  2. Is that a vampire bat? Look at those teeth dsn
  3. The Hair rig method I used to use all year round last year. But this year in the earlier season didn't work as well. Cause the fish weren't that aggressive on the takes. Plus when you have alot of smaller fish around (smaller carp 2-3lb range) and gobies around the hair can be a useless. So I started off using the old placing kernels on a hook method which worked great. I tried using bollies that day but nothing. So I switched back to corn. The corn was brighter under the cloudy sky and was very visible in the dark waters. I got more hits on that than with bollies for that day. dsn
  4. July 11th. I haven fished the island for sometime now and was desparate to get into some bigger fish. Cause this summer so far I have been playing with smaller fish cause the location is closer to me since I moved. And checking the weather report they said there is a slight chance of strong thunder storms later in the morning. Well I decided to test my faith in almighty once more. Plus I haven't fished the locations at the island for some time now. So I'm not even sure if the carp are where they are supposed to be at this time of year. So I decided to give it a try. Urbanangler was supposed to meet me there but couldn't make it the last minute. It was really windy in the morning. And if a storm did blow through it would have been a real nasty one cause of the winds. I walked along the shore looking for anything that moved. Saw some bass still busy doing their thing. Nice to see!! Then I saw some carp crusing around. I tossed in a micro plastic jig. As it fell and landed on top of a milfoil the fish headed towards it. And my blood started pumping. I knew that a micro jig wont be able to hold a carp but I wantted to have some fun and knew that whenever I wantted to release him I just had to horse him in and the hook would starighten out easily. He slowly moving in and looks down.. gulps the plastic and.... He makes a run!! Around and and up and down the bank wrapping as much weeds as he can to put pressure on the hook. Sure enough with all the weeds around my line between me and him. The jig straightens out. Just as I though it would happen. Time to move on... to the famous carp pond. Saw some fish in there too. Boy was it easy pickens there. Take a look. They were in about 1 foot of water right up close to shore. Mind the land mines. Alot of it too I might add. (duck droppings) I drop some corn in there. Right infront of thier noses. They spooked abit but couldn't resist the smell of sweetness. And came in. Just as it got closer to my hair rig I was getting ready to set the hook. It moves in picks up the hair rig. I see it disapear and go for the hook set!! Out comes the hair rig in mid air and there goes the fish. Talk about getting all excited. I guess I was just too pumped. Ok over to my next location. The winds started to pick up at this point and everything gets darker and the clouds move in thick!! The clouds to my left were getting darker but on my right side it was still sunny. I tossed my hair in and waited and watched the clouds come across my path. No rain yet. I knew if it started to come down I'd have to pull out my rain suit in a hurry. It got really dark. You can see in the next pic. And yes the fish were turned on!! The darker it got and with no rain made for a interesting day. Surely with conditions like this I knew smething big will surface from the deep. They always do come up when its dark. So beware!! A slight tug and slack on the line. Hmm must be a gobie. Then and other tug and out goes the line like frieght train snagged it !! Short fight and this guy shows up from the deep. I said to myself ok they are here. But not much. I landed it and took a quick pic with what little light there was. The clouds were moving pretty fast by now. And I didn't see any dark clouds in the sky heading my way and no rain coming down. Infact it started to get brighter and only few rain drops. Not enough to run for cover. Then it finally happened the monster showed up. The line took off again like I snagged a missle. It took a very long run to seek out every weed patch there was in sight. But I had 14lb fireline which cuts through weeds very nicely. Which it didn't this time. So I had to take my time. And sure enough I landed the monster. During this battle I didn't even know that the clouds had moved off and the sun was coming out again. I'd say he was the biggest I landed this year. It might even topped the biggest I landed last year also. It had a huge gut on it. Hopefully I'll be heading out again with urbanangler this time. I need a camera man. dsn
  5. Hmm everyone made a good point. I surely thought it was duck. But since like you folks mentioned its not webbed. Still why would someone toos chicken feet in the water. Voo doo? aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! dsn
  6. Went to my usual honey today after urbanangler and I fished it yesterday and the day was slow. I noticed a funny smell. Like rotten meat. I didn't find this yesterday til I looked in the water closer to shore today. In the first pic you can see 2 sets of feet. Thats means two ducks were killed. But there was more. There were least 5-6 sets of feet scattered leaving a trail in to deeper water. I tried to take a pic of the enitre mess but it didn't turn out. Even with these pics you can barely make them out. Wonder could it be a masive hungry pike that went on duck rampage to fill his hunger strikes? Or was it humans trying to sample everything that moves? dsn
  7. I just want to remind folks it a family fishing weekend comin up. I might even go out with some family members. dsn
  8. Look on the bright side. Since we humans can't whipe out the Asain Carp this could the answer to our prayers!! Yeah as much as I love carp fishing I won't want the asain carp around the great lakes. dsn
  9. Heres something interesting to read... "Spring Viremia Virus" Introduction Spring viremia of carp (SVC) is a viral disease that can cause significant mortality of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). This species is raised as a food fish in many countries and has also been selectively bred for the ornamental fish industry, where it is known as koi. Historically, the disease has been a problem in Europe, the Middle East, and Russia. Recently, SVC has been reported in koi in the United States for the first time. This information sheet is intended to inform veterinarians, biologists, culturists, and hobbyists about SVC. What is Spring Viremia of Carp? Spring viremia of carp is caused by Rhabdovirus carpio, a bullet-shaped RNA virus. The disease has been reported in common carp (or koi) (Cyprinus carpio), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), and Crucian carp (Carassius carassius), a close relative of the goldfish. Recent evidence suggests that common goldfish (C. auratus) are also susceptible. The disease was initially diagnosed in Yugoslavia (Fijan et al. 1971). Since then, it has been identified in other European countries, Russia, and the Middle East. Mortality has reached 70% in yearling carp from European populations. Adult fish can also be affected but to a lesser degree. Heres the link where I found it... Spring Viremia Virus Orginated from Yugoslavia
  10. I agree with weeds. They have tons of dead fish to analyze all they want and still have no conclusion? Slow I'd say. Or are they getting paid by the hour? dsn
  11. Great report . Least you got out and got a mixed bag of fish. As for the weather channel only wish people can sue the weather wether man. People sue everyone one esle. People sue for defamation of charactor, car accidents, assaults, a company wrongs, malfunction of items. Why not when your life is on the line when you depend on them for the weather. dsn
  12. Belated "good Luck!" dsn
  13. My camera has no settings to reduce glare. I try to position myself at the right angle to get these shots and without casting a shadow on the subject too. Why didn't they invent a polarized lens that sqrews into the front of these digtals like the old 35 mmm SLR's ? Or designed all these digitals that can hold a polarized lens? Were they thinking? And for the carpin next time then. dsn
  14. I leave the skin on. I like mine crispy. But then again I can go out and buy slices of a skinless fillet. Who would know if it was bought or caught? I usually buy the skinless fillets anyways and its frozen of course. Usually comes in slices frozen and you just chose how many fillets you want and bag them and they wiegh it. Costs according to the weight.. Will they bust me? dsn
  15. Did you go and have the doc take a look at it? What did he say? dsn
  16. I'll try for blue gill tomorrow maybe. And try a different tube and see what happends. I'm saving those last two shots full size that for sure. dsn
  17. I might see yah in your area tomorrow snag. I live only 15 mins away from a dollar store maybe I should check it out for lures. LOL dsn
  18. I got up this morning and headed down to my usual hole. Since it wasn't as hot out today. I saw alot of activity going on. I think fish wake up before we do. Just look at all the activity ... Carp where searching for me. But I didn't really feel like feeding them this time. I don't know why but I wantted to take it easy. For some reason.. I fine these kinda shots are more relaxing. Sure it's great to be holding a big fish and snapping a shot. But to capture them in thier natural state for me is more gradifying. More garbage. I thought the below shot was kinda cool with the plants. Natural aquarium setting, look. Gills were out playing chasing each other. Underwater friendly community just like OFC at times. There some kinda feeding frenzy here. I don't know what they were feeding on. And I couldn't make it out either. This fish had his head in the dirt digging for food. Could have been easy prey if I had my rig ready to go. I would have snuck it right under his nose. Without him knowing til he took it. Thats how easy the morning fishing could have been. More bubbles from the carp diggin up dirt. Bubbles where everywhere moving away into deeper water. Leaving a trail of smoke behind. After looking at all the activity... I decided ok let fish for the small guys have some fun. I have alot of these tiny jigs but never used them. Maybe this would work. Nothing beats sight fishing at its easiest. I had a sunfish hit a spit the thing so fast I couldn't even set the hook. He never went for it the second time after he discovered what it was. Should I have used scent on these tiny jigs? They don't seem to really go after them. Or they would spit the thing so fast. Does anyone use these here on OFC ? But another fish took it!! Then this little guy came out from no where and boom!! Can't remember when was the last time actually went for them on propose it's been many moons. The back drop really makes these fish stand out wow. I'm amazed myself how these two pics turned out. After this fish it was 12:30pm. People started to show up so I left, quietly. Hee Hee dsn
  19. Aahh nice and refreshing. No thanks. dsn
  20. Helped my brother move yesterday. Boy was it hot. It was nuts. I had to leave my building and walk over to his and in between was a school. The teachers where out with some of the kids. As I walked by I over heard the teacher saying "OK when you run or jog and become hot or feel dizzy and need a break go to one of the teachers or inside to cool off. If you need water there's a place to get cold water. As I kept walking I saw this big shiney BBQ grill!!! Thought to myslef wow these kids aren't doing that bad out here at all. It was around 9:30am in the morning. Wish I was having a BBQ. So you see the school takes care of them very well. least this one does. My neice goes to this school. I thought she might be outside but I didn't see her. Least today the temps are abit better. dsn
  21. Wow the tempture is brutal with the humidex today. I'm lookin at the weather eye and it says that the GTA is 32 degrees not including the humidex. With the humidex it feels like 40 degrees. The winds are at 17 km. I'm looking at the island temp it's 24 degrees with the humidex the island is at 31 degrees. Hardly any winds. Only 7km winds. What a difference. I think its time to hit the island and stay there the entire day. Much cooler. dsn
  22. Nice report. I thought you caught a bowfin too? No? Well they are also at the island too. dsn
  23. Awwwe no shots of them feeding off your gorund bait? I love the last shot you took of the duck going into you bucket and helping themselves its harlious. I occasionally get the sparrow or redwind black bird go after my can of corn. When I'm out. I think the birds are catching on to us. I'll try to get a shot of it next time I'm out. dsn
  24. Me too love to see some bass action shots!! If you can get them while they are on the jump. dsn
  25. Hmmm tangling your feet in the water to attract a muskie then get him to take your lure as he gets in closer. Who would have thought? But it worked!! Always bring and extra set of batteries. I always carry 4 sets with me all charged up. Nice fish!! dsn
