  1. Stoty, nice boat man!! Trade in the Xtreme for a ZR2 Should take care of any 4x4 issues you'll ever have, lol
  2. Hey Tom, Sorry if my comment rubbed you the wrong way, it was never my intent to insult anyone's home waters. From what I've seen first hand, there is a great difference between a stocked non self sustaining stateside fish and a wild reproducing GBay or Lake O fish. I guess I shouldn't have grouped all stateside fish in one group, because I'm sure you know as well as I do there is a big difference between a fish from say the Catt compared to a few well know rivers down in PA... It's not just my first hand experience, I'll let the genetics of the fish speak for themselves. Do I feel bad taking roe from a stocked fish that will never successfully reproduce? Nope. Would I feel bad if I was taking roe from a fish that had a very good chance of successfully reproducing on either the US or Canadian side? You bet. I hope my original reply didn't provoke thoughts of a person running down the banks slitting fish open and stealing roe On a few occasions I used my state limit and bagged a couple of hens, also a couple of shakers for my oldmans plate.
  3. The float rod is been officially put away, unless I get a real urge to use it again Definitely looking forward to breaking out the flyrod and the UL outfit. I'd like to add that ALL my roe has been taken from stateside fish. Nothing from any Ontario tribs.
  4. Yup, Tom has salmon and rainbow roe. I have gotten a few hens this year that were stuffed full!
  5. Go catch a crap load of big creek chubs, or get your hands on some frozen smelt. Nothing beats dead bait in the spring for pike.
  6. We got some wicked wind down here, my parents also had a few trees down in Coldwater. How badly did you get it up there Wayne? The clouds were moving awful fast..
  7. Everytime I've been there after I purchased mine they were still $199. They have boxes of them below the chest packs and all along that wall. Dunno how much of a selection they have now though.
  8. I have used quarter/looney sized bags since December, lol... Clear, dirty, didn't really matter. The stink trail they put out is great. If you are fishing dropbacks, you want as big of a scent trail as possible.
  9. You probably won't, it's last years stock. There is a whole pile of them in the flyshop at Vaughn Mills.
  10. Simms Riverteks at BPS $199. Won't find a better wader for the price. I used them extensively this year for steelies and absolutely loved them.
  11. I picked up a cheap Temple Forks 2pc 8' 4wt setup last year from BPS. Came all rigged and ready to go. I'm sure it's not the greatest out there, but it's been fine for me. I have landed exactly one fish on it since I started, but I hope to change that this year, lol.
  12. Dave, flyfishing for me almost reminds me of trying to catch steelhead in the Notty :) I was telling Mike on a recent trip about the hatch I ended up in the middle of at the end of last years season. I think they were blue winged olives, but they were everywhere. All in the span of about 45mins or so. Ran back to the car to grab the flyrod, do you think I could hook into anything? lol... Fish rising all over the place, and not one thought my presentation was good enough to take a swipe at. Flyfishing is definitely a humbling way to fish.
  13. Cheap hiking boots from Walmart A wading boot isn't anything special, maybe except for the felt. Get some small self tapping metal screws and make your own studs...
  14. I think I'm putting the float rod away for the rest of the season. Caught my fill this year for sure and really don't feel like fighting crowds to tell you the truth. The flyrod and the Ultralight will now be my weapons of choice!! Bring on the brookies!
  15. I used a pair of felt soled BPS Red head wading boots this year. Absolutely trashed them. Giant tears, they basically look like they've been through a war. I wouldn't recommend anyone to get these things.. Good luck with yours!! Hopefully my next pair are a set of Simms Guide boots.
  16. No live bait and all hooks need to be single barbless(no trebles) It's gorgeous place and even if you don't catch fish, it's a treat to be out there anyhow.. I'm the exact opposite, I can't catch anything on my flyrod (although I am a newb to it) but do ok on spinning gear. UL rod, 4lb mono and some small #0 #1 spinners... Example of a nice fish I got in that area last year.
  17. I just wish our prices matched the price of gas in the US. I was down in Florida last week, $2.03 a gallon. Even with the crappy exchange rate, we'd be better off buying it down there.
  18. The one thing I like about Wayne's Verado is the fact that you need to look at the rpm gauge to figure out if it's running. Silent engine, pretty cool...
  19. I think the only person that might get fooled by that is Ray Charles..
  20. Aren't some of these new big HP engines getting great mileage when they aren't WFO compared to the old oil burners of the past? Just because it has 300hp doesn't mean you need to use it all at once
  21. You forgot to tell him about the massive amounts of smoke his lawnmower will be spewing with this stuff. I wouldn't bother. Carb cleaner works fine. Or you can use the choke to keep things running until fresh gas gets in there.
  22. Ah well, the fishery is better off with it being a male Awesome fish dude!
  23. Did we ever figure out if that fish was full of roe? If so, I hope you put it in the freezer!!!
  24. My oldman will keep the old 3-4lb pike to eat, he says they are almost better then pickerel. Other then that all pike go back. Any muskie we catch are 100% catch and release.
