Some help trying to troubleshoot a Helix 7 issue
BillM replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
You're getting voltage drop. It's probably your stock wiring or a combination of the battery not being fully charged. Had the same problem in my Lund Pro Sport with my two Helix 12s. Once I did a dedicated run to the battery with lower gauge wire and installed a distribution box and ran my graphs off that my problems were solved. Do not run your graphs off the TM batteries. -
You should have no problems.

The drive up 17 is better but you'd probably have more fishing opportunities up 11 (But the drive is so frigging boring).
-
Yup, didn't see any green weeds at all.
-
Weed growth is brutal this year. The spots we fished last year on opener that still had old weed growth from the previous year were vacant this year. Nothing to keep those fish shallow.. No cover, no fish. Worst spring season I've had in a while (At least for pike) We saw bass up in a foot of water and some fish on beds the 3rd weekend in May. Water temps were high 60s in the back bays depending on the area.
-
I'd be looking for new growth or old growth in 6-12ft.
-
We were thinking the exact same thing this year, with the snowpack we had and the lack of any melt this winter the water would be up for sure. Nope, down 3ft at least lol. Gbays 10 year cycle. Hopefully this is as low as it gets.
-
Water is really low this year, you'll going to find rocks where there were no rocks last year.
-
I'd be fishing the first deep drop if you're fishing Gbay this weekend for pike. Those big girls are long gone from the shallows. If you wanna fish bigger swinbaits, definitely go with the weighted swimbait hooks, I run the Trokars, they're fantastic. Don't forget the deep husky jerks as well.

There's no room. Once you get there you'll see.
-
Launching isn't an issue, parking is. You won't find any public parking anywhere.
-
The bay just outside of the launch should have some nice cabbage growth by then. Shouldn't be hard to find a few pike there.
-
I've never switched my gps settings and whatever the default is has worked from here to Kenora just fine.
-
If you don't own units that share mapping (Like the HB Solix) you'll need a card for each graph. I run maps cards in both my Helix 12s.
-
Read the post above yours if you need to figure out the implications of the impact this has on the fishery.. It's not about being jealous people are catching more fish lol.

I'm good with FFS, what I'm not good with is guys sharpshooting. This is on the same level as guys fishing redds for steelhead in a foot of water. I don't have FFS, but if I see a fish on my side imaging, I'll make a bunch of casts if that fish doesn't engage off I go to find another one. I definitely don't sit there and circle the fish for an hour dropping 100 different baits on its head.

Itching to get down to the southern shore of Lake O!
-
Muskies in the Lower Niagara as well, someone always catching one or two during the St.Catharines Game and Fish Derby in the spring and that was in the 80s when I was a kid! It's really not surprising a few have taken up residence in the harbour.
-
Unreal as always Chris! I've got a IM6 that could use some of your craftsmanship
-
Now is the time for the southern shore. Seems to be a few weeks behind due to how cold it's been but the next month should be really heating up.
-
I usually keep my SI at 60-80ft per side. Further out you go, the more degraded the returns will be.
-
Everything after G2 has networking by default.
-
FMZ14 up to certain spots like mentioned above.
-
I use 2D sonar way more then I use DI. I use SI ALL the time to find weed edges, rock humps, etc etc. SI all the way over DI for daily fishing duties.
-
I wish I did something like this as a kid!
