Back Lake Camping With The Kids ~ Family Cottage Trip
Moosebunk replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Shooting for Nip myself. May see Bill on his way out. We'll fish again though... you've got an infectious sense for adventure I like. Bought a house. Yep. Done deal. Moving this wednesday. Next stop... furniture shopping, followed by boat and ATV. Kept the Warcanoe... that oughtta turn some heads on the Ottawa River. lol. -
They're both brutal fisheries that can at times give ya a great day. Go to Temagami. There's no one up there this year as the American's are broke and not traveling, and the Torontonians think fishing in the north is a trip to Barrie. (I got this inside info ya know) Both lakes are nice and scenic with lots of camping.

Didn't even have to leave the house to catch'em. That's a quality fishery right there dood. lol.... nice specks.

Yes, sadly the magazine is finished... forever I don't know. But for now, yes. Very much enjoyed reading and writing for EA and wish all those involved a future full of big toothy fish.

Back Lake Camping With The Kids ~ Family Cottage Trip
Moosebunk replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
One of your best reports Mike. Would have been even better with more pics of your wife. I'm most happy this trip worked out for you. The kids seemingly managed to have perfect fun and you got some fish for yourself with friends. Ya did a helluvalot better running those rapids than Billy did. And the spot doesn't seem too fished out at all. You probably scared them into the deeps when ya jumped overboard to catch 'em. Haha. Good stuff man, enjoyed this one. -
She'll keep going strong to 180 if she keeps breathing that night air under the stars. Short and sweet TJ. Nice.

Geeezus.... I didn't see the kid one. I know some were on fire with the Renegade post. There's some mouthin' in the kayak post. Couple recent threads people have been a little too jumpy around here. Must be that the anglers here are out fishing, and the wannabe anglers are sitting miffed at their computers waiting to pizz on peeples parrades. Here's a bottle of chill pills. Over the counter... no prescription needed. Help yourselves.

2 or 4 stroke Evinrude Mercury Yamaha or Johnson
Moosebunk replied to jr7roo's topic in General Discussion
Have two 15's. My two stroke is noisy and stinks. My four stroke is not. My two stroke Johnson is light at 75lbs, my Honda's a little heavier around 105. From a 20L tank, my two stroke gets about 75km to my four strokes 90km. I never did mind mixing the oil and gas. If I had to chose just one though, the 4-stroke would be it. For your boat go the max horsepower. For smaller 4-stroke outboards choose Honda first... the rest in whatever order ya want. However, if you think you'll be boating in places where a solid lower end is important for taking the odd bump... choose Honda or Johnson before Merc or Yamaha. -
Ahhhhh the old eyeball pike hold. Actually, it still lives on strong in the north, thank Gawd. Hey, they're garbage fish anyway, right. lol. j/k

Dentists (Had Your Wallet Drilled Lately?)
Moosebunk replied to Photoz's topic in General Discussion
Got one cavity when I was a kid so had it filled. 2 years ago the tooth got sensitive. In May it finally broke but the filling stayed in. I went to the dentist 3 weeks ago. He removed the old filling, put in a new one, and remodeled the tooth with extra filling. $160.00. You got robbed. -
Bren's and my deepest sympathies to you, Leah and yours. Very sorry to hear.

Some people sure do live in paradise. Excellent recount of the adventure. I can't believe how many huskies I see with two different eyes. Some huge lakers... makes trips like that worth it. Ya pull spoons, flatfish or jig'em up. Yellowknife surely was an interesting place when I went through. My friends tried convincing us to come to work there for the hospital....... now I'm thinking I may have to look into some contract work. A buddy of mine makes trips like the one you did. Has a boat there. Works for FirstAir at the hangar and his fiance for the hospital. I like that town but man... that's some real short softwater season. Bren and I are saving the Aeroplan points. We will have enough for next year... and she wants another pampering with Plummers, but this time on Slave. If we can manage it with our new jobs we'll try for an extended stay in the city. Thanks for the report.

Cottage/Back Lake Adventure With BillM, His Dad & Moosebunk
Moosebunk replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Just a quick check-in here... back to house hunting tomorrow. My sunday fish on St. Anthony and monday on Williston went OK... caught some smaller pike and had a big big blowup and miss on a black buzzbait. Definitely put some miles on. Enjoyed Larder area quite a bit. Beautiful up there, busy too. But that's what makes Solopaddler adventures so special, as, you're always willing to step away from the crowds at a moments notice. Getting into the back lake was well worth the adventure and maybe even the few knocks on the Hondas. You and Bill sure are both hard on your hands when you fish too. lol. Thanks for the invite again Mike. Was a pleasure meeting you, Bill and Frank. Hope to do it again sometime. -
Is this Whittle Lake in a Provincial Park? It's name rings a bell. Anyways, cabin looks mint. With the weather I bet it surely made your vacation that much better. It's tough conditions across the north this spring.

I launched my boat while it was snowing yesterday morning. Ridiculous. Caught a walleye that dumped its milt on my gunnel. There was a little ice between the cedar strips in my canoe. My compost hasn't seen a fly, cause it's still partly frozen. There is snow still on some shorelines. I agree it is a cool June.

Old fella at the launch has no right being like that with anyone, period. I get dozens and dozens of angry, sick, tired, abusive, demanding, demeaning and miserable people come see me throughout every year at my work. If I had of been you and finally off work heading fishing... I would have unleashed everything I've held back with those other people, on that ole launchlizard pr!ck. You did good kid by being smart... too bad the incident took away from your fun time. Next time though, step up to him and ask if he wants to take the first swing.

If Stoty was around right now, this is what he'd say...

Who hasn't jackknifed a trailer or two in their day??? lol. Nice fish Joey. Enjoy that new toy.

This comes at a convenient time as I was just looking at the Scott, Sportspal and a few boat sites today. Good to know about their durability, how they paddle, how they are in wind and their horsepower. Was wondering about life down the road and the different options for getting into backlakes. So far an ATV and float tube should handle the more remote stuff and smaller lakes less than a kilometer long. I have a 16' canoe that just needs new gunnels too. Anyone know who does that??? It's the slightly bigger backroad lakes with small launches or put-ins that got me wondering though ??? 12 foot cartopper... small trailer (do have a 15HP Honda) ??? Scott Canoe with a little more muscle and weight? SportsPal with a 2 or 3 HP for any access? Mike, I'll be stopping by to try yours out? Soon.

Where's my little Mighty Mouse emoticon??? Check it out Roy!!! Thanks.

So Canada has just put in 10.5 Billion in GM
Moosebunk replied to holdfast's topic in General Discussion
EVERYTHING ASIDE. Companies should be responsible to themselves and their own... especially ones with millions and billions in assets. The global economy upon which they feast or famine has seen highs and lows throughout the century and from the beginning of the auto industries time... it was, has and should always be their top priority to prepare themselves for changes in the tide. The money they make and have made should have ensured this... regardless of Union, pension, work-force, administration and even product issues. Their internal plans and actions didn't make the grade... so they fail. And fail means... start over next year from the bottom and do it again to get it right... NOT, push 'em through to the next grade because ego is more important than foundation. This "me" generation we somtimes talk of today does not just involve the children around us. In 20-30-40 years time, the actions of the governments today will come back and bite many people in the buttocks. And my bet is, it will happen over and over and over again... perpetuating the ideal that a failing grade is OK... someone will still give us an "A" and pull us through anyways. Just my $0.02 before the morning cup. -
Winter issue was late. Newstand mailing date previous year for spring issue was in February. For summer issue, May. For autumn issue, August. Basically, the spring issue this year doesn't appear to exist. I have a paid subscripition as well and should be expecting the summer issue soon... not the spring. Sad really... and I cannot find nor have I received any explanation.

fishing off season, catch and release acceptable?
Moosebunk replied to fishingisliving's topic in General Discussion
Or, open bass to icefishing to help the other species. -
fishing off season, catch and release acceptable?
Moosebunk replied to fishingisliving's topic in General Discussion
GCD, that same 90% picks at the other species which now need to be stocked in many border lakes and rivers. Maybe for a few years they should alleviate pressure on those fish by giving them the same elite closures as bass...???
