  1. so far i have only tried it with lake trout. i dont see it working well with walleye and panfish. possibly whitefish it may work well. what you are counting on is the fish to come swimming by and just swallow the bait and start running, doesnt usually happen that way and a deadstick seems to work better cause they can play with the bait longer before getting hooked. at the local tackle shop here they are sold out also selling over 100 of them in the sault area. poor ppl and darn i wish i was the guy that invented it
  2. i've heard of the laker thing where they can burp but im not 100% on it. pike seem to take a beating and swim off like a bullet again plus i've never caught a pike in 50ft of water before, 30feet max. i've fished when there is 4feet of ice and you need to put an extention on the ice auger. and i've release them back down the hole. sometimes fish have a hard time finding their way down the hole. also i remember one year there an air pocket in the ice where we were fishing and we'd release a fish and it would get stuck in the ice and probably never found its way back down. i dont think you have to much to worry about. also i find using a single hook is better cause when you set the hook all the pressure is going to that one hook and not dispensed to 3hooks and its usually easier getting the hook out with out doing surgery.
  3. ok so back about a month ago i was looking around here and places on different types of slammer tip ups. and someone on here send me this link http://www.automaticicefisherman.com/ i really liked the setup and it was something you could dial in within minutes and not have to rebuild your slammer for different rods and what not. over the xmas break my buddy was out in edmonton and he stopped at the fishing hole and called me and asked if i needed anything. i told him to look around for one of these automatic fisherman. He asked an employee at the store and he said they were sold out and they cant keep them on the shelf. My buddy went after a few days later before he left and they had a few at $50 and he liked the idea so much he just bought it so we can share it haha. So we fished yesterday and today for lake trout and im truely disapointed with it. I find lakers like to grab it and swim with it a long ways then stop and eat the bait. we got lots of hits and it went off many times and we did not catch a single fish on it. our traditional ways seem to work the bestfor letting lakers run and will stick with it. i find this product would only be good for pike which i have not tried yet. It certainly works great as a sweet rod holder haha!!
  4. http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=177...mp;fullscreen=1 this is a wild video and just thought i'd share it. i hope the link works!
  5. i tried photobucket and they changed it around since last time i was on there and i cant seem to upload any pictures dont matter on what type of format it is. this are getting to advanced for me and im only 21 grown up in the computer world haha! i'll keep playing with it and see i can i get them to upload.
  6. when i set the hook i say "FRIEND" then followed by "a new friend for us in the boat"
  7. so we started out the morning heading up to crooked lakes north of the sault.today i rolled 200000km over on the old dodge dakota of mine and she is still going strong. me and my buddy nate met up with my buddy peter and 2 of his buddys. We sleded in and the trail was good this time. My buddy nate drilled his first hole and iced 2 lakers before i was even able to drill myself a hole. we fished from 9-11 and we caught around 30 lakers, they were just hammering and shallowing our minnows. there was tons of small little guys. at 11 we decided to sled over to a different lake called jarvis in hopes of icing bigger lakers. my buddy nate took my sled to the lake cause he just had to try out my rmk 700.so i take his old beater of a sled a 94indy 440fan pulling the sleigh and of course i'm the last guy in the pack and i took a little different route then the rest which lead me to end up doing some open water which was extremely scary such of the such under powered sled i was riding hahaha.so we get there and we got there drilled holes and right off the bat again 2 fish one being the biggest one of the day a mighty 3lbs haha. after that there was zero action for the rest of the day but we had fun sledding around and building fires and such. in crooked lakes the lakers are different, we call them greys. they arent dark and they have no white spots, just grey. has anyone seen this anywhere else? we jump over to the next lake and they are black with spots, a true looking lake trout. anyways i hope you enjoyed my report, im heading out again tomorrow, going for big lakers, not lakers the size of specks hahaha. and i definitly cant seem to upload the pictures for some reason, i've put pics on here before saved under the exact same thing yet it tells me wrong format hmmm very annoying
  8. every spring i net them in the rivers around here in the sault. me and my buddy both get a 5gallon bucket each in about 20min if you hit it at the right time. just gut them and chop the head off and batter and there you are, dont taste anything like sardines. sooo good.
  9. when the guy took it apart he probably wrecked gaskets and other things are you basically have to destory to take apart and they dont wanna buy/order parts to put back a cooked sled for no reason. you gotta take it apart anyway, take it that way and find a backyard mechanic for cheap or a buddy that knows a thing or to about sleds. i suggest going to a site like harcoresledder, take pics and ppl will tell you wants wrong and what to do and they can pretty well walk you through each step on getting it back together. also there are piles of used parts for sale on there. you can pm me as to what you need and i can even find you all the parts needed.
  10. take the sled back with all the old parts. keep some tow rope with you and always go with a buddy. run the thing till it no longer can move and get towed home. strip it down and sell the parts and you'll get atleast $2000 for the parts enough to put into a decent sled.
  11. ya i dont wanna be right on the big lake. i wanna be back in the bush like my buddys camp there, just beside a speck pond. anything against that?
  12. i find the vmc hooks are alrite but the new sureset hooks on the new xraps are crap. the larger hook bends when you catch a fish and if you try to bend it back it just snaps off. i would like to find a place were i can buy the same feathered hooks on the xraps, the ones i found at canadian tire just arent the same.
  13. it definitly is a slice of paradise. i would love to buy a little chuck of crown land up there and build a small camp, is it possible to buy crown land?
  14. i guess not to many like my fishing adventures lol
  15. holy! do you not work? you pretty much live on the ice! im jealous, give the fish a break and give them a bit to recoop haha good job out there
  16. its always an awesome time up there. we went up 5-6times this year and this was the only time we actually took pictures! there is the big lake down the road with pike, lake trout, and white fish then theres ponds all over with specks. their property back there has 2 private speck ponds on it. every time we go we catch 50 plus pike in a day there. and when the specks are biting its a feast! i hope to make it up there atleast once this winter and will probably post it. also i'm definitly in for a couple trips next year!
  17. more, i wish i knew how to resize the pics!
  18. i was looking through photos from this past summer to post in the new years winter camp and i came across my buddy chris' camp pics from this summer. just thought i'd post them. some are of skinny dippin, fish, the camps, lakes, burning down double hole outhouses, and such hahaha! hope you enjoy!
  19. heres more pics and one of a rainbow on the same lake!
  20. im sorry you guys came up short in the fish department! maybe next time if you go. i would have gone out for the day with ya guys to put you on fish. i thought i explained it pretty good, by the background it doesnt look like you guys were in the right spot..... there is lots of fish in there!! heres some pics from the same lake in the summer to hopefully make you want to go back sometime.
  21. im terrified of loosing things down the hole. i move prettywell everything completely away. my one buddy last year went to go clean the hole and accidently kicked a nice frozen walleye down the hole and i now keep them by the sled and out of the way to haha.
  22. nice specks! good job for only being out there a few hours!
  23. those were some nice lakers!! and thats wild that a nice that sie was attacked and beaten like that. imagine catching the fish that did the damage
