I have a Legend 16 Xcalibur. Thanks for all the replies everyone, going to check those all out. And sorry its for Musky.

Looking for a rod holder for trolling. Dont have any kind of rail mount on my boat.
-
last time I put my own braid on I ended up with a mess, I think I put it on to tight and the line ended up digging into itself and then caused casting problems. I just get basspro to do it now, its free, you can even bring in your old spooled line, you dont even need to purchase line. They put the backing on as well. Never have problems when their machine does it.

Thanks, yeah it does start around pier 69. Ya that was my concern, that the water can kick up good, probably wont venture that far by the responses here, seems the fishing is good without going far. Thanks, your talking about the channel above green island?
-
I dont feel so bad as I work this weekend. But the wind was howling in york region today, couldnt imagine it on the water.
-
16', which is why I dont want to venture to far, rather stay in protected areas. Just trying to have an idea of where to go, never been there before. no this is a for fun derby, not some series. Thanks, ill stick in the waubaushene area then. I checked out navionics and the north side of the area looks very rocky. Is it a better bet to go to the south side bays? Northwest of potatoe island looks like a crazy amount of rocks on navionics.

There's a pike derby derby coming up in waubeneshe and Ive never fished pike on Georgian bay. I was wondering if it's reasonable to boat from the launch near waubeneshe and then boat towards honey harbour area or if that's to far and I should look at other areas closer. Not sure if I should look north or south either, seems like good bays on both north and south.

Mild Gas Fume smell normal in aft storage?
Tjames09 replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
I have no idea. The vent I pictured above is the exterior vent the boat has. the Attwood one. I have noticed it changes when the temperature changes, when it got really cool it smelt again. Theres three tubes that go into the tank: one large one for fill, one that goes from the tank to the motor, and one that goes to vent on the side of the boat. and then there's an electrical gauge for the fuel meter. -
Mild Gas Fume smell normal in aft storage?
Tjames09 replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Ya its weird. So I opened everything up, and the smell went away, and was gone for a few days. Now today, I haven't moved anything, kept everything open, but there's a bit of smell again. Its almost like something is periodically emitting a bit of a smell, but then it goes away. The only thing I havent done yet is tighten down all the clamps on the hoses, but I dont think that will matter. -

This may seem like a silly question, but can this vent be opened and closed? -
Mild Gas Fume smell normal in aft storage?
Tjames09 replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Do you mean the vent tube on the exterior starboard side of the boat? the little screw cap? Is this system okay to be run through gas? Thanks for the advice though, should I be checking any mechanic or just marine. -
As you are probably aware I recently purchased a new to me Legend 16 xcalibur. The boat is in immaculate shape and wasn't used much by the previous owner. I never noticed any smells when I checked the boat out or when we test it on the waters. After trailering the boat home I noticed that the aft starboard side storage has a gas fume scent (the side the gas vent is on as well). The gas vent itself doesnt smell, just inside the storage. there isnt any tubes or anything in the storage, so Im not sure why it smells (just the anchor and some ropes). The actual aft transom area of the boat doesnt smell, and the entire floor in where the gas tank is is dry. I put my hand everywhere on the inside to make sure gas wasnt leaking, but the entire aft where the tank is dry, and both the storage compartments are also dry. So I dont think gas is leaking. All the tubes and connections look good, and nothing is rotted or worn. Im somewhat concerned why there would be a fume smell, Ive read that older plastic onboard tank can emit a bit of an odor, the boat is 2011. Im fairly certain theres no leak, but Im thinking its something like a weak connection somewhere causing a bit of a fume leak. I called a bunch of marinas but everyone's slammed and booking like 3 weeks out now, which is fair considering its the beginning of the year. Im not sure if anyone on here can help, or offer some assistance. I dont know enough to start really tinkering around.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Just ordered 5. They had lots of flag ones, but not the flag I wanted

I had the boat on Balsam today, I had readings of 54*F in the shallow areas.

New Humminbird compatible with old transducer and power?
Tjames09 replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
I talked to Humminbird, they said it works no issue. I had it out today, found the DI kind of grainy though, not very crisp. Could be the default settings, not sure yet. It didnt really seem to show a nice "tree" like you get in their promo lol. -
New Humminbird compatible with old transducer and power?
Tjames09 replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, I dont want to network them. I want to use the cables already on the boat rigged up in the console. I dont want to re run all the wires for power and transducer when they are already there. I want to know if the old power and old transducer will work fine with my new unit. -
I bought a Helix 7 DI/GPS today to replace the Humminbird 587CI DI unit on my new boat. The power supply cord turned the unit on, but wondering if the power supply and transducer already wired on the boat will work with the new unit. The old unit was down imaging, and the new unit is also down imaging. I compared the transducer side by side and the look near identical. I would rather not re run all the wires if it doesnt need to be.

I did buy a boat! I went with the Legend I had mentioned before. Its a 16 Xcalibur with a 60HP bigfoot. Had everything we were looking for: windshield, rear bench, good beam (82"), 16.5 foot, trolling motor, included the bicycle seats front and back, has full Bimini, and the previous owner had it garage stored and it looked brand new. And the price was below my budget which helped. We did a water test and we were cruising at 36MPH with three people in the boat and full tank of gas. We looked at a bunch of used boats in person and a lot of them were trashed inside and out, tons of dock rash, carpet needing replacing, floors feeling soft, etc. Its not Pete, haha. Ive been out with Pete before, great guy and knows his Muskies.

So I was looking at getting a guide for the beginning of the year. And Most guides operate solo, and its usually pretty upfront they are such (you're paying to hire the specific person, not the business really). I was in contact with the owner of a business and booked a guided trip with him as he is reputable as a good guide and I was looking to hire him specifically. Once I settled the booking, he advised me my guide would be "so and so". I was kind of shocked, and didnt know what to say, other than who is "so and so" (I thought he operated a solo business). He advised he's taking the year off guiding and has hired assistants or subcontracts if you will. I feel awkward cancelling, as I have no idea who the other person is and I was looking for the specific person I was talking to as they are very reputable at being a good guide. The pricing is still the same as if it was the owner as well. Now no money was exchanged and I havent lost my time, but I feel a little duped into making the booking, and there's a mild commitment on my behalf to follow through. I think if a business that uses the person as the service such as guiding fishing trips (IE your booking with a specific person because they're known to be good at fishing) then they need to be up front saying "hey, you're not booking with me, I'm taking a break, but I've found someone else whose going to be filling in". Anyways, guess this is just a rant and really nothing more.

I think the old rebel 1625 is the same as the new fury xl 1625, which can be had for around 22+fees and tax. Either way, I havent seen any boats in that price range with that specs yet, anything down in that price range ive seen has been junk

Oh wow, okay, I will steer clear of this Tracker. Dont need any headaches. I should probably add its not 4 adults. Its two adults (well one is my wife), and 2 small kids, maybe some of the time ( nieces and nephew). Mainly its just me and my wife.
-
Not sure what a black anchor is. Theres a 2004 Tracker Targa listed with a 115. Its a 17.5' boat. Little older than I was looking, but has the size and space Id need, and the price is right. I know people arent crazy on tracker, or mercury lol. This has both.

Thanks guys. Seems a lot of manufacturers put 60hp motors on boats of similar size, I guess Ill run into this issue regardless of brand. I was looking at a new smokercraft 161 xl (the 90" beam), and it also only had a 60hp motor. Its a bigger boat with same engine.

I believe the max is 90hp, so 60 is 75%.
