Is startup up a big concern for people sidecasting anyhow? I could see if you were using the Wallis cast, but for sidecasting it seems like a moot point.
I also think the differences between a decent reel and a top end reel (AngSpec) would only be noticed by someone who really puts their equipment through the ringer.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love a little bling bling of an AngSpec reel out on the river, but would it actually help me over my budget Streamside?
Maybe Mike can chime in and give some insight.
This is another awesome vid. Listen to it when he does the flyby.. Sounds like a jet!

I dunno why, but I really noticed this while I was down in the US fishing for steel with Solo. Anytime I'd hook a fish I'd say "There we go!" I have a feeling I say this all the time! I think Cliff can also confirm this. BTW, Cliff doesn't say a thing when he hooks into one, he's like Chuck Norris
When I release fish I usually call them sweetheart if it's a hen or 'big guy' if it's a male... I think there is something wrong with me.
Steve, I can't say that I have done any blue zone fishing, unfortunately. I was just trying to compare these trout, to say muskie. Ski's also take quite a while to revive, but they do eventually swim away. Maybe I was assuming some people just didn't want to take the time to revive the fish and just kept them instead...
Yeah, I really don't believe the whole 'Well we couldn't revive them so we just eat them' theory...
Take a little extra time, revive the fish and let it go.
No one needs 5 fish. Personally I think that the limit in the lake should be 2, and every trib should be no kill for certain parts of the season.
But that's just me.
Really like the Compre, makes tossing those big baits so much easier. I also had a 6'9 Compre XH jerkbait rod and found that I could do everything with the 8'.
Really nice for figure 8's, you can really vary the depth with a long stick like that.(Not like I even got a wiff of a muskie on my setup, I caught my only muskie this year fishing for bass )
You are more them welcome to give it a shot for a few days, maybe even on some pike up at the camp? :)
Mike, I am far from a muskie guy, but I tossed a lot of big baits(10" weighted Suicks, DC10's, etc) for those fish this summer with a Record 60 and a 8' Shimano Compre..
Loved the reel, not a single problem with it.
I was out on Little Lake last year with them netting 'skis for a day. No muskies, but man does Little Lake have some monster crappies!!!!!!
Was a bit cold, but definitely a fun day.
Mike, that's a wicked video man. What do you think those fish rising on the Elk were doing? Seemed to be quite a few of them breaking the surface...
I'm getting the itch again, lol
It's only line. Put the lure infront of a hungry fish and you could be using rope and it wouldn't make much of a difference..
Visibility under the water isn't really a concern, I worry more about knot strength and the ability to get out giant birds nests :)
