  1. You little devil Wayne. Better not give away my surprise to myself. lol
  2. Bill... Have you ever had a multiple trophy pike day through 40 inches of ice, or... on the river? I hear ya with specks dood. So pretty, so tough, so rare, so special. With big esoxes... so nasty, so toothy, so wily, so special. So hard to choose some days. All depends on moods and seasons. But, if I lived next to the Tree... I'd take char over anything. lol. So depends on the circumstances too I guess.
  3. I'll have what Wayne wants. Just so I can torment him by leaving it grounded. lol. I got my gift. It's in storage and will be unwrapped, put together and trailered home come spring.
  4. Best wishes Chris.
  5. Pike and specks are pretty much year round fish, and if I was still living in the north they'd be equals. Now that I'm in the south and have more opportunities for specks, I imagine they will solely take the #1 spot. Like others have said... it's real hard to pick one... cause jiggin' walleyes are a tonne of fun too.
  6. 24/7 - when did I make such a promise??? If I could get ya on a big toothy I would... truth is though, you're probably better at it than I am. Jacques - maybe I'll head PQ side for some whities at some point. Dunno??? Lots of new places I'm curious about for my first ever ice season in the south. And yep... I do have it in mind to camp and fish Kesagami this year, but I'll have to wait and see.
  7. I think it was January 2006 or 2007 Roy when every morning for about 2 weeks had windchills in the -45 to -52 range. It was just a brutal stretch I remember. Thems days be cold sometimes and I'd warm up the Renegade for like a 1/2 hour then scoot across that river as fast as I could. Every winter had it's share of snaps I guess. Anyways, there was always this little space with the parka at the neck where the helmet wouldn't allow me to zip it up quite all the way... if I didn't duck just right and was wearing just a sweater or even T'shirt... the air would get me there and really bite. Same with the eyes... water water water some morns. Fastest that skidoo ever rode for me was 187km/hr, never probs getting it to 160... On real cold days you wouldn't keep that speed for long, as you're right... it's extra windchill for sure. lol. Man... I'll miss my morning commutes this winter.
  8. I liked CC's sentiments and also Thorpe's. This topic is great food for thought. Mike... personally I'd think it not worth it for ya for river fishing... for pretty much the reasons CC states. Thanks for taking me out... you know you'd be welcome to fish anytime, anywhere with me. Same goes for DanC, Wayne and any others who have shared in the past. When people would come visit me up north, or friends who didn't regularily fish joined me, taking them fishing was the ultimate for me. There would only be certain types of fish I'd consider guiding for (some I'm not good enough at catching, some I am) and some places I'd only consider guiding. I think for guiding to stay interesting and fun for the guide... it has to somehow always be just as much of an experience for both guide and guest, and the odds would be best if stacked in favor of success, but in a setting/experience that can almost always accept some failure to catch as well because of all else that is lived in the day and place. ie, Drifter at Great Bear, Ramble at Kesagami or Ben in Seul. These types of places hold great chances for intended species, don't hold fear of later being raped, and are a wilderness experience outside of fishing unto themselves. If I don't have a regular job come next spring.................
  9. I'll be after trout mostly... I hope. Maybe pannies. Hope to take a trip for pike as well.
  10. Winter - tough weather, good fishing. Spring - tough weather, good fishing. Summer - weird weather, OK fishing. Fall - weird weather, OK fishing. It was a weird and sometimes tough weather year with some OK to good fishing. Hehehe!!!
  11. This was funny... CG is a fashion statement over the "North Face Titanium." Nice coat BTW. Yeah, I guess some yuppies down here have caught onto CG... To answer the original post. Dood... you may find Canada Goose's line of parkas a little bit too warm for the south, but that said... I've worn mine down here a few times and if it's too toasty I open it up... Up north in the winter, many days I'd drive my skidoo to work in the mornings in -20 to -40 cold and wear anything from a work T-shirt to a single sweater and be just fine cruising up to 160km/hr across the river on the ice road. I don't find mine heavy as it's all that gets worn all winter... And while fishing... southern buddies will usually be in the huts or Clams before you... that's for sure. North Face and Woods coats are good but aren't as warm... simple. CG are the number #1 choice for those who can afford them across the north which I had lived. Drifter16 seems to be saying the same thing for Yellowknife. Never regretted paying for mine. Same with my wife. After both having ours 8 years each and them seeing lots of wear... they're still in great shape...
  12. I don't yet understand why I continue to keep opening your fall reports. They're punishment everytime. Especially for those who can't escape at the moment. Good fishing Paul and Mike. And Bill... smarten up dood... haven't ya learned by now who's boss???
  13. Hmph!?!?!?! A surprising post from you Chris. From long-winded global warming threads to a short anti-Habs post. You're changing with the seasons I guess. If the Leafs fans ever showed an ounce of the "honest passion" Habs fans have for their team, then maybe they wouldn't have been a franchise of "Hab Nots" throughout history. Booo your own team... so what??? Praising failure doesn't shape improvement, just look at the Leafs. Greatest sports Dynasty in the history of sport. The Habs ain't just about Scientific guessing... they're proven fact. On a side note... where's Stoty??? I can never find the guy in any fishing threads but he loves the hockey ones.
  14. Ahhhh she's blushing for ya!!
  15. Quite the snout on the brown. Probably a professional boxer, loaded with cash and fortunate enough to bang many hens this fall.
  16. Keep reporting like this and I'm gonna have to embrace my inner Quebecois and switch countries.
  17. You should be doing it for a living Mike. And here I thought my wife was giving. I should have taken the month off and moved in with ya. Very nice!!!
  18. Done-diddly doner!!!
  19. Thanks again doods. Tony, we'll do it again some time, I'm sure.
  20. Nuthin' short of cold rainy day spectacular fun Mr. Solo and Co. Nice work fellers!!!
  21. Totally agree with Solo... I broke my med/heavy spinning rod first day there by accident, then the Abu reel went on my baitcaster second day, so I fished out the rest of the week with an old medium 6'5" Bob Izumi spinning rod rated 6-15lb test. Had 30lb PP spooled on a 3000 series reel and it was the best fishing catching combo EVAH!!! Having fished these northern rivers 10 years, a medium/heavy spinning or baitcasting (something rated to top around 17-20lb) with a braided line of 20-30lb test, and a rod 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 foot (whatever you like) is just right. If trolling maybe have a second rod with 50lb braid on a baitcaster. Muskie gear is overkill as said. Baitcasters aren't even really necessary. The majority of baits for pike aren't nearly as big as the muskie stuff, and pike tend to easily hook themselves well on smaller hooks that penetrate easily enough with lighter rod actions than those of the muskie meat sticks. Be weary of your drag setting.
  22. I think it's weird staples were an option for your hand anyways. In 15 years of practice, 10 in Acute Care... I've never seen a Doctor, nor done this myself on that area of the body. Personally, I enjoy suturing... and have done about 330 different cases. Better to suture than to be sutured though. Usually the only people who refuse freezing are drunks. Ya weren't drunk were ya??? lol. Staples are removed with a staple remover. If ya have one at home and your convinced your signs and symptoms of infection are nil... go to town when the time is right.
  23. Break those chains man... don't let the woman get a brutha down. Catch feesh or die!!!
  24. Yeah before I forget... Splashopper... thanks for the reply and pics. Your little one and you should be proud, good for her; the little champ she is. And 52lbs at 11...???? WOW... my oldest is 3rd smallest in her class at 10 years old and she is pushing 70lbs. Yours must be eating fish and fowl while mine dines on cattle and moose. And thanks to the mods here at OFC as well. Most don't often acknowledge the reports but I know some must be reading as someone always edits out the P's and Q's. And that's gotta be some work sometimes.
  25. Classically nuts report as per the norm with you Wayne. Great stuff... and, nice big eye for ya bud. Good show.
