All they need to do now is put in a public launch around the Hearn Plant outflow and some parking! Accessing the inner harbor from Ashbridges Bay is possible in a smaller tin boat but you sure get wet with any kind of wave action!
-
Looking for a bigger boat already! The 14 foot tinny with the 30 was great for near shore but I really want to explore more. In the first pic you can see where I mounted the oars 'outboard' of the boat. This set up worked great! They were out of the way and didn't even move when splashed and banged around. Planning on a fall trip for about 4 or 5 days. Robert said the Brookie fishing is even better then.

Our rig for the week http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o316/sterios/nipigon%20233_zpsbkb7cfni.jpg The road in we were warned about. It was no problem at all getting in so makes me wonder if the complainers were driving in Ferraris?? http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o316/sterios/nipigon%20234_zpsc15fs5hg.jpg Saw a bunch of these guys http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o316/sterios/nipigon%20417_zpsfhaay30o.jpg Personal best Brook Trout http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o316/sterios/nipigon%20445_zpsddsyevaw.jpg Three whities all the same size in 10 feet of water! http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o316/sterios/nipigon%20259_zpsr4gnmis5.jpg All the other pics where the usual trees, rocks and water. Don't hesitate to go up the Lake Nipigon if the chance presents itself. It is a great place to camp and fish and you really feel you are 'out there'

Rob doesn't own the launch??? One funny thing happened first day. We asked if we could leave the 14 foot tinny in that little spot to the left of the ramp when you are facing it. We pulled it up and tied it off and all was good. A couple of hours later Robs dad came to the camper and told us our boat was 'pretty near sunk"!! I raced down and the boat was actually up on the rock pile between where we left it and the launch! I couldn't figure out how it got up there! There was no big outflow from the 'falls' and there was no way a big boat wake could cause it to climb up there! There was no damage and no water in the boat so I just moved it to another spot and all was good. Glad to hear you got some new water to explore Moosebunk. We are going to make this Lake a regular place to visit now and look forward to seeing more trees, rocks and water!

The trip to Lake Nipigon was great. Easy drive up along highway 11. Everything I read about that stretch from Hearst to Jellico is bang on. Very boring and numbing! Last Gas station coming from the east is Geralton and coming from the west is MacDiarmid (?). The road up to the camp is a gravel road and for the most part in great shape. We were warned along the way by three different people, one being the Tourist Info guy in Longlac, that the road was in brutal shape. That is not the case. We had no issues with it at all. The Onaman Camp is a great set up. With his solar power and windmill he seems to get along just fine up there with no hydro. Launch ramp is in good shape but don't leave your truck and trailer down there! As for the camping once we figured out you need to fire up the generator to get water pressure for the shower house and toilet we had no issues. Robert was a wealth of local info and very open and forth coming with anything you needed. I'm still not sure how he manages to troll in two feet of water to catch Brook Trout though! We put 300 km on the boat GPS fishing along the shores of Humboldt bay. Caught allot of pike in the 30 to 36 inch range with one over 40 inches. Lots of pickerel right out front of the launch ramp including a personal best of 23 1/2 inches. Worms and jigs did the trick there but allot of lost tackle on all the submerged logs. Also managed three nice white fish in about 10 feet of water out along the shore lines in the main bay. As for the brookies we only caught four but my three were all personal bests at 22 inchers and put up a great fight. Very nice looking fish. All the brook trout were caught on spinners casting into shallow water along the shore. Best bay was the one with the fire tower. I drove down and checked out Poplar Point. The camp ground looks good and they have showers and washrooms. You can't leave any boats at the launch and dock though because the seasonal campers complained it spoils their view!! The High Hills Harbor Marina is a short drive away. Good launching and docking available there but the gas pumps were out of order so fill up before getting there. This spot looked like a good place to launch to get to the Shakespeare Islands. No real issues with the whole trip except on the way back. Started smelling transmission fluid around Sudbury. Stopped and topped it up every 50 km and made it too Parry Sound where the high pressure line burst right at the transmission. Couldn't get to it to fix there so we got towed back to Toronto! Good thing partner had CAA RV Plus! only cost us 100 bucks for going over the 200 km limit. Fixed line at home for 5 bucks and didn't burn the transmission out either! Over all a great drive and fishing trip for first time up there. We are planning on a fall trip next time for around mid September. No pics at this time as they aren't ready yet but will post some soon.

I have a parasitic drain on my 98 Tahoe and I use a negative terminal disconnect from Canuck tire. You can't use your door key fob but I just unlock the door and pop the hood and a few twists of the knob power restored. Or you can take the green knob with you and truck can't be started unless they have a wrench on them.
-
Yup that's the one from Canuck Tire. It seems to work. Between every tank I filled it with water and nothing passed through. Near the end of each tank you could see the milky looking gas and I just poured that into a different can.
-
Ya still don't trust it to bring it along so its going to sit till i'm back then go into lawn mower and what not.
-
I found a water separator filter at Canuck Tire. I tried it out with water first and it actually worked and no water went through. I triple filtered most of the gas today. You could really see the milky water contaminated gas at the end. In 150 liters of gas I ended up with 15 liters of water/gas. I drove around to a few gas stations and an Esso gave me some of their water sensing paste. I tried it out on the filtered cans and two of the cans still showed some coloring on the stick so there is still some water in them. I will let them settle till we get back from Nipigon and then retest and syphon off the top gas layer. I guess I will put the salvaged gas into a boat can and take it with me along with some fresh gas in another boat can and see what happens. Thanks for all the tips.
-
Wow that is a neat item. I"m going to get one today and try and siphon off some of the gas in the cans.

Now you tell me about the electric pump!!! I have a Boston whaler with a 300 liter tank. I had a bad pick up plate gasket and with all this rain some got into the gas and stalled both motors. I've been pumping out tanks using a 12 volt pump from Princess Auto for years now! I've been looking for an alternative method for this but can't find any other way to do it. I'm looking at one of those transfer pumps you put on a barrel and just crank the handle. I figure it's shaft will fit in the opening for the tank mounted fuel gauge and try to pump out the tank that way. I know carry a red boat can with me on the Whaler just in case. Paddling that 4000 lb canoe sucks!

I'm going to buy a chamois and try that thanks.

Ya the paste I found on line is kolor Kut but I can't get it here in the GTA. I've tried getting it online and the price ranged from 6 bucks to 60 bucks for one tube. I can't find a local supplier.
-
I have about 150 liters of gas in red jerry cans that has been contaminated by water. Is there a way to test how far down the gas ends and the water layer begins? I'm trying to salvage the gas. Last year I had to take 200 liters to the dump and don't want to waste it again.

Reminds of a scene in a movie I saw as a kid. I can't remember the name but in the scene the house, and neighborhood , is completely destroyed and the tv turns on and it's the "Emergency Broadcast System" warning of imminent danger and to pay attention for further details.

What can go wrong WILL go wrong - advice needed

I change my own as well but have tried several adapters that screw onto your jug and they all suck. I usually make a big mess but it does work. Has anyone found a good jug adapter filler that works without having the hose pup off the spout? -
Glad you are ok. I believe I read some where that you may able to sue the other guy to make up the difference in what you lost to what the Insurance gave you. Can't remember where I read it though. Ask you insurer.

Thanks guys looking forward to a new lake to fish and get lost on.

I grabbed a 97 Yamaha 30 long shaft commercial model today for a grand. Runs good and should do the trip. All greased up and checked over and a pile of parts off the other one along with tools packed and ready too go. I have a trolling motor on the front and three batteries and a set of oars! Should be good to go.

The marina I took it too told me at least ten days before they even look at it! Too late. I'm looking at a 25 Nissan four stroke tomorrow. Sucks to have to buy one but it's got trim and better gas mileage! I will post back how we do. Can't wait to get there!!
-
I was testing out the motors on the boat this morning and the Yamaha 30 hp two stroke stopped shifting! I won't shift into neutral or reverse!!! I removed the lower unit and it appears it's the shift rod that isn't moving so something happened in the lower unit. Without the lower unit on the upper half shifts fine. Can anyone recommend a re builder in the GTA area that works fast? Thanks
-
I heard back and they sais they can only send them to Canada Express Mail. I will try Bills thanks
-
Ok I will try that thanks.

Ouch. I just tried to order on that site and it's 12 bucks for the parts and 48 bucks to ship! And that is American money! I'm hoping for a store near the GTA thanks
