When I'm purposely chasing toothy critters I use titanium leaders. http://www.finn-tasticcanada.com/home.html I use flouro when chasing trout and usually end up with a bunch of pike as they hang together in the fall. Haven't had any bite offs as I'm usually trolling big spoons and they get caught in the jaw and not deep where their teeth could hit the leader.

I use 30# braid connected to a 6 foot long piece of 40# flouro leader. I make the connection using an FG knot.

Yup, grease is thickening due to the cold. Happens with all reels up here unless you remove the factory grease and use something lighter. I clean out the factory grease and relube with hot sauce for flawless cold weather use.

HMMMM, why is that? Have had a Merc on my boat since '91. Re-powered in 2013 and put on another because the first was so good to me. Haven't heard any issues with the Zuke's but have heard some with the Yammies in the salt (exhaust manifold corrosion issues). I think pretty much all motors are on a level playing field these days.

Correct, glass is quite a bit heavier so it gives you a smoother ride. Aluminium on the other hand being lighter you need less motor for the same kind of performance, is easier on gas and towing. And the big one for me is the ability to beach it in shield country without chewing the crap out of the bottom.

Got to admit I like the looks of those Crestliner boats like the one Charlie Wray runs. Same with the Princecraft the Fishin' Canada guys run. My boat has been a really good one as it's now 26 years old. It's a Fisher and the best thing about it is the lack of wood. Only the transom core is wood. The floor is all carpeted aluminum. I agree with the sentiment that an 18 footer will be better for a family of 4. A walk through with a standup cover will also keep the fam dry and happy. Have fun with your purchase.

One winter at our place in Grand Valley both of my parents saw a large cat in our back yard. I asked them to describe it to me and it was definitely a cougar. Wish they thought of taking a pic.

Read an article last week about how $70 Mil is missing out of the MNR fund. Looks like it may have been used for things other than it's intended purpose. You think this won't happen with the Libs new carbon tax? Remember when they brought in the fishing licenses and how they said all funds generated form sales of them would go to the MNR? Also remember that they didn't tell us all existing funding was being stripped so they could use it elsewhere. The net result was the MNR funding decreased because the license fees were less than the original funding. We all though the license fees were a great thing because the MNR would have way more money to protect the resource, stocking etc. Yeah, we were all taken. And now there's that missing $70,000,000.
