I work for a geotechnical engineering company, and I would say minimum a minimum of 6"of properly compacted Granular 'A' or 3/4"Crusher-Run limestone would be sufficient as a base. If your subgrade is closer to clay, go with 10-12", in areas of sandy subgrade, 6" is more than enough. Follow that up with 60mm of HL-3 Asphalt, and you'll have a driveway that will hold up for the foreseeable future. When the paver is laying the asphalt, have someone check the thickness with a nail, these guys buy asphalt by the ton and may try and skim a bit off the top. Also, when discussing asphalt thickness, make sure to specify 60mm of asphalt packed. That should work out to around 75mm loose. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, I can also point you in the right direction of a quality contractor. If you want I'd be happy to come over and take a look.

I quit 5 years ago last month, and it was the best thing that I ever did. Tried the patch, the gum, zyban, eberything under the sun and I ended up having sucess 'cold turkey'. I had a smoke one morning, put it out half way through, gave the rest of my pack to my GF and that was that. I still enjoy the odd cigar, but haven't had a ciggy since that February morning! For those that still smoke and want to quit, "YOU CAN"!!! It is all about your mindset. Darcy

Hey Art, I'd love to be included in the draw, great idea! This is Gord Pyzer's recipe, originally published in In-Fisherman a number of years ago. It is not for the faint of heart or those who don't like spicy food (Gord says it will make a Swede sweat bullets), but it may be my favorite fish recipe of all time. -1.5lbs fish fillets, cut into 1" cubes (whitefish, perch, walleye and pike are all excellent, I've also used tillapia) -3 or 4 strips of bacon, diced -2 cloves of garlic, crushed -2tbsp onion, chopped -2 sticks of butter (I use way less, in the neighborhood of 2 or 3 oz) -2tsp cayenne pepper -1.5tsp dijon mustard -1/4 tsp basil -1/4tsp thyme -1/2tsp oregano -5 squirts Tobasco sauce -2tsp fish boil seasoning (I rarely use) Preheat oven to 375deg F. Sautee the bacon, garlic and onion in a skillet until the onion is translucent. Add butter, mustard, cayenne, basil, thyme, oregano, Tobasco and fish boil, and simmer 3 minutes. Add fish, stir and simmer another 3 minutes. Transfer to a baking dish and bake in 375deg F oven for 20 minutes. I usually serve with rice. As stated, this is quite a spicy dish; if you can't handle the heat, reduce the cayenne. Darcy

If it was me and I'm only going 1 or 2 times a year, Simcoe would be my choice. The perch are pretty much always on, good chance of pike at almost anytime in the perch grounds and you can switch it up for whities and lakers if you want. Also, lots of decent operators on Simcoe, depending where you want to head out from. Good luck, Darcy

So very true Charles.

lmao I'm sure that KVD is surfing internet message boards right now! Well maybe KVD but certainly not Kevin Van Dam...
-
Kevin Van who??? The man can certainly get the job done.

7 or 7:30pm I believe...
-
Nice report, what were you getting them on?
-
I had tons of window shoppers yesterday as well, in fact, I ended up going home with another skunk! Unlike the last couple, I definitely don't have the lakers or whities dialed in this year. Mind if I ask what colour Meegs, and if it was tipped with anything? Darcy

A good vacuum sealer is worth its weight in gold (or fish.)

Thanks for the replies. All fish but one were caught on minnows, some with a split shot rig and some were drop shotted. I also caught one on a Williams Dartee. The fish seemed to be gorging on Smelts, one that we caught just over a pound had 3 big shiners and 2 smelt inside; one smelt was half digested and was over 8" long! Sure is a nce change from the lack of success (for me this season anyways) on Simcoe. The picture of the ling is on my buddy's camera, I'll post it if he sends it my way. Darcy

Yeah, I would say about 5km North of Minden on the east side of Hwy #35.

Quick report from Mountain Lake in Haliburton: A buddy of mine from work asked if I would join him and his 2 boys for a day of lake trout fishing on Mountain Lake in Haliburton. Never having fished this waterbody before, I jumped at the chance and by Saturday morning @ 5am we were on the road to Grahams Guiding on Mountain Lake. To make a long story short, Andrew Grahams service was excellent and most importantly, his huts were on fish. We landed 9 lakers ranging from about 1 to 5lbs and one ling around 5lbs, losing a multitude more. If anyone is looking for a nice change of scenery from Lake Simcoe, Grahams Guiding gets a big recommend from me. (705)935-0003 Darcy

My thoughts exactly. Darcy

KVD is always a threat, but Boyd Duckett or Kelly Jordan also have a good shot IMO.

Further to the 'Bait Management System' thread: When first opening the Gulp Alive tub, do not remove or open the vacuum seal under the lid. Instead, use a pocket knife and cut a small 'X' around 2"x2" seal in the center of the to get your bait out of. If the vacuum seal is intact the container lids don't seem to leak. Tip courtesy of Rob Hyatt.

Restoule is a really nice park: When I went it was less of a fishing trip than it was a camping trip with the wife, but we rented a canoe, didn't fish hard at all and still got a few in the boat. Caught some decent shmallies in there and have heard of some large esox coming out of there as well. Concrete boat launch, 3.5hours from the city, some good hiking trails around that park as well.
