  1. Years ago I fished Island Lake all I got was perch and weeds. I see last year the level of water was really down .There is a lot of stumps in the west end by the road. They say a lot of good sized pike and bass are caught.Maybe they will chomp down on the perch and the fishing will be better.I used to catch specks back in the east end in the original lake ,but that was a long time ago. Good luck on opening .
  2. Brookies. Doesn"t anyone fish brookies .I love fishing these small tasty fish.I am like the old guys on Grumpy old men .Me my bud in the old tinny spending the afternoon fishing whatever happens to bite my worm. I have fished big water with my down riggers and now that I am older I go for quality time with anyone who wants to spend an afternoon with a yappy old phart . Good luck on the steelies guys .Been there done that.
  3. Great report .Bullheads are not bad eating .Hope your friend's foot doesn't get infected.
  4. Hi guys. I guess not too many fellas will be comeing up to my small cabin up near Tobermory fishing this summer .Because I got lots of them.I swear that every rock or hole back of the lot has a rattler on or in them. Anyway the bruce penninsula has the best snakes.I don't mind them But I hate water snakes they always want into my boat.
  5. Neat show .Had a brother in law do it many years ago .The pole slipped out of his hand with a fish on and he jumped in after it an managed to catch it before it was gone . He crawled back into the boat landed the walleye and tormented us with it's size and promptly let it go.He only fishes but doesn't eat them.
  6. Had to participate Grandson who is five had to tell his teacher all about it .We turned out all the lights got some camping stuff Lights and checked them out before the season starts .Watched videos with the battery box and inverter and had a great time with the wee fellow. What cost was there ? None but a good time with the little guy.
  7. Hi guys.Has anyone tried old Cronzy's fishing batter mix.Been fifty years mixing it .Might be kind of crusty by now .I like the old mixes of flour salt spices crumbs and beer. Dont forget the hot oil and beans.Like watching old Cronz Hate his old reruns .Seen one run eight times in a row over a few weeks .He talks in his rants about taking kids out fishing .But he never takes any out .He takes out his old buds or the lodge owner who supplies him with a free or cut rate to push their lodge.
  8. Yes I kissed a walleye last fall .Went fishing last fall participated in the derby by myself.Couldn't find any fishing buddys for the weekend .I am a yappy sort of fellow , the fish looked at me I looked at him .Told him it was his lucky day .Gave him a kiss, threw him back in the water .and went back to work on my cabin. Tried fish crisp too salty. Have to cut it with beer. One for me and one shot for the batter.
  9. Ok guys I am going to reveal my age .Back in the old days about 40 years ago I fished the Humber had many favourite spots . But they are now posted and all the old holes are silted and the fish are scarce. When we were younger the private ponds were our favourite spots but one had to watch for poppers and one was expected to run fast or get caught. The grand had a small sewage spill a few weeks ago at Grand valley according to the Orangeville paper. I would say fish north of Grand valley. The river is shallow in the summer but a few bass can be caught. I have not tried fishing the grand for at least 10 or more years. I live now in Flesherton on the Boyne river a trib of the Beaver. Lots of specks ,down river browns and to the bay rainbow. What does an old phart Retired do all summer ? Fish Drink Beer . How's that for a rant?
  10. This is not good. How does one spend his quiet time out in the old cabin or back house than flipping through the old Canadian Tire catalogue .Doesn't matter how old or wheather the season is winter or summer it passes the time . Great decisions are made in the solitude of of these pages. Can't take a computer with one to the lake.
  11. Guys Retirement is great . Fish all summer,do a little gardening and generally having a good time. I retired really young and except getting caught to do a few chores around home life is good. You might think this is too good to be true but when I don't have time to go up to my cabin at Miller Lake I will jump on the old riding mower with my fishing pole stop at the old compost pile grab a few red wigglers and proceed down to the creek to my favourite lawn chair and catch a few speckies for supper. Winter is different though the neighbours catch me to do a few jobs. Bit of pin money for fishing toys.
  12. Hi not sure if all the ice is out in owen sound . A couple of weeks ago a icebreaker came into owen sound to shake up the ice and begin the shipping season.
