  1. Wayne....I'm pretty sure that we will cross paths at least once this year I'm lookin forward to it!! I'll either be up for the Victoria Day weekend in May at Temagami Lake Lodge or for a week June 1 - 8 with some other buddies that are stayin at Rick's new place...
  2. I shoulda thrown the few I caught back in....I feel bad now for you guys headin' up I'm tryin to get a group of 4 interested in going back up again between the short trout hard water season...ya never know, I might see you up there Wayne!!
  3. All I saw was the chair and the hole .....tried puttin' my glasses on but I still couldn't see the rod
  4. yup...I got one as well!!
  5. LOL Sinker...no it wasn't me..once was enough for me!! I ended up taking the time to move the truck to the bottom of a hill and driving on with no issues...i can't believe that guy did it twice
  6. The new ones are great!! I paid a bit more than the ones at CTC ($240 including shipping + tx) but they are heavy duty and I can fold them and put them away behind the seats in the cab of my truck.....they are 7 1/2' long when opened up and they are arched so that the bike starts straightening up before it hits the back of the tailgate...each ramp comes with a ratchet strap that I attacked to the receiver of the trailer hitch on the truck..this stops the ramps from sliding out...
  7. I learned the hard way regarding the safety of using ramps!!...being the cheapo and not listening to my better half, I decided to make my own out of pressure treated wood...it seemed to work ok but the truck had to be on really level ground...last fall we were coming back from a trip and being in a hurry, I tried loading the ATV on a not too level area with a cargo container on the back of the ATV which had my deep cycle batteries in it for the trolling motor....just as the bike got to the top of the truck box it went for a 360 with me on it!! I could of very well killed myself!! I was lucky to escape with a few bruised ribs and scrapes....The front end of the bike was damaged pretty bad!! As soon as I got back home I ordered PROPER ramps and bought a new bike .....I have used them many times since then and I feel very confident using them..I orderedthe 90" long ramps...here's some pics of the ramps beside the "homemade" ones..... I bought them from Royal Distributing in Guelph and them delivered to the house.... http://www.royaldistributing.com/ShoppingC...2008%2F330.html
  8. I carry the Spyderco Bryd knife which I find is a nice light knife for your pocket. I bought my son-in-law 2 different models and he loves them!! http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/list.php?category=14

  12. Sad news! This was posted in today's Ottawa Sun newspaper! OPP divers have found the bodies of two students who were in a van that plunged through the ice covering Lake Kamaniskeg, near Barry's Bay, on Saturday. The male and female students were recovered from the submerged vehicle on Monday. Police were not releasing the names of the pair, pending notification of relatives. Four students from Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry’s Bay had been traveling in the van when it broke through the ice. Two students escaped the vehicle and swam to shore. They found a cottage and spent the night until they could go for help. Students and staff at the Catholic liberal arts college in Barry's Bay spent today praying for those involved in the tragedy. Police are continuing to investigate what caused the van to wind up on the lake.

  19. Does that ever bring back memories ...used to sit with Gramps and watch that back in the 60's..
  20. I used to drive a truck, have 7 Grandchildren, live in the country and have been known to cuss now and then ...who am I kiddin? I cuss a lot ..... I really try to watch what comes out of my mouth when the children are around but the odd time, it'll slip and Gramps will say a bad word.....I remember a time last summer when I had my 8yr old grandson in the boat and the boat anchor loosened off the rope and dropped to the bottom of the river....I screamed the Fbomb and I looked over at my grandson and he just smiled and put his hand over his mouth...I said "sorry Joe"...and he replied "that's ok Grandpa, I heard that before"....whether he heard it in school, shopping mall, wherever, at one time or another kids hear people swearing... Guys are guys, and when they get out together for a bit of fishin' they tend to cuss, fart, burp, and tell dirty jokes....When I was a young Dad, I also took my kids ice fishing....but it never even crossed my mind to take them over to a group of strange guys and fish so close to them that my children would be able to hear everything that the guys were saying
  21. We drove through Mattawa last Sunday coming back from Temagami and the river is wide open in a lot of areas that we could see driving along Hwy 17!!....we haven't really had a lot of cold weather since last week so ask around when you get up there and don't take any chances!!
  22. Nothing has started here in Ottawa other than a strong East wind ~ 35km/h....school buses are not running in anticipation of the forecasted heavy snow we're supposed to get.
  23. I guess some people like myself, didn't know where Cook Bay was and after reading the post, realized it was on Simcoe and couldn't vote because I've never fished it..
  24. Drew, here's a great link on fly tying with step-by-step instructions and pictures...My favorites are the Muddler, Sculpin Woolhead Bunny and the Crystal Egg Wooly Bugger.....Once you open the link you can scoll down and open the home page for more fly patterns...these flies have produced some really nice trout for me http://www.akflyfishers.com/fom_muddler_minnow.html Steve
