  1. Sheepieville. Bass are not the main target in Hamilton Harbour
  2. The fine 4 years ago was $100 for no license. I called the MNR office for my area to get up to date info but they were not there. Feel free to call them at 519-773-9241 (for GTA area)but you will probably have to leave a message like I did. I will report this post to them as well since it's fairly bold IMO to post about poaching on an open website and since I legally fish both Montsberg and Bronte I get irritated at the large numbers of poachers to be found at both these sites. It's doubly irritating when they play amateur lawyer to justify their poaching when called on it.
  3. Poaching is definitively fishing/hunting while trespassing. The modern usage of the word has been expanded to include fishing out of season, retaining fish beyond a set legal possession limit, not having or carrying a fishing license (not having you fishing license with you is actually a bigger fine than not having a fishing license altogether), or using illegal bait. Old Bass and his ilk were poaching in the most traditional sense of the word ie. fishing while trespassing on private CPR property. In my experience poachers usually ignore or are ignorant of all fishing regs. Montsberg is one place where this is very apparent. Lots of no speak the English there too.
  4. To Old Bass Guy. Assuming you were fishing by the metal tube that joins both parts of Montsberg where the train passes over, good work as YOU WERE POACHING. The fine there, because of the danger of passing trains, is over $500 per person per offense. Both the MNR and the CP Police enforce the law because this is probably the most abused as well as dangerous poaching spot in the GTA (Bronte Creek being another massively abused spot by hack "anglers"). When I fish Montsberg, from my kickboat, the train tracks are covered with poachers even though trespassing signs are clearly there and even when I point this fact out to these goobers most just continue to fish. Up until recently the game warden used to have a milk run between Montsbergs's train tracks and the bridge at Valens (legal to fish off that Valens bridge IF you have a fishing license AND obey limits/seasons but of course many of these anglers don't bother with regs,)The game wardens usually got the poachers for trespass, no licence and/or limit season violations. The Full Monty of regulation enforcement. The CP cops even set up road blocks to nail poachers at both ends of the tracks as the poachers usually park illegally as well (to save the parking fee at Montsberg Raptor Center or the Dam side). Bottom line, learn the regs where you fish because you deserve a $500 fine and confiscation of fishing gear for your weekend. That would be real "frustration".
  5. The Sea Eagles are the ticket for inflatables. That Sea Eagle 285 is about the same size as my Hobbie Float Cat and would work well but the Sea Eagle Fold Cat is really the bomb (but more $$$$) Standing up while casting is a huge bonus and something I can't do with my Hobbie (and I wish I could stand for flipping) I've seen the Sea Eagle product and it really is well made. By the way wait till you catch a salmon casting a Bass rod in that 285. That is thrilling fishing.
  6. That's good to know Frankie. It used to be a fortune to ship from their location to here. Thanks
  7. Be carefull to check out the shipping costs to Canada on that site as they can be expensive. They do have terrific specials especially in the off season though.
  8. My bet is that garbage, noise, illegal drinking are all in the mix. Truth is where anglers, particularly shore anglers, go then these issues pop up. I don't know why slobs like to fish but they do.
  9. I used to be a conservative but now I'm really torn. Problem is the Libs have a tradition of being outright criminals and the NDP are beyond stupid. We really need the Greens to develop some political smarts to give a reasonable alternative to gangsters and tools.
  10. I want to move to Wheatly when I grow up Walleye, Steelies, perch and Sheepies with a side of Muskies and Smallies nearby. Can't beat that!!!!
  11. Careful of the small print. That's a 1 hour outing. Depending on when and where that might easily end in a $50 boat ride and no fish.
  12. It's a funny story until you realize we are talking jail time or a huge fine that could run into tens of thousands of dollars. We have our own draconian story that was almost with us in BC. The BC government just delayed putting forward a new law that made it illegal to report contaminated food (ie. contaminated farmed salmon) to the public (ie. via any sort of media) and the sentence was going to be 2 years in the crowbar hotel. It was aimed directly at Alex Morton and the folks in BC trying to expose that criminal enterprise known as the farmed salmon industry out there. The bill is delayed but it is not of the docket and could still be introduced. This is just another effort on behalf of the scum that is now running this country, be they Libs like in BC and Ontario, Tories like the Feds or God help us the NDP where ever they turn up. McGinty attempted something just as sleazy to try and cover up the ORNGE scandal by making it a crime to report on any details of that debacle but he failed to get it through.
  13. You guys must be kidding. Coho's better than Kings, I don't think so. Spinning around in the line is NOT a fight, screaming off 100 yards of line then pulling all the way back to the boat, that's a fight. In the proper environment, ie the Pacific, the Kings even taste better. Thank goodness the crazies at the MNR are not favoring Cohos over Kings despite the foolish mistakes they are making with Lakers and Atlantics. One out of three is the best we can reasonably expect from the government after all.
  14. That's a nice UK site Bassfighter. Some unique flies and great prices too. At $6 for shipping from Britain well that's darn good as well. I would also recommend www.fishandsave.com as well. They sell discounted tackle of all types and they always have tons of flies. On many occasions through the year they discount the already deeply discounted prices for flies and you can frequently get a dozen quality flies for $3-$6 a dozen (and sometimes even less). Their flies tend to be very mainstream commercial flies from Hank Roberts and Hank Roberts Premium (whatever that means) and not really premium like truly hand tied custom pattered flies found on some other sites. I can attest that they do catch steelhead when bottom bounced or floated though and there's less crying when the snag in the rocks (due to the price).
  15. Let's go to the tape!!!!
  16. A 400/401TE is all you would ever want/need for Musky so I'm trying to understand why anyone would want an even larger and more expensive reel. The Tanx is literally a Tuna reel.
  17. Those Tranx are huge reels. I would favour a TE unless I was fishing for tuna.
  18. Wilcox used to be one of my favorite lakes for great Pike and huge largemouth. I would launch my Hobbie kickboat at the rowing area and park across the street. Then the aerators broke and it became a swamp. Have they replaced the aerators yet?
  19. Boats in general are expensive items to maintain, money pits if you will, but cheap used boats fit into this statement. "If you can't afford a new Porsche then you really can't afford a used one'. Same saying goes for cheap motor boats and cheap baitcast reels. Avoid cheap anything especially if an internal combustion engine is involved.
  20. Oh oh, the fish are finally fighting back. They have enlisted jihadist 'Cudas on suicide missions. Soon we will need Bush and Cheney to enlist Haliburton to address the situation with counter strike Dolphins all at massive expense.
  21. Young male bears go searching for territory in the spring of every year. This one has come a long way for sure. I'm not a hunter and take no pleasure from killing things but if I had kids, in Burlington, I would want all bears within the city limits shot or dealt with in an effective permanent way. I sympathize with residents in northern communities where this has become increasingly commonplace since the spring bear hunt was stopped. Hungry bears in your backyard is a bad thing and a little culling of the herd is probably a necessity..
  22. Our Gars are actually quite attractive fish. Alligator Gars like found in the Trinity, not so much.
  23. I second Golden Shiner. The head and the anal fin clinch it for me but they do look very similar. Catfish bait either way.
  24. It is legal as they are farm raised and or caught by commercials. They even have "green Bass" ie largemouth for sale at some stores. When you see "Brown Bass" ie Smallmouth then make your call. Personally I buy the Silver Bass, White Bass and White Perch all the time. Yummy. The Green Bass are always live and in tanks. Not only are they much more expensive I have a hard time eating Green or Brown Bass since I love catching them so much and it irks me when I see them kept for trophy's or for food even by legal sport anglers.
  25. They usually start the early bait opening during "summer hours". That will probably start at Bass opener.
