Beer and wine sales in Ontario NF well kinda!
Big Cliff replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
Not to mention the amount of money that the casinos dump into the government coffers. I wonder how many homes and lives have been ruined because of them. We currently work 7 out of the 12 months in a year now just to pay taxes. When will they be happy, when we just give them everything? -
I used coarse sea salt but perhaps I didn't wash them well enough, I just rinsed them under the tap. I will try it again next time I do a steak but will wash them better.
-
Tried the salt thing last night, coated the steak in coarse salt for about an hour then rinced it off and BBQd it. Steak was very tender but way too salty for even my liking and I like salt.

I already have a cabnet full of cook books, I could always use one more and $20.00 would only be a SMALL dent in what I have already paid!

Beer and wine sales in Ontario NF well kinda!

What I want to know is why I can buy a bottle of Crown Royal in the US for $12.00 that cost me $52.00 here in Canada? Why can I buy a 24 of beer in the US for $18.00 that cost me $59.00 here in Canada? Don't you dare tell me it is because of the wonderful health care system we have here in Canada, we already pay a health care tax! Like I said, if Whinnie the Poo is involved you can be sure she is getting something out of it for her and she doesn't care what it costs you and I! -

While I am all for it, you can bet that if Whinnie the Poo is involved you might as well just bend over right now! I wonder who is making a huge contribution to someone in her family or party? -
What we need is someone to collect all these recipies and put them together to make an OFC cook book

Well, lets see: Who on here runs salmon charters on Lake O and has been a contributor to the "Fishing for Tyler" over the years? I think they would be my first consideration!

And how do you think (the Keg or whoever) ages their meat for 28 days? I haven't tried the "salt" thing but I do know it dries meat out, I use it all the time for making jerky/fish/bacon for just that reason but I am willing to give it a shot.

Wow, some great ideas and information here! Lots more testing to do from the sound of it. Oh and Ernie, whitefish please, going to hot smoke it!
-
Wow, I will be giving that one a try!!!!! Thanks!

Driving out our road the other day, there is a car in the ditch on the left side of the road pointing toward us so I stopped. The young lady told me her phone rang so she pulled off the road to do the right thing and answer it, her wheel got caught on the sholder and pulled her into the ditch. Ok, so you pull over on the left side of the road to answer your phone?????? I could have pulled her out easily but I thought "first, there is no way you pulled over to answer your phone, you were either texting or talking while driving and second you just lied to me about it"! I just smiled and said "you lie, call a tow truck" and I drove away.

Here is a recipe I found through the link that Ralph posted that is very similar to the one I have been using but I have only been using about1/4 cup of the vinegar and I just use white, not white wine vinegar. I am going to try adding the extra vinegar on the next batch and see if that helps to preserve the heat better. Ingredients Nutrition Yields4cupsUnitsUS 1⁄2 lb horseradish root, peeled 1 1⁄4 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon sugar 2 cups white wine vinegar Directions Finely shred the horseradish root. It may make your eyes water like onions do! Add remaining ingredients to bowl and mix well. Funnel into clean 1/2 pint jars and cover with caps. Will keep in refrigerator for one year.

Got it and your name is on the list as soon as the ground thaws enough to dig it. Just dig some up, cut the root into pieces and replant the pieces, it's just likje crab grass, a small piece of root will grow a new plant in no time.
-
Ok for anyone that wants some, I have some horseradish root and tops you can have. If you have never grown it, it is like crab grass, one small piece and you will have a patch of it in no time. Now I like my horseradish, it is simple to make and you can make it as hot as you like! Recipe is simple: Some horseradish root (I peel mine but I would imagine the commercial guys just wash it) a bit of water and a food processor to make a slury. Water root, some sugar to cut the sour, some salt to taste and when it is hot enough, vinegar to stop the enzimes. Now the one problem I haven't been able to solve yet is that it looses heat very quickly after it is made. (if anyone knows the answer, please share.)What you couldn't eat last week is mild today. I am thinking I might try more vinegar to preserve the heat but if you are growing it, you just make it whenever you want! Email me: [email protected] and we'll get some to you!

Target Canada was a joke from day one! They opened stores with empty shelves and the stock they did have wasn't priced to sell. Staff weren't given decent hours and it's little wonder the customer service was poor from day one. They came to Canada with a big ass attitude and got handed their ass in a bag, serves them right.

All I can say is when you have kids and pets running around the area remember DDT. It was thought to be safe once too.

Now that the warmer weather is on it's way I'm going to be starting to make my home made bacon again in about another week, it is so much better than anything you can buy in the store. You have no idea how much better it is without all the nitrates, the one I am doing is all natural cured then smoked. Still have a bit of work to do on perfecting the smoking, I did the last batch with hickory and it was good but just a little strong on the smoke side. Going to try maple and apple as well. My butcher likes it so much he has asked me to do some more for him (he gives me a really good deal on the pork bellies though). I am going to up size my smoker slightly this year, has anyone got a bar fridge that doesn't work anymore (or that they want to get rid of). I am also working on a new model cold smoke generator, the one I have now works well but I know I can make it better! At this rate I need to live another 70 years just to get all these projects done LOL.

I didn't say it was my friend

Just be aware that if you do buy anything from Target and it is defective even right out of the box too bad for you! A friend bought an item, got it home, found out when she opened the box that it was defective and took it right back. All she wanted was an exchange but the answer was no. She asked to speak to the manager and got the same answer. Too bad all sales are final!

Ok, it's early but I must be missing something here? "I've never been to a Target store in Canada and ain't goin back." LOL If you've never been you can't go back!

OK, first of all you have to learn to play the games! You rent out part of of your house, that qualifies you for a whole lot of "LEGITIMITE" expenses. Then you start a business; register it so it is a corporation, yes it will cost you a few bucks but it is tax deductable. Legally there is supposed to be some expectation of a profit down the road but lots of businesses fail. Your business could be a guiding service, you could be trying to start a business doing home renovations, as a writer for sports magazines..... the list is endless but all legal! Now the one problem that does come into play is if you are drawing EI and they ask "are you self employed" ? NEVER lie! If you do and you get caught you will forever be on the "List". Tell them that you do own a business but you are not working at it and that you are ready willing and able to take any job in your field. You may have to report any income (less expenses) as other income but you should be fine (well unless your business did earn a lot of money then you wouldn't have needed EI in the first place)! Lastly, if you are on EI you have a lot of time on your hands, DO something with it, Ei isn't a free ride, it is there to help people that find themselves out of work and to help get them through until they can find work. I have over the years been out of a job, I have never been out of work, it's a choice!

Ok, 50X20 = 1000 sq ft , not that big! The prickly kind are probably thistles, wear gloves, cut the root, pull it out. Then over seed with Scott’s or some other fast growing dense grass seed. Some weeds are good, they will hold the moisture in hot bright days where many grasses would die (actually just become dormant). I never water my lawn and I live right on a lake, it might go brown in a really hot dry summer but first rain and it bounces right back. IMHO watering your lawn does more harm than good, I don’t fertilize it either, just mulch the grass when I cut it and I don’t worry about weeds (unless it’s thistles). My neighbor hates me because I think dandelions are pretty yellow flowers that God gave me to make good wine, he thinks they are weeds. Dumb ass, likes the wine though!
