Looks like a fun day.

No not that. I said "susprize not delight!! Hit a local fishing hole around noon today targeting sunnies & rock bass for a little fun. When I arrived a father-son combo were fishing the area. As there was lots of room I joined in the fishing. They told me they had a very large largemouth following their baits but it refused to bite. This place is not a common place for large bass mostly small to medium sized at best. I was using my light fishing set-up of a Daiwa Shock 5 1/2' combo. loaded with 2 lb test line. I tied on a small red chatterbait type lure and started casting. On my second cast I thought I caught up on weeds when I felt a head shake. Sensing this was a good fish I played it easy. Here's the result. A 19 1/2" smallmouth. They were sure this was the same fish the seen earlier. The father even ran up to my car to retrieve my camera for me so his son could take the picture. I was not expecting catching anything big enough to bother bringing the camera down to the hole. Best Wishes: Rick BTW: The fish was released to fight another day.

I'm looking for recommendations for a campground reasonably close to the southern part of Mississauga. Looking for a site for a tent for 5-6 Sep. 08 while attending a course at St. John Ambulance in Mississauga. Reasonably quiet with toilets & shower will meet my needs. Thanks: Rick

I have to agree completely. Both my Wood's and Coleman tents are quite waterproof. Last year I bought a Escort tent. The seams along the floor are stitched upside down. This allows any rain water to run down the sides on the tent and collect in the pocket created by the seam. No amount of seam sealer will keep the water from leaking into the tent. Now add a week of camping with the wife (her first time camping) and 2 dogs that rained every day and at times quite heavily. Not a pretty sight. :blahblah1:

Cool Jel - For minor burns. ASA (aka Aspirin) - For chest pain related to heart problems. Sunblock - minimum 30 SBF.

You may be able to find suitable baits in the frozen fish section at Food Basic's.

On the other end of the rush? I'm heading to Kingston tomorrow morning for my military units reunion. Hoping to pass through after the main rush has expired. I fished the area last summer. Quite shallow in the bay (6'-8'). Weeds will reach the almost to the surface in most spots. Makes trolling very tough. Most walleye will have moved to deeper water. Fish the creek channels on the south side of the bay for pike & bass. Top water baits or shallow baits should work. Early morning until about 10 am seemed best. For the kids drifting around the hole under the highway bridge with worms or minnows will produce panfish, catfish and sheaphead (freshwater drum). If you head out of the bay and stay north of the islands at the mouth of the bay, drifting in 12'-15' will produce a mixed bag but be prepared to raise your lines for the many thick wed beds. Welcome to the fourm OnTheWater. One problem you will most likely find is that very few places rent cottages for long weekends in August. During this time of the year cottage rentals are usually Sat. to Sat.(full week only). If you can wait until after the Labour Day weekend than you should be able to find a cottage to rent for a weekend. Good Luck: Rick

A couple weeks ago I checked out a couple of local Dollaramas. In Woodstock I found a few Storm jigs. In Stratford nothing.

As vance stated you don't need a pleasure operators card for a rental boat. The renters will check you out & give you a checklist which you must carry on the boat. GBW's quotes are correct but only part of the regulations. Best Wishes: Rick

I will be staying at the campground 1-3 Aug. to attend my military regiments 125th reunion. Has anyone stayed here before & what was it like. How is the shore/wading fishing there? I should be able to get out in the mornings for a couple hours. Best Wishes: Rick

Take it to a tire shop & have the pros fix it. Around here a tire repair is about $20. Have them mark the valve stem location and reinstall in the same location so balancing is not required. Another option is to have them remove the object & insert a tube. Good Luck: Rick

Wrong. A Pleasure Craft Operators Card is only one of 3 proof of competency. The others are, proof of having completed a boating safety course in Canada prior to April 1, 1999 or A completed rental boat safety checklist (for power-driven vessels). Wrong. This part doesn't apply to rental boats from a resort. Sinker you are correct that a card is not required but it has nothing to do with the length. By the way it is 4 metres that trigger a need for a card for non rental boats. Age also plays a factor. After Sep. 14, 2009 age will also no longer play a role. As a renter of a boat from a resort he will receive a "completed rental boat safety checklist (for power-driven vessels) which will be required to be carried on the boat as his proof of competency.
