  1. I know it’s been some time since it happened, but sorry for your loss but also too congrats on the new relationship however that looks. Definitely consult a lawyer to protect yourself and whatever you plan on leaving to your kids as awkward as it may be
  2. Thanks guys. I’ve never owned a bigger boat so good to know. I’m on a budget so I’ll be on the lookout for a sub 20’ tinner to restore/resto mod.
  3. Hey everyone, need opinions on buying a second boat. We just purchased a seasonal trailer on a small spring fed lake. It has Bass, Perch and some walleye. Our current boat is an old 16’ Starcraft bow rider. Good multi purpose boat that gives everything we need at this lake. (Fishing, tubing, cruising) Launching is nasty and done by the park so the boat will become a seasonal put in too. By doing that, I won’t have a boat to use at home on small reservoir lakes and travel/camping/fishing trips. I’m also surrounded by big water. Huron and GBay near the trailer, and Lake Ont near home. So looking for a multi purpose boat to do good weather salmon fishing, French river/or other rugged Canadian Shield area fishing/camping trips and smaller inland lakes. I’m not opposed to a nice fiberglass family inboard bow rider for this lake also if the 16’ Starcraft is the better choice as the “travel-multi purpose” boat or would an old 18’ or 22’ aluminum Starcraft (bow rider or Boston whaler style) hull be a better option as my camping/destination/home waters boat? Not sure if that’s getting too big for smaller lakes... thoughts?
  4. Thanks. The cheese steak sammies have me craving this rig but I’m wondering if this one is just too small for get together. Just as well, PA sold out in one day . I’m going to watch for other sales
  5. Thanks for your thoughts. When you say you find it on the small side is that when cooking for more than 5-6 people kind of thing? I have a tent trailer and a seasonal trailer. So I like the fact that this one is small and portable and could be used with both types of camping. In both cases I have either a full-size barbeque or a portable grille. As much as I’d like a three burner unit with a lid, I don’t think that would work for both set ups.
  6. Nobody uses these things? https://www.princessauto.com/en/22-in-2-burner-tabletop-griddle/product/PA0008999427 looks like a great way to make bacon and eggs or a whack of pancakes...or sautée a mess of veggies. useful, or a waste of money/space?
  7. These seem to be all the talk on camping forums, do any of you guys use them? Thoughts?
  8. That valve must have taken the piston out. Did you find it all lying in the crank case? you mentioned seized motors, did you find a runner or did you have to free up a seized one?
  9. Watching with interest.
  10. Outboard conversion sounds like the only practical option
  11. Yup, commonly referred to as EZ lube axle I believe
  12. Cerka in Milton. Better than PA, You will get a slight discount from the list price showing on their website. They also build to spec.
  13. We were seeing them in the treetops in pairs when camping at bonechere provincial park. I knew we were close to Pembrooke and Petawawa. What I did not know was that there is a landing strip just outside the park border on the other side of the road. No wonder they were so low LOL but mighty cool nonetheless
  14. It’s the worst time in history to buy an RV or boat. But we just did it. We paid too much for an older seasonal trailer in a park we’ve been eying for years. The landscaping and hardscapes on our particular lot was too much to resist (the best landscape in the park, and one of the most private) and life isn’t getting any longer. We’ve always been cottage renters & provincial park users, but booking ANYTHING this year has been totally impossible and I think next year may be the same. Sometimes you have to say eff it and blow some dough. Can’t take it with you. This gives our kids a place to go also and we’ll still do our travel camping with our old set up when it opens up again.
  15. Does it come with the jack plate?
  16. Those are the only 2 locations that I’ve launched, but I recall a second marina on the north end?. ONT PP’s are having booking issues for day passes even, so you might want to call/book ahead no matter where you launch
  17. Later season use and less winterizing work. bracket is even better than a splashwell conversion. More floor space, but not everyone can build one
  18. I’d put in a relay fuse with a spare in your tool kit. I just bought these gauges to monitor my house and trolling batts, not installed yet though. https://www.amazon.ca/PerfecTech-Voltmeter-Waterproof-Automobiles-Motorcycle/dp/B01LZJZL6R/ref=asc_df_B01LZJZL6R/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459081477310&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7719460791744150519&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000995&hvtargid=pla-670607828061&psc=1
  19. 2 Pb’s? Sounds like a great trip to me
  20. True they don’t. But aside from reverse running engines (on a twin screw vessel) I think there was more to it. I recall stories of guys pulling 428’s from old Chris Craft’s and finding the couldn’t cool them enough for street use. This could be a total tale with no truth of course... But I keep going back to questioning car vs a boat differences. did they throw beefier cranks, rods and pistons in the marine block? Different cams for different power bands? A car uses a lot of torque and HP to get moving, then considerably less once momentum is gained, hills fade etc., whereas a boat needs continual power all the time except trolling. Or we’re all short blocks of the era simply robust enough to handle either ?
  21. True but weren’t they purposely built for marine? Automotive engines don’t have to work as hard ie under continual load wide open?
  22. Agreed, it is sharp. And I’d do the same. Close the hole, replace the transom, add a knee brace and splashwell. But over the long run. Winter project. I’d try to get it running and use it for the rest of the season if it didn’t cost an arm and a leg.
  23. Is yours a square stern? I use an older humminbird portable with a suction cup transducer on the stern. I clip the cable tight to a tie off in case it falls off and it has. (I don’t want it getting in the prop) You could go to a metal shop and have them bend a piece of 1/8” aluminum into an upside down J and hook it over the transom or gunnel. This is what I did with my portable when I got my first boat. (I knew I wasn’t keeping the boat so I wasn’t putting in anything permanent)
  24. An old thread for sure but a good one to resurface. It’s a good mod. I have fiberglass Scott square stern that sucks to sit in all day. It’s wide and super stable and would be a good candidate for this if I bring it back out to use
  25. Very fitting. RIP Dusty. They had such a great library. I’m particularly fond of their earlier work. Blue Jean blues, Jesus Just Left Chicago etc. Nobody else like them
