  1. The Beaverton harbour is blown wide open but there is still plenty of ice out on the lake and even the beach was better than I expected, no problems at all. Because of the short notice I couldn't find a fishing partner for today but that's ok, I had plenty of company anyway. I had anticipated that with the warm front coming in the perch would be active, boy did I call that one right! It started slow, not a bite for the first 1/2 hour then all H broke loose. First fish was a solid 12+" and from there the action just got better, by 10:30 I had already landed 37 fish. Sinker and his beautiful bride Lori were out on the white fish grounds and we started texting, they weren't having much luck, mine was continuing and I was getting some really nice jumbos. A texted photo and an update and Sinker and Lori headed in to where I was. Some smiles, filtered try again please chat, and they decided to set up a short distance away. Well my luck continued and theirs improved, plenty of fish and some really nice keepers, I only brought home 13 (not a lucky number for the last one I decided to keep LOL). Lori came over for a visit about 3:30, we had a wonderful chat, she is one smart well grounded young lady, I really enjoyed her company. I think Sinker might have been getting jealous because of all the laughing (or perhaps he just knows better than to trust this old man with a pretty young lady LOL) , next thinh we know, he's a knocking (I didn't want to let him in but Lori said we'd better, the door isn't that thick) I think she said they figured they had caught about 100 at that point, not sure how many they kept, I was kind of enamored by the company at that point. Anyway I digress, total count for me was 107, the people I talked to in the other huts around me had similar success with really good counts and and some really nice fish. All in all another fantastic day of fishing Simco
  2. Newmarket to Beaverton, allow about 1 hour. We would be coming off the ice about 5:00 pm ish. And would enjoy fishing with you too!
  3. No problem Dan, it's short notice!
  4. I am going out with Tim Hale, Jim has to work so there is one seat available, cost $60.00/person includes transportation from/to shore, heated hut, parking, and bait. Bring your own lunch/beverages, only thing I ask is no smoking in the hut. I will bring a pot to make tea, coffee, soup or whatever. Depart Tim's parking lot 7:30 am With this warm front moving in the bite should be really good. If you are interested let me know asap, only one seat, first come first serve.
  5. We are away until about noon on Sunday. Text me if you are coming
  6. I never drive and drink my friend, (might hit a bump and spill something LOL) Seriously though 0 tolerance for this old man, didn't use to be that way but I've grown older and wiser) The coffee sure was good though!
  7. Add the next line if you do. Only one line, lets see if we can finish it. The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
  8. Albert thank you so much for the pails and the goodies, I had no idea you were behind all those beautiful brochures. I really enjoyed the chance to sit and talk with you and would love to get you out perch fishing with me anytime! Hope all goes well with your wife, sounds like you are on the right track. If you ever need ANYTHING, just let me know (I know where you live ) A promise made is a debt unpaid! Big Cliff
  9. Really cool!!!!! Aren't there a lot of beaches that don't allow shark fishing from shore? I know that many of the piers don't allow it.
  10. Just let me know when you want to pick them up. They are in my car right now but not in my way. If you need a hand taping trees just let me know, have drill just need to know what else is required.
  11. Albert, give me a shout, I have today off and could come get those pails, I'm sure the sap must be running like crazy by now and Sinker could probably use them. 705-928-8899
  12. I would deal with ANYONE other than Bell, for anything!!!!!!!! Only when they think they are going to loose you as a costumer do they treat you like one!
  13. Funny? Well perhaps but that was theft, doesn't matter that the guy was doing something illegal. The rules for flying drones are getting stricter all the time and this guy broke a few of them. I don't think posting this on You Tube with your own picture was very smart, now the fisherman knows who did it. Got to be careful what you post on social media, it can come back to haunt you very easily!
  14. If you need a truck to haul the hut back just let me know, I can borrow one from work, (I drive for Marbert Transport here in Lindsay and we have a few pickups in our fleet). Anything I can do to help, just ask!
  15. Well, I can't offer much in the way of help but my thoughts and prayers will be with you through this journey.
  16. Lived in the Kawarthas for 16 years now, I have a Nissan Rogue FWD, wife has a Toyota Matrix FWD, a good set of snow tires on both and we've never had any trouble. As for Subaru, had a 1998, sold it in 2013 that thing was incredible, like Dan said keep up with your regular maint.
  17. http://www.torontosun.com/2017/02/17/teen-dies-after-snowmobile-goes-through-ice Please be careful out there this family day weekend. There are so many places that are safe but plenty that aren't. IF you do happen to hit open water on a sled PIN THE THROTTLE NOT THE BRAKES. Keep your weight off the skis go straight or turn slowly. I have run 25-30 feet of open water on 12 hp Elans without going down (never tried going further). I'm not saying this will save you but I can guarantee if you hit the brakes you WILL GO DOWN!
  18. I have never had any dealings with Floyd Hales operation but I have been using Tim Hales services for a couple of years now and haven't a single bad thing to say about him or his staff. Glad you got out there and got some fishing in, 11 lbs of perch fillets is quite a haul .
  19. When we fished it in the past we would head straight out from the launch and typically fished in around the 30' mark. That said however without a flasher or fish finder you can miss a lot of fish in that lake. I remember one time we were fishing and not catching, then we started marking fish about 12-14' down, we quickly adjusted our depth and started catching some nice crappie. Sorry to hear you didn't do so well but better to be fishing than sitting at home watching fishing.
  20. Landing is easy, everyone that flies can do it, some just manage to do it so you can take off again
  21. Joey was one very special young lady and I will never forget that beautiful smile of hers! I am so sorry for your loss Paul, my condolences to you and the rest of the family. She will be missed by many and remembered by all that knew her.
  22. Oh there is an offer only a fool would decline, Sinker is an awesome fisherman and a down right nice young man! Put it together and you will learn more in a day than you could ever learn in a lifetime otherwise.
  23. I was on the surface, that water is way too cold for me to jump in but we were fishing in 38'ow
  24. No, they were a snelled bait holder style hook with barbs on the shank. I wish I'd kept the package but it and those hooks are long gone.
  25. OMG. Beans where do you keep coming up with these pictures lol! Gosh we had some fun times didn't we? It's really nice that so many of us have sort of stayed in touch after all these years.
