  1. in what way?
  2. Thank you!
  3. Anyone know what time the game is on? Can't find it on the tv guide and not finding it on google either.
  4. carcostcanada -- you can go to the website, sign up ($50), and get invoice pricing on whatever it is you want to buy. Also shows manufacturer discounts and promotions. Think you can do up to 10 models of vehicles for 50 bucks. btw - check out the honda ridgeline. Its a great truck.
  5. If you're not fishing for whitefish, take the hooks out of the side. As far as i can tell those hooks are for whitefish picking it up off the bottom.
  6. So between 2 people you can bring home 600 fish, including 60 over 7 inches. Doesn't seem so bad to me.
  7. Restoule is awesome but its not great for pike or trout (deep at that time of year). Lots of walleye, but if you have 6 hrs there are better places. For a cool *honeymoon* i'd get a tent, a canoe, and find some back lake somewhere....or do a mini route wtih a few days camping to enjoy yourselves without having to work. You might check out these routes....http://www.myccr.com......or try booth lake via crotch in algonquin. Its one of the most beautiful lakes in Algonquin and one of the few places there where you'll find norhtern pike. Its actually a bit of a disaster, ecologically speaking. Someone dumped pike ina lake just outside the park (in madawaska) and htey've been migrating through the system there having their fill of lake trout. Beautiful area though. I also second the temagami suggestion. Not sure about the fishign there....but the scenery is truly beautiful.
  8. Love us (or rather, don't hate us) because we're polite. We say zed instead of zee. Its not a lot, but it probably made no sense to anyone not in Canada or the US (or someone familiar with our contrasts). It was a brilliant poem, and one i really enjoy re-reading (thanks for posting Rick!)....just wasn't the right forum for it in the opening ceremonies, IMO. Just think the opening ceremonies should have been about the olympics and entertaining our guests....not about "how great we canadians are". I guarantee that poem resonated with no one outside Canada.
  9. I love it, but there's a bit of "we're better than americans" tone to it. The Olympic opening ceremonies was not the right venue for it, IMO. By comparison the thing on Canada that NBC did prior to the openign ceremonies was remarkably good (and on point for context)
  10. Mountain Equipment Coop. There's one in burlington as well. Not unlike REI in the US. If you're in Niagara you might consider driving across the border on a rainy day and coming back wearing one from REI :-).
  11. I picked up some of the zipcuts. One of those simple but really clever things that makes you go "why didn`t i think of that?".
  12. Sorry - didn't mean to derail the thread. Just that sportspals are so different from other canoes.
  13. I advise not doing this in a canoe. You want your weight and balance LOW in the center of the boat. Sitting on a seat like that is asking for trouble in anything other than a sportspal (wide, flat, ridged, with floatation bars on the side), and even then kind of risky...
  14. just tried the kangaroo sausauge and it was awesome.
  15. Probably should have posted my "fishing show comments" in this thread. I personally liked the show. When i was a kid i used to look forward to the sportsman show. Would come home with a giant bag of brochures and catalogues and would pour over them for hours/days. Especially the lebaron catalogue...it was like a bible for me when i was a kid. We likely all have memories like that....and our parents probably thought similarly of the show as we feel today. A bunch of retailers and outfitters selling their stuff, and us paying to be sold to. Not really a *deal*. But, its a good outing to see some new stuff...and i learned a bunch from some of the people i met there. Definitely worth 3 hrs of my weekend.
  16. I wondered after the fact. Thanks again for the advice. Visit my in-laws cottage once or twice a summer and usually see a bunch of carp. Tried for them once with a mixture of cornmeal and crab-apple jellly rolled up into balls. (obviously) didn't know what i was doing.... Will try again this summer armed with what you taught me today.
  17. Just returned from the fishing show, and wanted to share a few comments..... 1 - thank you TJ for the free ticket. Much appreciated. 2 - learned a bunch about carp fishing from a guy who i believe may have been hammercarp? Is your name Lorne? If so, i was the bald guy in the dark grey sweater. Thanks for the advice...i'm going to try it out this summer. 3 - was able to pick up a manta glide bait at JB's (?). I have not seen mantas anywhere else....that alone was worth the trip. 4 - of the *new gear* being sold at the show, the only one that looked really useful to me was a line cutter that you afix to your rod instead of using a knife/scissors/nail-cutters - zip cut pro. Looked pretty good . I picked up 3 of them. 5 - also picked up some kangaroo and camel sausage....only at shows like this will you see that stuff. Can't wait to try iit. 6 - Pete Maina is quite the character. Very entertaining. Had really hoped to catch Jim Saric as well, but timing didn't work out. Maybe next year.
  18. For the 1-2 trips i do a year I get along fine with a cheap PVC suit....just make sure it has some breathing flaps.
  19. ice fishing and early spring, late fall can be different -- but in the warmer months early morning is definitely where its at. I often pack up and go home at 9am.
  20. Kid - aim as high as you can. You'll be glad you did later in life.
  21. Have (and use) loads of crankbaits. I just haven't fished with topwaters (unless you call floating jerk baits topwaters) or inline doubles.
  22. when would you throw a surface bait vs. an unweighted suick or bobbie bait?
  23. Is it because topwater hits are more fun, or because you're getting more of them? (or, better fish?)
  24. Frabill power catcher -- is it a foldable? What i've been doing is net when i'm on my own (but it needs replacing) and cradle when i'm with a buddy (net takes up too much space). Worried that one day with the cradle one of us is going to take a hook in the face/arms. Prop vs. WTG vs Creeper....are there situations where each is better than teh other? If not, which is your fave? Zara Spook is my favourite bass bait (by far). Get a lot of misses on them though. Will check out your buddy's baits online. For topraider....regular or super? As for rod/reels....not sure i feel like pulling in double 10s (even with a great reel, i hear its a lot of pull).....was thinking of double 8's, or indianas instead of colorados. If that makes sense.
  25. Prefer marabou or silicon instead? Other than the DCGs....which ones do you guys recommend?
