  1. Sounds like the OP is in the same boat as me!! I picked up an Abu Garcia Record RCN60 lastnight off Ebay, probably going to go with a 8" Shimano Compre rod. Assortment of used Suicks/Cisco kids/bucktails and 1 Butcher Top Raider. I need to pick up some release tools before I hit the water also. From what I've read and the advice I've got on here, most likely going with 50-65lb Spiderwire Ultracast for my baitcasting setup. My oldman has some nice trolling setups from our salmon days out on Lake Ontario, those should take care of any trolling we will be doing. Read as much as you can and maybe land yourself in an empty seat on a boat with a seasoned vet. Good luck!
  2. Do yourself a favour and drive to Simcoe, you'll most likely make out better. Atleast you can just follow everyone else out there..
  3. I just got some Suicks and Cisco kids in the mail Time to pick up some big spinnerbaits and some bucktails!! (slowly builds muskie tacklebox)
  4. I am sure if I ask my oldman to, he'd promptly tell me to go (insert expletive here) myself
  5. Appreciate the help Marc. I'll make sure to empty out the spool and re-spool while on the water. Is it June yet?
  6. A website with online ordering system doesn't even have close to the overhead it used to. There are out of the box solutions that could have them setup in a week. There is no excuse for an outdated/non up to date website, not with todays extremely low cost solutions.
  7. See these are the little tips I'd never know unless I asked Thanks guys!
  8. Ohhh.. I think the oldmans boat needs some OFC stickers...
  9. Irish/Marc, Do you guys use a mono backing? I've read on many sites that most people run some mono backing just to cover up the spool, then switch over to braid. Also, what type of leaders should a newbie be looking at? I'm probably not up to making my own flouro leaders yet, but anything good I can pick up at Bass Pro or perhaps via the Internet? -Bill
  10. Hell, it could be me I had to cut out the last 2 backlashes I got with braid (20lb) while up at the French last year. I am going to be running 50 or 65lb Spiderwire Stealth this year on my muskie setup, we'll see how that turns out
  11. It's funny you say that, after years of baitcasting with mono, then switching to braid I would say the exact opposite. The way braid digs in make it almost impossible to get out sometimes. (It's happened to me 2-3 times)
  12. *cough* pickeral *cough*
  13. I was talking to Grant yesterday at Bass Pro, he suggested suspended huskie jerks should be a good idea. Monday looks like some decent weather, I think I might head down to Ontario Place after work...
  14. Add me to that list... I always buy XL's... Perhaps I should start buying L's...
  15. Yeah, you can't beat the price point. I'll be down in Florida for 2 weeks at the end of March, I'll see if I can find a Induron IDx-400a or the 250a and see what they're like in person.
  16. BMO canceled my card a few weeks back due to there being a security hazard. Luckily I had cash on me when I went to buy lunch Extremely unprofessional if you ask me.. Canceling the card at 10am and leaving me a voicemail at 2pm later in the afternoon, lol.
  17. My oldmans runs a 15ft Legend with a 40HP 4-stroke Honda. Perfect combination. I see about 35-37mph on the GPS flatout.
  18. I ended up at Bass Pro today after work (go figure, lol) to bad Bass Pro doesn't stock the Okuma's I was looking at, instead I looked at the Abu Garcia C3 and C4.. The one thing I really dislike about those reels is a lack of a thumb trigger. I can't stand the trigger up on the reel housing. The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Record was extremely nice.. Smooth as butter and had the thumb trigger I like. The reviews on the Record are also really good, completely different league then the C3/C4. I don't mind spending $$$ on a reel, I'd rather buy it once then two or three times...
  19. Grant, nice bumping into you at Bass Pro today!!! I hope you found that lucky lure Good luck with your last trip to BOQ. When you get back we'll have to hit Lake Ontario for some 'Urban fishing'
  20. When does the big sale start? I thought it was sometime in March?
  21. I'll most likely be fishing after work during the week if anything.
  22. How did he plan on driving that car in Canada? It hasn't passed any of our bumper laws and isn't certified to drive on our roads.. Unless he was going to register it as a show car and only drive it 2000km's a year or less. He'd never get it legally registered here. (Unless we are talking about a older GTO, if so disregard my post )
  23. I'm done at 4pm Monday-Friday and just want to wet a line, I couldn't care what I catch (or don't catch). Just getting the baitcaster back in my hands will be good enough!!! If anyone wants to meet up, just tell me where and when
  24. Can anyone drop some hints as to where I can wet a line from shore? I don't think I'll be dragging the boat down to work anytime soon.
  25. I've never fished there, but if anyone needs some company let me know!!! (I work 401/Dixie not to far away)
