I honestly don't know....I've been to 4 police funerals in the last 4 years and have never seen it before. I'm assuming its to honour and "officer down".
Police funerals are surreal. Being there, you can feel the overwhelming loss and grief. You have never met the person, but you feel like you've lost a brother and its a feeling that only you and the other officers that wear the badge can understand. I know its cliche saying that you never know if you're going to make it home after shift, but its true.
I am quite upset that I did not get the opportunity to be there today. I was stuck with criminal court and I finished testifying the moment the march started.
It is humbling to see the publics response. I and everyone I have worked with have never been treated so well. So many people have thanked me for what I do. I'm not a hero, I don't claim to be. I'm just a blue collar guy that goes to work with a lunch box.
It is touching to hear, that even after everything thousands of people came out of the office buildings down town to follow the procession.
Stay safe guys, and sorry for being long winded. I get emotional at times like this.
