Congratulations folks. Here's to many, many more.

Awesome. My Dad and step-mom were just up there a couple weeks ago. They pop in for a few days in Spring and Fall, just to explore and take pictures.
-
Would be awesome to take a cruise on one of those old sailing ships.
-
Awesome !!!!!! I'm officially jealous on that one.

Ya sure have a legacy in the musky world. Just don't know how you can quit, you haven't caught a 60 yet. LOL. Sure hope we continue having our own little GTG for years to come.

Where were you on September 11th 2001 at 08:30?
Rich Clemens replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I was in a meeting at work. After a while one of the other employees stopped in and said something like. "You guys have no idea what's going on, do you ?" Thus ended the meeting. I had a three hour ride home that day. Very strange not seeing any jet trails at all in the sky. Hardly any traffic,on the interstate. -
When you get to the end of Wolseley Bay, there will be an island right in front of you. You can go to the left or right. Go left for five fingers. Turn right and that heads down towards Crane's Lockhaben Wilderness Lodge. Right out from Cranes, there is another set of rapids. I have seen them, but have never fished there. After making the right at this island, you can make basically a u turn and head down the North channel of the French River. A ways down, are more Rapids, but this will take a bit to get to the end. If you make the turn to head down the North Channel, be careful as you make the right to go down here. There is a shoal off the island there that does come out a ways. So, make a wide turn.

Sorry Cdog, I just retread your post and you're staying at Fish Tails. When coming down to go under the bridge, stay to you LEFT - opposite side of the Wolseley Lodge cabins, That's the deepest side. Then, after you go under the bridge on the way out - again, stay to the left. There is a large sand bar just off the public launch there at Wolseley Lodge, Seen many a bots get hung up on that bar. Stay towards the Totem Point side.

I pulled a large pike out of the whirlpool area of 5 fingers and have seen musky in area. If I recall correctly, from Wolseley lodge out to five fingers, as long as you stay away from the shorelines, you should be fine. If water levels are down, extra caution should be used - especially if you are un-sure of the route. Five fingers is a popular spot, and there have been many times I went out there, only to find a couple boats already in the area. On the way out, just before you make the final left turn to go back towoards five fingers, there is a large rock sticking out of the water on your right. Going out, stay to the LEFT of this rock. There is a large shoal there on the right hand side and it comes a long way out from th shore. so be sure to stay out quite a ways. If you find the shoal I am talking about, cast it. , but be extremely careful, especially if the water is down - I trim my engine up, just in case when I am fishing it. . I've raised a few Muskies in that area. Good luck and let us know how you make out That area is not mapped and no depth charts I am aware of. If you are staying at Wolseley long, Harold will give you a map. His gives you basic shoreline details, but still no depths. At least, he used to give one to his guests. Some years back, there was a musky fisherman from Ohio there when we were. Watched him land a 50 in the bay. He fished the bay all week, never left the bay itself, and boated about 6 or 7 muskies that week. All good, size too - so,you don't have to go far. Rich

I've been hearing that as well, with the musky bite being very slow this year for some reason up there. We had some very close friends up at Memquisit during the month of August - and other than a few follows ...... No takers. Hope the weather starting to cool down a bit here, will change things up a bit. We're heading to Memquisit for a week this coming Saturday and follow that up with a week on the French River. Been very slow for us the past couple years. Last year, three weeks up in that area and only one 40" Class fish. Typically we do better than that. We shall see.

I would have to say that most of my hits are very close to the boat. Much higher percentage than the ski taking the bait during the actual retrieve. Even after the 8, when it seems the fish has moved on, I will continue the 8 for a little while, as she may just still be hanging around, just our of site. This has proved fruitful on a few occasions.
-
I used the open faced reels for many years. Couple years ago I bought my first baitcaster. Since, then, I have purchased a second set-up. To me, it seems that I have much better control over my bait with the baitcaster during the retrieve and figure 8
-
Or, you are doing a nice figure 8 at the front of the boat. She is a little interested and makes a couple passes by your lure. Then she leaves your bait, swims to the back of the boat and smashes your wife's bait. That's how Patsy caught her 49 some years back. Thanks Honey ..... Sure, no problem.
-
And all the times you perform your figure-8, see nothing. Then as soon as you lift the lure out of the water .... she swims right on by. :wallbash:

We'll be at Memquisit from September 10 thru the 17th. We got the little two B/R cabin right there next to the laundry. I believe this used to be the crew's area. I used to go to Wolseley, but have not been back for several years now. I k now there are big fish there, and I have seen a few. But, for the years we went there, my wife and I NEVER landed a musky. Don't understand it, but that's the way it was.
-
We'll be at Memquisit in September - first time for us there. Hope things are improved a bit. Then we'll follow,up,hat week, with a week on the lower French as well. Hopefully the levels are not too low by then.
-
Ya know Lew. I am in the same boat (well, if you still had one) that you were in. I only use mine 3 weeks out of a year - 1 week in June and 2 weeks in September. And all the weeks are up on Nippissing and the French river. Each trip, I tow it back and forth. Might be kinda nice someday to not have to worry abut that. There may come a day here soon when I make the same call. You know that when we are together, you are more than welcome to share a seat, any time. That is, if we ever get out of the chairs and actually do some fishing. LOL Heck, when we're together in June, you can just take it yourself. One rule though - nothing larger than 49", until I get my 50. LOL.
-
You did it ... You really did it. But, even if you rent a boat, I'll still be out fished. Good luck when you head back up to Memquisit. Hope you get another 50+.
-
I really need to STOP Musky fishing and start Walleye fishing. Geez !!! Congrats. That one may be a little tough to beat.
-
Those are some real fatties. At least I'm not the only one skunked so far. Attaboy Pete. Congrats.

We have also exchanged US for Canadian funds at local banks and never had an issue. Some places may want some form of ID, so I just take along my passport. You should have no issue doing this. Many lodges accept US currency and give a fair exchange as well. Good luck
-
Duty free is the only one directly along your route. Used to be one along the QEW at St Catherine's, but I think it has closed down. Maybe someone else knows for sure. Canadian banks will exchange currency and you may get a little better rate than duty free. Unfortunately, duty free in the US side has limited parking if you are towing a boat. Couple times in the past, I could find no parking and went on to St Catherine's. I have been buying my Canadian fishing licenses online as Art suggested. I print off a couple copies, in case one gets lost or damaged. I keep en extra copy in the boat and one in the truck. Also save off a copy as a PDF and have it in my email - Just in case. Maybe overkill, but I dont want to have to buy another one
