  1. Joey, I am sure Wayne call's his a 'bro' :)
  2. I've had 4-5 cups since it started, haven't won a thing.
  3. Wayne, that's awesome man!!!
  4. Braid definitely holds water... If it's below zero, I wouldn't be using it. BTW if you are steelhead fishing, try to keep your line out of the water as much as possible when trotting your float. I always tend to get frozen eyes also, when my buddies aren't. Nothing but inexperience on my part, lol. Although I have seen some guys use a bit of vaseline on the first 20ft or so of line, might wanna try it out.
  5. Personally if I'm fishing the thick stuff, the less I have to worry about my rig the better. Attaching a flouro leader is just another point of failure... I would worry more about lure presentation and fish location then the line, just my 2 cents... Don't over complicate a relatively simple thing... I use everyday 4lb mono in gin clear trout water and have nailed some nice fish, I'm talking 4-5ft of vis in some pools...
  6. Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
  7. A little off topic question for the carp guys... Do any of your fav shops carry Drennan mono? I've noticed that it's quite popular across the pond for carp. I'd love to rig up my centerpin with it, but have had zero luck finding any...
  8. Ah, that's good to hear Mike, mud on the driveshafts and suspension bits can have some weird effects.
  9. I wouldn't say that... A moment of not paying attention can have very bad effects.
  10. Thanks man!!!
  11. It was about 5-6 degrees all day, only cooled down near the end. Definitely not a bad day to be hiking for some steel.
  12. That last pool was a nice relief, I just wanted to get that skunk off my back. I can't believe I didn't pick one up in the other hole about 20mins beforehand... We were hooking up pretty much every drift, I think we pulled out 6 or 7 fish..I know Ferg and I had a few double headers, then you chimed in and made it a triple!! lol I still dunno how you got that fish up the ice shelf. I am really looking forward to fishing the first spot we got the truck all dirty at Talk about picturesque..... Ferg was nice enough to grab a quick pic of the devirginizing of my reel..
  13. It's also great for lining steelhead when they aren't in the mood to eat Encountered more lined steelies yesterday then genuinely hooked ones...
  14. I was thinking more of the Lake Huron/GBay fish
  15. Didn't stocking actually lead to a pretty big decline in stock? Trying to mix and match different strains etc etc. Perhaps the MNR did more harm then good trying to mess with genetics. I am sure the cormorants and a million other contributing factors had something to do with it, lol
  16. When you strip the fly in, you aren't using the reel like you would with a baitcast or spinning setup. You gotta put the line somewhere! lol First off she was most likely fishing for trout which are extremely spooky. I've had to crawl up to some pools when the water is gin clear in order not to spook fish (Even when I do, I see the odd monster spec swim out of the riffle and into the wood). Also, unless you are rollcasting, you need to make a few false casts in order to get the right amount of line out. False casts over the water does spook the fish, she was most likely trying to avoid that. People do, but it's a lot more fun by using your hand Depending on what you are fishing for, you cannot present the bait any better then with a flyrod.. It's also a purist sport, the bare minimums.. You should try it, you might be able to answer that all by yourself BTW, I'm a complete rube at flyfishing, but it's a fun way to spend the day.
  17. I've had to cut a few birdnests out I've had with braid. It cuts down into the spool so tightly that you sometimes have no choice. I doubt you'd encounter this pitching, especially tossing the bait 15ft...
  18. Check the back of the card? Or check their website?
  19. Oh man!!! I don't mind a little enthusiasm, I guess that particular part of the BMC irked me a bit Perhaps this year we can scare some people by screaming and yelling on Simcoe? Giant smallies bring out the best in me! lol
  20. I have an Abu Garcia Record 60 I use for tossing big muskie and pike baits. Absolutely love it, no hints of any problems yet... I think you do have to get pretty high up in their line to receive a quality product though... Although my oldman still swears on his old C4 spinning reel.
  21. Clinch knot
  22. Hit up Honeymoon Island State Park with 3 dozen shrimp and some jigs... Make sure you are fishing the main channel by the change rooms. You really can't miss it. My oldman and I catch all sorts of fish there... pomps, whiting, mackerel, seatrout, small bonnethead sharks, ladyfish, permit, etc etc. $5 fee at the gate.. It's cheap compared to any charter and there are always fish.
  23. My turn to man the camera this time!!!! Good job Dave!
  24. I use the palomar with braid, but never with mono... I can't tell you why really, lol
  25. I haven't lost a steelie due to a failed knot yet, I'll stick with my improved clinch It's also very easy to tie with frozen fingers..
