looking forward to seeing the sleeper car all finished up Dan
  3. I had read a study where they were going to put aerators in Guelph lake to combat this. All of the reservoirs get it down here not sure what one you're at but its pretty typical.
  4. Natural lake or reservoir? It can occur naturally but nutrient loading makes it much worse.
  5. Blame the farm runoff, golf courses and untreated sewage its usually from excess nitrates and phosphorus ie fertilizer.
  6. I believe this declaration form is needed http://www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/marinesafety/declaration-eng.pdf taken from this site: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-paperwork-paperwork_boat_licence-3211.htm#a11
  7. Thanks guys I'll get it load tested to be sure. Seems to be fine so far.
  8. I just notice that my starter battery is going on 6yrs. I checked the fluid yesterday and it was slightly low so I topped it up with distilled water. I was wondering if I'm on borrowed time though and should be looking at getting a new battery as its quite old. What do you guys think?
  9. yup he's right.
  10. Optima work great, can take a beating and don't spill. As long as you have a good charger they last a very long time.
  11. princess auto? or canada bearing perhaps?
  12. Hey does anyone know if there is a stowmaster dealer somewhere in southwestern ontario?
  13. Is this method the best way to bleed them out? Than would you throw them back in the livewell or just put them on ice? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZQDdSheKk4
  14. Interesting idea! That would be much easier than buying cubes all the time. Don't forget to check your livewell drains as well! Fish can get in front of the livewell top drain and cause the livewell to overflow. Some livewells have a bottom drain as well that should be operated if you leave the pump circulating to avoid this.
  15. You could get a piece of wood to go across the entire bench and use stainless fasteners to screw it down. Then use the Plus or Well nuts under the wood to fasten the seat. Carpet or vinyl the wood afterwards.
  16. Those aren't led though
  17. Just reviving an old thread....Is anyone else carrying the LED lights these days other than PA or CTC? PA's are around $79 for LED's. They have the regulars on for $20 this week they say submersible but LED seems the way to go.
  18. cool thanks for the info!
  19. So that said, in London there are 2-3 bait dealers that are all in the VHS zone. So if one wants to go to Pittock (for example) which is in the VHS protected zone, can you still use that bait there, or is it best to check if it is certified. As to your #3 point I thought there is a fine for having minnows in/out of the zone?
  20. Down here we have a VHS zone where you are not allowed to transfer minnows into certain zones. I was wondering what you can do to cover yourself when buying from a baitshop. Should they have records of where they were harvested or "VHS free" certification or something? Or maybe get a receipt? http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/2ColumnSubPage/239471.html
  21. I think the Compre or a Quantum PT Tour ($120ish) would be a good choice. Other than that the St. Croix Avid at $160 but you're getting up there. I agree I'm not a big fan of the lower non-USA made St Croix's there is definitely a feel (and looks) difference.
  22. Guys CTEK makes a 7 amp charger designed for larger batteries. If your charging 110AH 31 series batteries or bigger you're pushing it to its absolute limit being a 3.3A charger on the 3300. Recommended range I think is 1.2 to 120AH on their US site. I have no issues charging my batteries, but I have the small deep cycles somewhere around 55AH. If I charge the really big batteries it gets really warm and takes a very long time. Also as per manual for the 3 settings (motorcycle to Optima symbol): Mode 14.4V/0.8A This mode is normally used for batteries <14Ah. Mode 14.4V/3.3A Normal setting for wet batteries, maintenance free and for most Gel batteries. Some gel batteries prefer a slightly lower voltage. Please consult the battery manufacturer when in doubt. Mode 14.7V/3.3A This setting is recommended for a battery at temperatures <41°F. It is also recommended for many AGM batteries like Optima, Maxxima and Odysses. Consult your battery manufacturer when in doubt.
  23. To see all of that on camera last night was disgusting. Not a highlight to be Canadian. Some on the news kept mentioning bars and booze but I suspect a few of them were on much more than a few drinks...
  24. Yup mine too. Weaker the battery more hot it gets I think it works off resistance some way also make sure connections are clean and tight
  25. I've always used the $12 manual reset breakers from NAPA they look like the top picture and never had any issue. You can get them in various amp ratings.
