  1. The government doesn't know how to do math...everybody knows that
  2. VS100 at 11.2oz, the VBS100 at 16oz...no thanks. Not in a spinning reel anyhow
  3. you got me thinking about swimming around in the pads and slop for my kind of fishing...then i remembered there isnt pretty sand and beaches to walk on and drag my reel through...Won't need a Van Stal this year
  4. This is a nice surprise report, finally some real fish Looked like a fun trip down south, tossing cranks and pitching jigs. Can't beat it in any conditions. Great catch's guys! Thanks for the post, MTBF
  5. Yes they do make fine Spinnerbaits. Plastics too
  6. Kesagami Wilderness Lodge. Great fishing, Giant Pike and unreal hospitality. Yup, I'll be going there as long as it's there.
  7. I thought it was good Ahh the sunshine and warm temps are making us all feel good these days I think. Can't wait to get out for some fishing soon
  8. Try another brand...won't see things like that. The crankbaits out by Sebile are something else.
  9. Trying 15lb,30lb,40lb,50lb and 65lb Super Slick this year. The 40lb handled great. The Timber Brown got darker once wet, didn't have any memory to it and handled well. It's good ole Power Pro with improvements.
  10. O know you didn't just say that Musky...pfft the fish that dies if you fight it out..some almighty they are Bass Pro is a fun store, I like the fish tank and the boats...bout it for me.
  11. Glad you didn't. Take a cast or just spin the spool...then squeeze the reel a little and watch the spool stop. Got to love those.
  12. I have my pitching rods for bass where I use 50lb braided Super Slick, then frog rods with 65lb braid. I am going to try and use 30lb braid on my 6'10MH/Calais. It's a spinnerbait rod mostly but would be good for a chatterbait or buzzbait rod too. I use 30lb braid here because it's plenty strong to pull fish to the boat, but it's a nice diameter of line at a 8lb line diameter vs the 12lb diameter of 50lb braid. That being said, they make Super Slick in 40lb braid also that has a diameter of 10lb mono. It's a nice in between and is just right. 30lb .28mm 40lb .32mm 50lb .36mm I used the 40lb yesterday casting around some pike baits. It handled great and was very impressed with it.
  13. I didn't see the post BigChev had about his friend. There's the story..nice morning turned into...well u know.
  14. Very true merc, i was out in my little tin boat this summer fishing away...flat water 2km from home dock. It's kind of funny but my seat in my boat has a hinge on each side of the back rest. Well when i leaned back the power wire for my trolling motor was in that hings just barely somehow...i moved the gas can around when i left dock and the wire was up not down on the floor. I leaned back and pinched the wire, all of the sudden this 12' boat looked like a thick smoke cloud. I heard burning and saw smooke. Didn't know what was happening, I thought my motor 7.5 was on fire or the gas tank..ne was it was the cord rubber burning like a mother..pulled the wires off the battery and i just peeled the rubber off the wire while i pulled it. Point is this simple fishing evening could of had me dead like a bomb with that gas tank beside me. As fishing goes, crap happens and i got a brand new Trolling motor the next day. Looking back at this I shake my head but hey were all just fishing in the end right.
  15. Nope never said that Dan.
  16. You are one of a kind you know that right. Borrelli “I’ve been fishing on Lake Simcoe since I was five years old and I’ve never had anything like that happen,” he said. “We floated a good mile out (on the floe) before anybody got to us" Maybe he's telling a fib or maybe not. Point is it was freakish that the wind blew it apart. Wind changes and you shouldn't be so silly to know that. Went from 10km to 50km gusts one day out there this winter. No warning or anything. We stuck it out and were fine. Might of happened like that also. It was very cold out too(-11 right now out that way) so the ice is not getting thinner, during this time frame we are looking at. I don't know. I just think that those that go out for first ice like I have are a little crazy too but a concern is falling through. Not staying dry and floating off on a ice sheet. To me ur "dumbass" accusation on these individuals is ignorant. Plain and simple. People went through on Scugog too the same day I was out there. I was on good ice they found the bad ice. It happens that way sometimes. The dummies are the anglers at home like me wishing they were fishing
  17. I hope your ok Dr S but in a bad bad way I would love to see ur smart ass paddling around out there in the broken pieces of ice. Cliff your words couldn't be more true. I still can't believed somebody said to fine them. Like somebody abusing a resource catching OOS fish. Yup find them. They paid for there license...fine them, they brought there kids, or brother or dad out ice fishing. Yup fine them, there locals there good fisherman there nice hard working decent people. Make them pay! Yup makes sense to me.
  18. I love cork but maybe it's just because cork handles ended up on all the G.Loomis and St Croix rods that I own. Doesn't mean I won't buy a Cumulus or Cumara, they feel and fish amazing. Anybody who won't fish a high end "foam" grip is crazy.
  19. Ahh should of come in last month...20% off everything all month it was.
  20. The Alabama Rig has become pretty popular. I know that lot's of serious bass guys have come into the store and have already bought many of them, seeing somebody walk away with 2 or 3 too. I bought a couple and I'm going to give them a try this summer when I'm out in Eastern Ontario. This will be perfect there as the deeper water close to weedlines and all the rockwall fishing. One thing last year I noticed is how many schools of minnows are out there...scanning the surface in the mornings and casting to schools of something busting on the surface would produce the odd bass or pike. A trent with big bass out that way I noticed is that I could find good numbers of fish over 15ft and 20ft of water and would normally catch them with a popper. Situations like the rock walls where fish will get pushed up against them will be a good area to start. Shallow water on Scugog...different story. I hope I'll catch a few more fish out there this summer with the new swimbait rig.
  21. x2 I'll be going with a 7' in L or UL for a Crappie rod for the spring. Nice to hear what I was thinking to get.
  22. Your right Cliff, most of the prices you will see tho will come down in price this year. All of Berkley Powerbait went from 4.99 to 3.99 other stuff went from 5.99 to 4.99 the hollowbelly and fancy stuff went from 10.99 to 9.99 and the entire Gulp lineup has gone from 6.99 to 6.49 These are all minor bits of savings but it's about time. The guys at the store remember when a pack of worms were 7.99 plus tax. Times are changing. Let's see of other brands of plastics start to follow and fall back some.
  23. Your very right Lew, regular Power Pro is still available as far as I know. About a $3-$5 dollar price difference between lines too depending on where you look.
  24. Power Super Slick is very new and is talked about lot's. Think I'm going to fish it this year on all rods that have Braid on them. Still sticking to my Trilene 100% fluoro tho for other applications. Well see how it holds up. The Timber Brown is a nice color and the Green looks more lighter in color now. Well see what fading the new PP shows after some hours in the boat.
  25. That's not a problem. Give it 2 weeks and I'll have all the models on the floor at Gagnons. Check them all out, there is no better rods for the money. Feel M's feel MH's. I was playin around with a 6'9 and 7' MH's today and thought they were great rods. Bought my Dad one. Don't look past the cheaper rods and specifically Abu Garcia. For some reason with them and Rapala they make great rods at a cheaper than average price. Let us know what you decide on!!
