  1. Nice collage you got there...looks like a good fall for you. Thanks for shareing,
  2. Congrats on the PB! We probobly passed right by you....We were fishing the Cement plant and nailed a beauty right as the sun went down on the 27th. And had been Fishing close to the ferry right before that, and nailed a huge Pike.... That was a great day to be on the water fer sure!
  3. See thats just it... So much contadicting evidence going in both directions. Last nights news says the 10th warmest winters in Canada are spread out since the 40's. And Canada's leading meteroligist David Philips is hesitant to say Globlal warming is or is not a naturally occuring event? While the Gore video says globaly the temps have been increasing siginificantly over the last 14 years....who do I believe. Gore or Philips LOL... There are a Gazillion studies that say its pollution...but as of lately there are a ton of studies saying its a natural cycle as well. Looking out my window into my back yard over the past 30 years I have no reason to be concerned. But I guess I'll watch the video and see what I can take from it...can't hurt right
  4. I'm going to have to see this video... I'm not sold on the Global warning theory as it stands just yet. But then again I have not seen the documentary either. I have to wonder if some of the hype is not related to the mass media coverage we have these days? 100 years ago we didn't know about severe storms and water temps around the globe, and more importantly there were very few weather stations monitoring the day to day weather... Currently there are so many monitoring stations taking in information by the second...its bound to skew the numbers a bit when comparing the data over the last 50 years...my question would be how much is fact and how much is skewed numbers? For exsample... This winter is not the warmest on record, infact thus far its shapeing up to be the 4rth warmest (according to last nights CTV news) And the next 10 warmest before that were spread out in the 40's 70's and 80's No real diffinitive pattern. But in light of the recent Warm winter...Global warming is a very popular topic. Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying its not happening. I'm just unsure that it isn't a bit exsaturated and if this isn't more of a long term trend (like 100+ years) I think there has been little work done, or published to disprove climate change over longer periods of time in not a Naturally occuring proccess? In my own limited experience I've seen little to suggest something iminant is occuring...I guess living in Southern Ontario could be skewing that veiw being our weather is a best very unpredictable. I've seen Green Christmas's, and snowy May 24 weekends, 30degrees in september, and July's were the temp didn't break 21 degrees... No mind you I think we still need to approach pollution with the same level of aggression...no doubt I'm just not so sure Global warming is not to some degree a naturally occuring event. I'll give the video a once over and see if it changes my tune a bit
  5. Thanks for posting the details BigSwede, And for the advice Superdad...it was bang on! I said it before but I'll say it again bud... That picture of the Pike does NOT do it any justice...it was a tank! (Round and Solid from head to tail) Definatley a great last kick at the can....can't beleive the conditions for December 27-28th??? No ice, and calm waters to boot! I am definately a Believer in Late fall Quinte lore at this point I wish we had a bit more time to work the water, but as you said that's what next year is for. We'll do it again I'm sure Cheers, ps. I think the Bad Boat luck was my fault as it seems my Bad luck continues.... My brand new 7 day old CPU crapped out last night(I'm at work now) And I just ran outta gas on my way to work this morning! Gotta shake this mojo some how before the clock strikes midnight
  6. Yup... every Christmas Eve, And Christmas Day for the past 7years But like you Lew...I knew the shift walking into the job. As a Chef I unfortunately work all the big dates... New years eve, Valentines day, Easter Sunday, Mothers day, Fathers day, etc... But the only one that hurts is Christmas Day.... Especially now that I have Kids. But thats just life as a Chef.
  7. Thats the best idea...don't ruin the meat for a few old school boys 130-135 is industry/restaurant standard for Med Rare But don't forget the meat does not stop cooking just cause you took it out of the oven.... I'd say 140 is solid meduim but if you pull it from the oven at 140 and rest the meat for 15-30miuntes you run the risk of hitting 145-150 and getting med well. The meat will continue to rise for a good 15 minutes to a half hour before it planes out... depends on the thickness/leaness of the cut.
  8. What kind of oven are you useing? Conventional or Convectional? And are you cooking with the bone and cap on? And do you know the cap width by chance? Generaly a bone on quarter inch netted cap will cook to Medium rare in 2-2.5hours a convectional oven especialy a smaller sizer roast. But bare in mind If your cooking with out the bone or cap on you will decreas cooking time significantly...probobly by a half hour or more. And a conventional oven will tend to take longer being there is no air flow... I would recomend 30 minutes at 400 degrees, then drop your oven temperature to 325 and continue for and additional hour and a half then get your meat thermometer... Check the internal temp(through the cap to the bone) after the hour and a half has gone by.... your shooting for 130 degrees (medium rare) so if after an hour your there or with in 5 degree's... Pull it out and let it rest for a good 15 minutes or so.(don't cut into it when she's fresh out of the oven...you'll loose all your juice and dry it out fast) I recomend a ton of Montreal Steak spice rubbed under the cap, then scor the outside of the cap in big X's(helps the fat break down and flavor the meat) Cook in the Pan rib side down, and put a little water/beer or redwine mix(half and half) in the bottom of the pan....about 2-3cups to keep the Humidity in the oven high, and increase the arroma (this will keep your yeild high) Plus if your making some Jus after....its a great flavor boost. Some Carrots, and onions in the pan never hurt either. Just be sure to check that internal temp if your ever in question.... Prime rib is reeeeely well marbled and can be quite variable in Fat content, therefore the fat can render off quicker then expected sometimes and act as a catilist....hence cooking your meat much faster then expected. But a 2 hour cook time for a small roast should be good....I can't see it taking more then 2.5-3max Good luck, Oh and don't forget to stay hydrated...I recomend a beer for the Chef every half to one hour
  9. Now thats a fish....His instincs are bang on I'd say!
  10. Nice job...gota luv the weather. Especialy when its this nice, and the fish are that on! Thanks for shareing,
  11. Nice to see you stil getting out there, this weather is crazy but I'll take it! Luv the wawa shot...
  12. I'm looking forward to gettong my girls into it as wellI have a 2 years old, and a 3 month old) But the Wife says I Can't "Force" it on them LOL I got her to go a few times, but she's not that into it....maybe off a dock or in a boat. But I doubt I'll ever get her in a canoe or back in the Woods ever again LOL
  13. Yuppers... I had a pool growing up, and spent many of summer vacations swimming in Huron at my Granparents Cottage. I second the notion that those who can't swim should either learn or stay away from water? If I couldn't I think I'd be afraid to be any were near deep water?
  14. Thats an interesting read... So if they can scientificly prove it was no more then 40 pounds why has it not been revoked? Especialy if the fish is proven to have been augmented by 10 inches? Is there further contadticting evidence not mentioned in this article? I'm sure this is just a peice of the puzzel But I can't quite understand what would keep it qualified as the record if the allogations are not rebuted?
  15. wow, I didn't notice the line first time LOL... I to would rather see a natural back ground but hey...if its gonna give yer spot away then fine. But if its just trees and rocks leave the pic as is. On a side note, What I would like to see is some more detail... What body of water, what baits, colours, time of day, weather conditions, water temps, flow, clarity etc... Let not be just a brag board right...share the knowlage. P.s. Nice Bow...the bergs look nice as well
  16. LOL Big Swede... I've broken 2 in my life.... 2 years ago and they were with in 10 minutes of each other. While Fishing some heavy reeds I got stuck....it was about 4 feet from the boat side, and I was useing 30lb PP so I leaned on the rod a bit to swing the boat over a bit closer to pull the reed out.(somthing I had done 1000's of times before) and the rod snapped at the base? I was heartbroken...I loved that rod. I had used it for the last 6-7years, and had a lotta good times with it...some big fish to boot. So anyway... Big Swede being the swell guy he is lent me his Spare. Well wouldn't you know it I got stuck on a reed again, and leaned on the rod a bit to feel out how solid the Snag was, and snap!!! All hear behind me is Big Swede gasping "Guy....did you just break my rod" LOL.... That was the 2nd time and hopfully the last. I bought him a new rod and we're Freinds again
  17. Aside from a wack of Lures, and a new BPS 7' extra Heavy rod, specificly for trolling in search of toothy G-bay bigguns, I didn't buy much equipment this year. Unfortunatly I bought it November and only used the rod for one weekend thus far. It did get a lot of use and It served its purpose well, allthough its yet to be tested by a big o'll fish LOL... next year It'll see some more action. I bought a used Tent trailer for $300...can't beat that Specificly for Fall Fishing trips, Maybe Lakair this year if time permits A used Kerosine Furnace for the tent trailer for $40 That thing kept us alive on my steel head trip back in October...snow, wind and sub zero temps brrrrrr. And a used 20' Travel trailer I have parked on the Bruce I picked up for Free...needed bout $300 roof repair and a little elbow grease, but she's done, and ready for next year. Guess I'm thrifty?....My wife would say cheap...but I prefer Thrifty But I did pick up a New water filter for my Anual Algonquin trip this year http://www.epinions.com/content_81176333956 Well worth the $69 I paid at columbia Sports here in town...Its compact, light, easy to use and the water is much better tasting with out the iodine, not to mention much fastet then boiling. I highly Recommend the Pur Hiker series....great investment fer sure
  18. Maybe Canadian Tire services them? A little out of the ordinary but being they carry them...who knows?
  19. Crazy... I once saw huron come up to swallow the entire beach, and stop just shy of laKe shore Blvd. In Sauble. About 11 years ago...2 days of high winds had the lake whipped into a frenzie but 2 days later it was completely calm. Crazy to see that much power on display
  20. Wow..I knew they were quick but not that quick? Lucky Guy(or Dum?)
  21. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... You got a nack for the camera bud! That 2nd pic is perfect... I would have loved to seen that pose my self this year....say 2nd week of November
  22. Float fer sure in that area.... just enough lead to be off bottom, and bounce. Don't be afraid to switch up to a Pinky, Fly's, cleo's, spinners, and rapala's if the roe isn't working. When its on..its on But when its off....it can be slow
  23. Ah I see, your were on the old board...my bad then didn't recognize the handle I'd go in at Dennys Dam in Southampton then and walk down drifting the runs. I've found the chute(first big bend) good this time of year but you will probobly have to find room to squeeze in...lotta guys go after work to wind down. If the water is to muddy(which it often can be) Make the treck to The Sauble river...tends to be 90% more clear but can be hit and miss. Good luck,
  24. Well....your first post shouldn't be a request for spots. Just have a quick read over the rules sticky and post a quick little intro first. No harm done...just a freidly gesture we like to see What kind of equipment you bringing? Do you have wadders?
