  1. By the sounds of it on VHF, we were doing better than lots of bigger boats
  2. Out the door at 5 30, on the water just after 6. Fairly strong east winds were blowing for a good part of the morning, but was managable. After a slow start, I was finally into my first fish. He took a flasher/herring combo, and he weighed in at 26 pounds! After some smaller fish, and a few good sized fish lost, we managed to land another large salmon. This time, the scale read 27 pounds, 15 ounces. We seriously considered taking it to the weigh scales, but guessed that it would fall just short. Regardless, a great fish and the biggest of the season thus far. At one point, he had 540 feet of line out! He was taken on a black/crushed ice Rac, which popped 3 fish today! At the end of the day were 7 for 9. 28 lbs 26 lbs 18 lbs two around 12 lbs 6 lbs 1 lbs A day well spent
  3. I own a high end Daiwa baitcaster, and it is a very nice reel. I've always been impressed with their stuff.
  4. GOOD FISH! I've been out four times in the past 5 days and hooked at least 7 fish every time. This morning I was out off of Bowmanville, and went 7 for 9 with 4 rainbows and 3 chinook. The biggest chinook was about 13 and the biggest bow was about 9. The biggest chinook I've landed thus far has been 26, but a few more twenty plus fish have been boated as well. Lake O has been very good to me recently!
  5. wow, that was an awesome read! Thanks for supplying me with dreams.
  6. I have 0 interest in keeping spawning trout, but I do enjoy keeping them out on the lake. Good on them for dropping the limit.
  7. Go to Simcoe. Virginia Beach area has copious amounts of perch.
  8. I can't wait to get back out there!
  9. I heard they hit flies pretty good. Do they fight good? My creek's closed right now, but on the opener, if there's no bows around, I wouldnt mind a shot at some of them.
  10. I'd say that musky just died of old age.
  11. Suckers. The creek close to my house is full of them as well.
  12. Wow, what a beauty of a boat!
  13. Were you right around the ferry? There was a few boats around there. And yes, the water temp made ALL the difference.
  14. Considering this was my first time ever targeting perch, things went pretty well. We launched out of Georgina, and head out to 20-30 feet mark in the main lake, with ice not very far away, and marked a few, but no takers. The lake water was about 36 degrees. We kept searching, and searching with absolutely no luck, until we decided to hit up a north facing shoreline with lots of weeds. The water was 45 degrees there. Our first 2 casts resulted in two jumbos! For the next 2 hours (approx.) action was very consistent, with all fish being caught on flourescent tubes/twisters rigged with just enough weight to get to the bottom. I'd guess around 40 fish were caught, ten being jumbos. It was an excellent day, with the biggest perch around 1.75 pounds, I'd say!
  15. Due to endangerment of so many different types of frogs, I don't use them either.
  16. I will be participating.
  17. You obviously don't fish Lake Ontario very much... They're extremely common on Salmon. I see Chinooks with 2 lampreys on them at the same time quite often.
  18. Were you pier fishing?
  19. I really wish I was old enough to enjoy that season!
  20. I am very envious of you. I have yet to go on a northern ice fishing excursion. Oh, how I despise southern ontario
  21. I'll stick with a bait for longer than lots of people.
  22. But back on topic, that is one incredible machine!
  23. I see your point. I don't mean to sound like a nag, but climate change is greatly affected by deforestation, whether you believe it or not. I'm a strong believer in protecting our woodlands, and for me this means smarter use of timber.
  24. This is very true. I remember once out on Lake Ontario, we were getting bit really good on a RAC spoon that we only had one of. It was about the 5th hit and I just took the rod out of the holder and went to set the hook and lost everything! Didn't catch another fish the rest of the day!
