Four Days of Bassin' - Report and Pics
splashhopper replied to JustinHoffman's topic in General Discussion
great report... i am wondering about that "full moon thing" myself after the amazing weekend I had as well. -
welcome to fishing the "good spots".. .at least that's what my buddies tell me when I am yapping about having to walk a kilometer in through 1-2 feet of snow for trout on the Maitland river..... or a half kilometer through thick UN-CUT brush for some prime fishing territory on another nameless river... i didn't have waders when i started and eventually bought some cheapies from Canadian Tire.. figure it out.... do it... and come post a story of the fish you catch because the place isn't over fished with "fishermen" that won't put some effort in to it lol or as NiKe and the new Depends commercial says : JUST DO IT ! lol

Kids always have things in the right perspective.... your son was laughing his butt off about YOUR reaction to the busted rod.... He didn't seem to care about the "pond monster"... lol I love fishing with my daughter -
Nice day, nice fish...Lot's of details.

great story keep em coming.. nice fish too and thanks for the explanation about the rod... that stuff helps newbies like me alot -
I like the same one too, Woodsman,,, but I add a very small split shot inside it so I can cast it further and to make its butt sit down in the water better..

Here are a couple of quick suggestions for newbies ( like I was a short while ago) starting out on this board: 1) Tell us about yourself and the fishing you like to do. 2) Post some pics of your latest adventures... they don't have to be big fish either 3) Respond to other posts on the site.... it takes a "community" to make a board... please participate 4) Stick to the topic of the particular threads. 5) PLEASE DON'T post honey holes on the board.... even if YOU THINK "everyone" knows about them anyways... 6) If you are looking for directions to other fishermen s "honey holes"... don't bother asking.... they are honey holes for a reason. 7) Ask questions about the type of fishing you want to participate in.... lots of great help here 8) PLEASE don't attack other members on the board.... if you have a beef with them... send them a PM and deal it with like adults. 9) Enjoy your experience here and if you do,, tell others about it.... 10) Check out the sponsors ads once in a while ... maybe they do have something you need/want and just don;t know it yet 11) Click on the tab above that says " our anthem" My daughter and I have benefited from the very generous support and encouragement of many of the members here. I hope you do too. Sincerely, Splashhopper

that's a great toon... I never really appreciated it until 2000 when I was back in Moosomin for my grandfathers funeral though... That song came on the radio and the guys I was riding with started singing it... And then I heard Randy mention the town I was born in....lol Now i love it... thanks for the video bro... Real glad to see you on the board again... When is your next report coming out? I always enjoy your back country expeditions. Splashhopper

i use Scum Frogs and add a small split shot in to their butt before I toss em on the weeds

Have you tried sleeping in your van/truck when fishing?
splashhopper replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
found it.... looks pretty easy to do... and the guys have a blog going for their trip now.. -
I am without my trailer this fishing season and considering putting a sheet mattress in the back of my grand Caravan to sleep on when the salmon and trout start running soon. I enjoy night fishing for them at the river mouths. I have had naps in the drivers seat,,,, lots of times.... But am thinking of taking the two back seats out for the weekends of fishing.. I have an electric heater that i can use, with a power converter, and an extra battery to boost the van if need be. If anyone has any ideas or experience doing this about this, please post em. Some pics would be great too if you have em. Thanks Splashhopper

Lots of good people out there to remind me of why I need to try and be nicer more often myself

That looks pretty close to the O.F.A.H fish estimator calculator.. I caught my PB smallie( by weight) this weekend.. and a guy weighed it for me on an old scale he had in his tackle box... it came up just over 6lbs... I took measurements of the fish and checked it against that link I put up here and it showed a little over 6 lbs too.. I used the method described earlier in this thread.. L x L x L / 1700... 22 x 22 x 22 / 1700 = 6.26... a little over six again.. the only question I have of the method above is that I caught a 23" smallie earlier this year and it didn't weight anywhere near the football one I caught this weekend... compare these two pics for an example... 23" caught a couple months ago > and then this 22" one I caught this weekend >> BIG difference in weight. I will take measurements and hope i get a digital scale for my birthday.. Splashhopper

That's interesting you mentioned " tough one to beat".... After I caught that one... the next ones just seemed so,,,, bland! lol It was even harder to get pumped up for fishing on Labour day.... oh well... the trout will be coming in soon enough.. btw... that bass in your photo looks huge too... -
