  1. I'm sure it will be a busy season hauling up vehicles. was on a small lake again today 3-5 inches of good solid black ice. this cold weather is tightening up the lakes quite well as long as the heavy snow stays off of them for a bit
  2. Hahaha, i submitted a smb and a whitefish to my captain but it seems to have never been posted.
  3. I was already out on the hard stuff on tuesday, 4" of solid black, will be back out again tomorrow. just my guess, is south shore will have 6 inches of ice 2km out from link's beach on jan 1st.
  4. the fold out bed idea, i was just joking because there were some similar in the shack i had sold you. As for the back lakes, maybe one or two but there are a few that i vowed to the people that taught/showed/took me into them i would never say a word. that shack is comin along quite well. in your most recent pics the one where the 3rd wall is erect it looks as though the roof on your garage is actually on the shack.
  5. Where did you get such a clever idea Blair?
  6. Nip is still open, was down at fish bay today and it was a light drizzle with ice maybe 50yds out only a couple inches. small lakes were froze enough for me to get out on monday on 4 inches of solid black, but todays plus 3 and drizzly conditions may have done them in too.
  7. Congrats on both of those fish. thank goodness for a net.
  8. It's not a super nice sled by any means, trailering is out of the question for me i'd much rather have the weight in my box, plus it rarely comes out over the winter months, as i'm always out on it. its an 86 citation 250, but has always been tippy, i have to hold my smoke in the middle of my mouth or it tips. this year i have put a 3" widening kit on it plus 8" skins for a little more stability. currently with a box liner i have 38" inside and need 41 to fit the sled between. and yes blair you;re right. option B has been the cause of many lost windshields. and even worse some entire cab and windshields together
  9. I was hoping that someone out there who owns an s-10 zr2 4x4 in the 98-04 range(without) a bed liner could possibly give me some dimensions inside the wheel wells. I'm curious as to how much i'm losing with my box liner. my sled wont fit in with the new ski skins and widener kit anymore. Thanks in advance, Matt.
  10. great post darsky. love seeing the late season bass. i was out here in north bay on saturday chaing largemouth, managed 8 in 5 hours fishing alone all 2-4 lbs. the usual slow december bass bite, but you guys seemed to have done awesome. congrats. the boat got winterized yesterday and i'm headed out on the hardwater tomorrow now.
  11. I'm liking this thread quite a bit. the few shacks i have built over the years and sold eventually were 2x4 ripped into 2x2 with mahogony underlay used for sheathing on 24" centre, no structural issues. your 2x3 and 1/4" ply will be more than suffice. just as a heads up, make sure that your windows are set at a comfortable level both when standing up as well as sitting down in the shack. nothing worse than having to stand up beside your lazy boy in the shack to watch your outside lines.
  12. I'm going to go with yes in the Mattawa area. i have caught them in a couplesmall rivers that lead into the ottawa around temiskaming. (all natural) none bigger than 12" but none the less only a 5 mile swim from where i was to the ottawa.

  14. that's the no bare hook fishing sing correct Geoff? you're supposed to bait hooks in that area?
  15. there's so many out there now. the dinger works well in the 8 inch lots of action but the 6 and 4's are pretty bland on the sink. the stik o worms work well and have decent action in a 6 inch and come in every colour under the sun. northland bait co. makes one as well but limited colours and they're pretty stiff, not much action. the wave worm tiki and bamboo sticks are great and have a lot of action in 4-8 inch sizes. strike king zero's are the best you can get for durability, they are difficult to hook but a 6 inch lure will stretch out to almost 3 feet without breaking. they have a bunch of action take a beating and catch fish. the yamamoto senko works great and will take 5 out 10 votes on all these baits. only thing against them is the cost really. i prefer to use them when fish on windy days and in moving water, (river's near creek flows...) as they sink faster due to the salt and dont drift too far away from landing location.
  16. money hound for sure! they work great don't get me wrong! I have used 2/0-5/0 Extra Wide Gap Gamakatsu hooks on them and find the 3/0 suits them best (4") size. but it seems like 2-3 fish or 2-3 hooking attempts and they are ripped down the centre and need to be flipped and used upside down. but once they rip open the inner material takes on water and the action goes for a dump. i think you should try them as they do work well and regardless of the cost of using them i have a dozen at a time in my arsenal and one is always rigged on one of my rods in a tourney.
  17. here are 2 of my fav speck pools in the spring between these two pools we caught these beauties here. 5 biggest came out of the second pic other 3 came from teh first pic.
  18. Happy Birthday Wayne I hope you enjoy today as much as tomorrow.
  19. You may be on the wrong forum then Bud!
  20. here are the ones form a few weeks back.
  21. A good friend of mine buys/fixes houses and flips them quickly and has been making a living like this for a few years now. one of his tricks is to throw on a fresh pot of very strong coffee shortly before the people come look at it for this exact reason it works like a charm
  22. it doesnt appear as though there was any damage around the eye. a cyst would make sense it was floating inside the eyeball membrane it wasnt attached to anything, seemed to be "floating" around, and he seems to see fine he had a sunfish in his throat and my 8 inch chub in his gullet too. Thanks Jaques!
  23. yeah she's a Beaut ehg, this picture was taken about 45minutes after she was caught too.
  24. Oh well my appologies. i thought it was later then that. like mid 70's what kind of plastics industry did you get into?
  25. it's a beauty looking specky for sure the guy I had gone in with and myself were into this lake back in Feb and caught 4. i'll find pics. the eye thing i'm not sure never seen it before. We will have to plan an outing or two for next winter Wayne. I'm not a real big fan of leaving sled tracks into my trout lakes RC. thats the largest reason for the hiking. oh yea the total on the pike was 7 by the way.
