I have some fresh roe and want to cure it. I have tried pro cure before but it shrunk the eggs and i wasnt very happy with the way it turned out. Does any one have any tricks, methods, recipes they use to get roe that doesnt shrink, stays firm and keeps it colour (or adds some) and that can be frozen, thawed, and frozed again? Or am i being to picky?

Well Said. I will tend to agree with you, but for the most part, from my expeirences so far, is that many of the people that use this site are from S. Ontario, and not many who post are from up my way. There are a few. However, when it comes to techniques, it is much different up here than down there and becomes almost irrelevant as to the way i caught a fish. I say this, cause many people on the board are fishing S. Ontario and there are a lot of people that fish those lakes as it is, so what i might suggest will likely fall to the waistside and be forgotten. If you fish my way, i will gladly tell you what, where, and when so that you are in the right direction.

Thanks for all the nice feedback guys. Chances are now, i will go back, but will have to find some time with bow hunting coming up, and salmon fishing (that usually takes priority). My dad leaves again on Friday and he wants to go back tonight, but the weather man is calling for rain, so we will have to see. Never be afraid of trying bottom bouncers. If the fish or on or not, i find it allows you to get your bait down in the strike zone longer, and more efficiently, while keeping your bait looking as realistic as possible. It is a go to set-up when fishing is slow.

Nice little Chinook you got there. yes, i say chinook. If you do a search on previous lake O salmon reports and see any small salmon, you will see a very dictinct 'V' in the tail. I did a quick little search and one of the last reports that Jen made, with walleyes and salmon (which was a great report..thanks again, and keep me coming). She has a picture of three people and the young boy is holding two nice salmon, 1 large one, and one small one. If you look at the small one, its almost identical to the one in "question" here. my two cents...i have to go back to work now.

The stars were finally aligned for my dad, my brother, and myself to get out. With my dad working out west, and brother working in the Sault, it is hard for the three of us to get out fishing, but this time around we managed to pull it off. We decided to go back to a lake were i havent fished since opening weekend and vowed to myself that i would not go back this year to absolutly awful results. We get to the lake and its rough again.. this lake was starting to get under my skin. So we all agree to concentrate on the back of an island and do some jiggin out of the wind on a drop from 8-20 feet untill the wind dies down a bit. We fish this for a 10 minutes and the we all agree after not getting any htis, to suck it up and troll along the windbeaen shoreline. My dad puts on a victor 1 1/2 in. spinner with a worm, Caleb uses a jig with a worm, and i go to the bottom bouncer and wormharness. As we just finish the first pass i put the boat in nuetral so we can real up and turn around when my dad yells...FISH ON! After him fighting it for a while, and me fighting the waves my brother pulls out the camera. Gus wants to get into the action of walleye fishing Gus got annoyed with how long it was taking my dad to real it in, so he decided to leave. The result...a real beaut. We were all excited even though it was over 20 inches, and didnt want to take it home, it was awsome to see. So we start again and make another pass and nothing. Hmmm....turn the boat around and then BANG my rod doubles over and the fight is on Finally after a few runs, even with the bottom bouncer, this golden walter emerges quick enough for a pic, and then swims back to get bigger. Well, after me and my dad both getting walleyes over 20 inches, Caleb finally gets into one, and finally we see one under 18.1 inches. On the stringer it goes. We kept on making passes by the shoreline, in 9-12 feet of water, with Caleb doing most of the damage, however all of his were under 18 inches. He ended up getting 5 about 17 inches, all perfect for the stringer. Then my dad had enough and hooks into the biggun of the night. My brother and I were both pumped for him. Shortly after we notice a T-storm coming in and we decided to make a few more passes always. Glad we did, cause i found another hog We ended up only fishing for an hour and a half due to the storm, but we managed a 13 walleye, 5 of which were under 18.1 inches, and 8 were over 20. Here are a couple more of my dads, and mine. It was great to finally get all three of us out again. Probably the last time it will happen this year But there is always next year.

Awsome looking lures. Good job and good luck with them. I have a feeling that they are going to be successful for you.
-
Oh Boy!! you guys have some gear...but i agree, if we keep the lure talk to silence, we will all be happy about that! 2 Downrigger 1 Dipsy 3 Fly Rods 4 Steelhead (2- 11'6, 1 - 10'6, 1 - 9'6) 8'6, 7, and 6'6 medium heavy rods bait casters for bottom bouncing, cranks and pitching 1 7' medium heavy spinning for spinner rigs for walleye 3 medium action spinning rods for jigs and misc use. I am looking for an ultra light and another medium heavy and medium spinning rods at the moment too. Total 17 Not inluding ice fishing gear as well. Lets bring that up when the water turns hard!

LOL its not that we are large...we are svelte (esp. gracefully slender in figure)
-
Thanks for the info guys. I want to give them a try. Fishndevil, i will send you a pm shortly. The reason i ask is that up north here on Superior, in Wawa at the mouth of Michipicoten River, we are only allowed to run 1 rod each, so we dont have the option to run dipsy's, planners, etc. However, 90% of the success comes on Flashers and flies, or flashers and herrings (flashers, spin doctors, dodgers, and ab n al's), not straight spoons or plugs. So, anything that is a little different always helps.
-
Hey all, Well, its that time of year for me here up north to start thinking about salmon fishing in Superior, and i am seeing these new lures, well same old lures, but with an e-chip on them. Its supposed to create a positive ion control, attracting fish, instead of repelling. Has anyone been using these, with or without success? Thanks

Isnt that illegal????? I might be wrong. If they were fishing with him, then i dont see a problem, as everyone is out and partaking in the pastime. But to keep going out and catching everyone's limit?? this would burn my as.s too! Possession limits, if he already has his, and obviously he did and his family did, thanks to him, then anything over that is consisidered an illegal fish. Am i wrong?? therefore he would be poaching. I dont know what i would have done either being in that situation at the camp. Authorities proabably would have been a good call.

Hey I want to tighten the throttle of my older 15 hp Johnson. Its a 1980/81 motor. It runs fine, just that when i take my hand off the throttle it slows down. Its kind of a pain when i am trolling for salmon and have to take my hand off the motor for a minute and I lose my speed. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks Anders
