  1. Well Susan, looks like you'll fit in with the other artists on the board very nicely. All you friends amaze me with your talents and your wonderful paintings. Me - I'd be like a 2 year old with a set of finger paints. Great work Susan. My grandfather loved to paint and did quite a few, but mostly water scenes back in the 60's. My mother, father, and aunt have some of his paintings, but I had none. Last year, and as a complete surprise, a lady who goes to the same church as I do, said there was a painting from my grand-father hanging on the wall in the local business where he was superintendent. Pap had retired from there back in the early 1970's, moved to FLorida, and stopped painting. Since this painting was in a small office, she asked if I would like to have it. She wanted the picture to be in a place where it really would be appreciated. We'll that was a no brainer and about a month or so later, she shows up at my door with a nicely wrapped package. I almost forgot about the picture until I unwrapped it. It is a painting of a trout fisherman trying to land his catch. I'm very proud to have this hanging on our wall.
  2. Quite the respectable pike there Susan. My PB pike is only 37 1/2. Congrats to ya.
  3. I'm fortunate in that I always have someone else along. For launching, all prep work is completed (and the plug) before I approach the launch. I typically back it in to went the bunks and pull up a bit to walk behind the boat. I climb in the boart and my partner backs up a little more. Fire the engine, unhook the strap, and back right out. My partner pulls out and parks. For landing, back in until the bunks are good and wet. Pull up so part of the front of the bunks are out of the water and run the boat up as far as I can. Hook up the strap and pull it on up on. I do have one problem and that is getting the boat centered between the wheels. There's a bit of carpet on the wheel coverings and it's a little hard getting her centered so that she's not rubbing. I may only have an inch or two on each side to work with. I typically have to get into the water and push/pull the the thing to keep it centered while my partner slowly pulls out. This is the most time consuming part of landing for me. Fortunately, the places I go are not that busy, so I'm not holding others up too long. Still got some practicing to do backing up ... but I'm getting better each time I do it.
  4. Geeez Tinman ... sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle. 59 is just too young for something like this. Allow me to pass on my condolences as well.
  5. Great news on no heart damage, that's gotta be a great relief to you and you're family. Hope all goes well and he's home soon.
  6. I saw on the news last night - they had a retired FBI agent being interviewed. He is questioning if this really is DB Cooper's Chute. There was some of the ransom money found by some kids a number of years back. This guy was saying that the money could not have made its way from where the chute was found to where the money was found ... naturally that is. Who knows, maybe the guy buried the chute and lost some of his cash during the get-away. Sounds like they are opening this case up again, with the finding of the chute. It will be interesting to hear what the final verdict is. I've always wondered if he really made it or not.
  7. Welcome aboard and we hope you do. Looking forward to reports and pics .. whatever you catch.
  8. I have a couple different nets. One is a Frabil Big Game for that rare chance that I would land a musky or a large pike. It has seen the water once mind you. I have a smaller one for when we go bass fishing and maybe a try for Walleye this year. (I guess I'll also need a pickeral net too - whatever they are). Whether I net the fish or hand land it, depends on the size of the fish. If I can safely, easily, and not hurt the fish lifting it from the water, I'll hand land it. For something a bit larger, I'll use the net. I never land any fish by keeping them hooked and lifting them out of the water into the boat.
  9. As always, I seem to be a day late. Anyhow, Beans I hope you had a great day. And since I am a day late, have a great one today too.
  10. You got it Rick. Very tense times, but it's times like this where the entire OFC family pulls together as one. We're all with you.
  11. That's where you shovel ...shovel ... and shovel. Then sit down and cry. Thanks for the link and being able to see those pics. Dang glad it ain't here. Kinda reminds me a bit of Central New York a year or two where some places got over 100 inches of that Winter Wonderland.
  12. I'd probably have to take a couple pics with the fish still in the net and let her go. BUt - after the release, make a fast bee-line back to the cabin and give my wife the routine for not going out with me. It's not too often I'm out alone, but I can certain see the need for a tripod ... you just never know. It's not worth causing any more harm or stress on a beautiful creature such as that ... just for some pics.
  13. 45 ?? Just a kid. Hope you had a great one.
  14. My wife goes out with me as well and fishes for as long as the patience holds out - which does surprise me at times. If the catching is slow or non-existant, she sit down to a good book and let me keep right on fishing - as long as I want. Sure - when I catch one, the book gets put away ... for a little while anyway. It doesn't matter to me whether Patsy is fishing or not. More important is that we're out there together, whether we're fishing or doing our own thing.
  15. I as was little skeptical with that first pic .... close, but just not sure. That last pic convinced me. Won't be all that long now until the opener. Just three looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong months.
  16. Lakair GTG in June. Coming in Thursday and hanging around into the middle of the following week for some muskie chasing. Coming back to Wolseley Bay for a week in mid September. I'm following that up with a second week, but not sure where yet. May stick around the French for another week or head over to the Rideau system for some bass fishing ... assuming my Dad's planning on being there at the same time. Countin' down the days.
  17. I heard about that on the news yesterday. What are the chances of something like that happening ? Freaky way to destroy a happy vacation. Very sad for the family.
  18. I picked up a Gore-tex suit from BPS last year which included the jacket and pants, but I don't recall what we paid for it. Very lightweight, breathable, and did the job. The front of the jacket zippers and there is also a flap that you can snap to help cover up the zipper. I got mine a tad bigger than my normal size to allow for a more free movement while on the water. I only had the opportunity to use it a couple times, but was very pleased with it. I selected this one based on other's comments and that it was made of Gore-tex material. Folds up nicely and stores easily in our boat.
  19. Archives or current, very nice.
  20. Good mornin' Lew. March winds as they say .. and they're howling outside. Last week-end we saw the first flowers pushing up through the ground. Yes - winter is slowly losing its grip down here.
  21. That hurts just thinking about it.
  22. Why not .... I do some bass fishin' in Ontario.
  23. There's a road a few miles from my home called "DUMB HUNDRED ROAD". Word has it that there were about 100 people living along that back road many years back and all 100 of them were ...... . We'll you know.
  24. My wife has had some pretty good success with Bass on the Rideau Water system using Spinnerbaits with a touch of purple in them. We are presently in the market for a few more. Maybe the fishing gods were smiling on here or just lucky or that was the 'color of the day'. I'm sure she'll be throwing on some purple the next go-around up there.
  25. Welcome aboard Jason. We like Small Mouth Bass pics. I'm hoping to get into some good smallie action later on this year.
