Hi Lew, Thanks, I'll tell my friend to look into it to see if there are similar problems in the circuit boards. Glen, that's not it, sometimes the remote works fine and then suddenly it stops. No beeps, can't turn it on/off, can't change directions, etc. I agree that the motor would be much better if there was an indicator light to tell you that it's on (or off), and also a thrust indicator to tell you how much power you're using, rather than listening to the hum to guess how high you've got it. Keep at it and you'll be getting good distance and accuracy too. One more tip, spool up your baitcaster with some cheap mono line until you are confident in your casting, it'll save you money when you get the birdsnests that can't be untangled and you have to cut the knot out. Mike

Hi all, Just back from a week-long stay at Lost Lake Lodge near Gowganda, booked on a recommendation of Lew's. Had a great time, met an OFC member there (bronzeback). Will post a report with some pics when I get a chance. I'm asking a question for a friend, who got a new Princecraft boat this spring. He's been having problems with the trolling motor that comes with it. It's a wireless Motor Guide, 55 lb thrust. Sometimes the motor would respond to the control, sometimes not. The trolling battery was fully charged and the battery for the remote control panel was brand-new, and we changed it too just in case the battery was a dud. My buddy has brought the motor back to the dealer twice and they can't figure out what's going on. They say they test it and it runs fine for them. I think my friend should just insist on a brand-new unit, preferably a cable steer, but in the meantime, does anybody have any experience with the wireless remotes and has any idea what to check? #2 for me. I keep only a few fish every year, usually a trout or walleye caught on my annual week-long trip (coming up really soon!). I'm not good at cleaning fish so I have almost never kept perch for the table, even though it is my favourite kind of fish. Mike

Welcome to the board... One more tip, when you are first learning to cast a baitcaster, there's no point in investing in good (expensive) line, b/c you will get birdsnests and sometimes will have to cut line out. I put on heavier mono at the beginning as I found it was easier to learn how to cast with it, and then switched to thinner lines with experience (but I still birdsnest sometimes!) The only other thing I can recommend is to practice. I put on a heavy jig and cut off the hook, and then took it to a local park in the early spring to practice with it. I got some pretty good looks but it meant I was better prepared when I was actually on the water. I wasn't doing any fishing in Feb or March anyway so it did give me something fishing related to do as well. Mike

Bly, You said the line was breaking near or maybe at the hook eye? I've never used fireline, but I use fluorocarbon for leaders and I know that you have to make sure the line is nice and wet before closing it, else the friction weakens the line and makes it more likely to break at the knot. Mike
