  1. For all you fellas using Roundup, please do not apply anywhere near streams, ponds, shoreline. The chemical is notorious for its adverse effects on amphibians and aquatic life. Put simple, it can hurt the fishing.
  2. They might be using Glyphos. A decent systemic herbicide with "less" harm to aquatic life.
  3. Boston were definitely playing a better game while the Habs gave away the 1st period.
  4. I just love it when teams from the original 6 go head to head in the playoffs. Will the Habs go for 3, or will the Bruins find some redemption?
  5. Exactly. Without strong manufactures, Canada becomes nothing more than a third world economic pawn. Kind of like 19th century India and China under British control.
  6. Gramoxone is still an approved commercial herbicide in agricultural use. I never reccommend any product to the public that requires certification. It still is only a contact herbicide. For systematic eradication you need heavier herbicides. None of those are available to the general public.
  7. Little tip for those prone to getting stuck by their jigs. Thin layers of foam or styro to embed the tips
  8. You cannot bring wood from the GTA outside the quarantine zone folks. A lot of that crate and skid wood from Asia is untreated, and could spread more problems around your favourite getaway. My neice spent 6 months in Toronto doing inspections for Asian longhorn beetle. Amazing how many live specimens she would find in a week.
  9. Roundup was supposed to have been banned for public and commercial use by now. An organic alternative. Pick a hot sunny day and spray the patches with vinegar. Burns the plants, and other unwanted weeds to a crisp ( does not work too well in the shade). Unfortunately it does not work on the root network. Most retail weed killers also fail in that regards.
  10. That has just darkened and saddened my day. I had a few very uplifting conversations with John this winter, when I really needed an emotional lift. His positive attitude and encouragement were just the ticket. He never let on he was not well. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.
  11. I have always found his story to be a deep source of inspiration. Truly a testament to the resourcefulness and adaptability of man. Nice to be reminded that life is a work in progress.
  12. Just got home from the Hamilton BASS tackle swap. Was a great way to spend a lousy day. A gtreat day spent yakking with good folk. Very happy to run into vinnimon and loonietoon. Even happier to make the acquaintance of Jose. Great to see you all.
  13. Optimum fuel consumption is at 105-110 kph. for the van.
  14. Until you get rewarded with "2 years less a day"
  15. Kind of impossible to budget, or save money, when prices spiral out of control in a mere 6 months, Fuel up 25%, and food will very soon follow suit. I see a nation with fewer people paying taxes and a lot more crime. A lot of people will have little other choice.
  16. The big oil companies also control the supply to the small retailers, so you can't hurt the speculators buying from the small guy. Notice how fuel prices are not an issue in this election. Who owns who???
  17. Happy Birthday, young'un
  18. I do like using shorter tubes ( 2.5" ) in areas with a lot of fishing pressure. Sometimes you need to downsize, sometimes go big.
  19. Sounds like a great day on the water.
  20. $0.60 price per pot you brew. $1.60 a cup for takeout. it's all about choice now ain't it?
  21. To start with, you should consider dethatching and aerating the lawn. Keeping things simple, get a DIY fertilizer program from your garden centre. Garden Gallery, Sheridans. Scotts, all have recommended programs and timetables for lawn maintenace through the season. Each component works on different elements of the lawn during the season. Lawn starter, weed and feed, root developer, winter feed, etc... As for the grass growing past the border. Grass spreads by sending out root colonies. You can never eliminate it, only control. Reccomendations depend upon local spray regulations. There are lots of name brand contact weed killers. If they are banned in your area, the controls include digging them out, bleach, vinegar. I could not make more specific suggestions without actually seeing the condition of the sod.
  22. Long enough. The withdrawal was horrible. The entire family is now on diets as I took to some serious baking to compensate.
  23. Just outside of Lunenberg is the Ovens. It is a nature park and campground. The caves are phenomenal, wit htours available when weather permits. An o.k. beach and panning for gold. Thing is you are in the midst of the south shore. Must stop in to the Fisheries Museum in Lunenberg. Don't know if your dates there would coincide with the dorymen's races. A few decent charter boats in Lunenberg that run you offshore for mackerel, pollock and cod. If you can, get off the 100 highways wherever possible and follow the old coast highway, else you see very little of the coast and Nova Scotia's rich maritime character. In Shelbourne the old boat shop was still hand producing the traditional dory. (they still took orders 5 years back) I could go on and write volumes about Scotia. I'm biased. Spent part of my childhood there with my aunt and uncle, and posted out there.
  24. Hall's Harbour is a known, overpriced, lobster stop out Fundy way. Don't waste your time in Eastern passage. If you're looking for fresh, cook your own, The are lots of small outports with available lobster. Parkers Cove comes to mind just before you get to Annapolis.
