  1. Very cool pics Laz. Sweet pontoon boat. I wonder if you can put a fish finder on it.LOL
  2. Sweet ride Cliff and congrats on the sweet muskie...Did you break a bottle of champagne on the bow and name it? P.S My dad has the same St. Croix hat.LOL
  3. Raccoon, the other white meat The garbage they eat makes their meat so tender...Also rich in Omega 3
  4. Mike, I'll trade you CCMT's soul for the 13' Rainshadow
  5. Welcome aboard Mike, from another Mike Mike
  6. The scent of Roe juice on a car’s upholstery is one of the greatest aphrodisiacs a steelheader can use
  7. Why don't the Leafs ever make the playoffs?
  8. Jacques uses the Lake O Atlantic salmon blend for his apples...The results speak for themselves
  9. Great vid BCLT. Sweet fish. This spring I took the centrepin out for the first time in a couple years for the carp and can’t remember why I just didn’t do more of it. I’ll definitely be doing more of it next season. Also eagerly awaiting the new Shimano few float rods due out next year which are geared more towards specimen-sized fish. I'm hoping to pick one up to use in some of the slack water areas of the Niagara and the St. Lawrence.
  10. If it didn't go all the way to absolute zero and it was priced better than $211 and the battery life was better than 2wks, it could make a pretty awesome bait cooler to keep worms in.
  11. Brian, on the river you must be like a Jedi...FEEL what the line is doing between the rod tip and the float...You must use your mind not your eyes
  12. Type 5 anodization...Not even a hammer + chisel can get through the finish
  13. Used Islanders usually go $200-$250...Excellent bang for the buck...Been running mine since the late 90’s and prior to that had the Pacific Steelheader. Hard to go wrong with Islander. Customer service is also amazing. Beyond steelhead, I use mine for carp when they're in the shallows.
  14. “Hey, isn’t that the one you lost?...IT IS! Hahahaha!” I still remember exactly where I caught it...Right underneath your rod tip They definitely do Erik. Still even see the odd pink salmon caught in Lake O tribs
  15. Why Raven? - I’ve only broken off once above the float in the 9yrs I’ve been using it – Even then it was my fault for casting in a tree...Can’t say the same for other brands of lines - It floats OK - It’s inexpensive at $12 for 820 yards - Also comes in low-vis...Don't like hi-vis Why 10-12lb or higher? - Why not? Why handicap yourself with something more prone to stretch, abrasion resistance and strength by going lighter? - 10-12lb Raven doesn’t stretch and dig into itself compared to 6-8lb Raven...After getting a big fish or pulling out of a snag on 6-8lb Raven, getting line to come off the spool naturally is an exercise in futility - It just digs in. - I don’t like super limp lines...I prefer stiffer lines for pull casting * With that said, 8lbs Maxima doesn’t break at 8lbs...I’ve tried
  16. But Rich he said for float fishing But I totally agree. For hardware, Jointed raps as well as the jointed thundersticks can be deadly in rivers. Steelhead just smash them. Mike, if you're in the Cobourg/Port Hope area anytime soon, see if you can hunt down Henry Lee. He makes hand-craftted wooden lures that work very well.
  17. 10-12lb Raven mono For backing I've got dacron on my Islander and fly line backing on my AngSpecs.
  18. At this time of year, the males will try to fertilize your shoes when you pick them up...Look for the kype and the canines.
  19. Ironically my lotto 649 dream would be to live like a hobo for a year and walk from one steelhead river to the next in BC. After that, I’m game for just about anywhere for anything
  20. Don’t worry, honest mistake. Live and learn. Usually when steelhead bucks get dark, they often have 1 red/pink stripe down each side (sometimes 2 if they’re large) along with rosy cheeks You generally find them that dark during winter (the fall runners waiting to spawn in spring) or later on after the spawn (dropbacks). The rest of the time they are CHROME Personally I've never tried eating a steelhead...Tried a salmon once from Lake O when I was 16...Didn't enjoy it all that much taste wise...It did give up a nice pair of skeins though.
  21. Me too...I really like that pic...Quite possibly my favourite pic of the year so far
  22. In Jacques backyard, the apples eat you Seriously, those look awesome...And huge! Now I want an apple tree
  23. Riverwood makes 3 inch ones but fatter. Berkley makes 4 & 6" pink worms as well - I know Lebaron carried them at one time. I've used pink worms up to 10 inches (My friend got them from BPS in Florida) and I managed to win $25 and a McDonalds apple pie...My friend bet me I couldn't catch a steelhead with one...But I did
