Looks good, Brian. Last night supper was venison stew, delicious! Of course, when you start with a couple small roasts for the stew meat, it's going to be pretty good! Doug

I had FORGOTTEN about your mayfly larva and bloodworm mini-flies. 😲 So I just rectified that and we shall see if the perch like them tomorrow. Last time out, they really wanted a big minnow. But if they come in to the buffet and don't feel like a meal, maybe they will go for the snack! Thanks for the reminder. (And please wish me luck!) Doug

Marcel bought one of those steel boats from Dave and ran it into a shoal on the Ottawa River. Didn't hurt it a bit! That shoal would have opened up an aluminum boat like a can opener. 😉 Great memories for sure.

I really should have gone out today for one last kick at the can..........🙄

This salmon was also from Queen Charlotte Lodge, June 2022. It's a long story, but QCL really screwed up our fish boxes and by the time we got home, everything inside was thawed. The vacuum packaging had not been done particularly well either. So yes indeed, springs from out there are generally delicious, but this particular fillet was not exactly prime.

Yep, that is the light at the end of the tunnel for sure. Doug

By the title of the thread I was thinking this was going to be about ice fishing for crappies.............🙄 South of CrowMan down around Kingston, the ice is getting pretty sketchy. It is supposed to go down a bit tonight and be below zero in the morning, but...but...but...I am not in a real hurry to see if my floater suit works or not. Shortest ice season I can recall. Doug

Gravity water filter systems for camping
akaShag replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
At the beginning of the pandemic I wanted something for SHTF water purification and did a fair bit of research. I bought a Big Berkey filter, which filters EVERYTHING. It was somewhat pricey but not that heavy. A lot lighter than 25 gallons of water, for sure! Doug -
Tonight's supper was a chinook salmon fillet from Haida Gwaii. I think the whitie would have been better............😲 Doug

Pent-up demand..............same down this way in Southeastern Ontario..........but I doubt Loughborough is safe yet.

I have a few buddies who have hunted in Africa (but I forget which country/countries). They did not remark on the hunts being too easy. I am guessing that there are slimmer pickings outside the game preserves, but honestly I have no idea. I think their TAXIDERMY bills were more than the hunt itself! 😲

Awesome! Lots of the big cats! The hunter in me had the crosshairs on quite a few of those critters. Your camera caught lots of them in perfect poses. Doug

Where's my dip net!!! AWESOME video! Doug

Good on you, Cliff! Nothing better than a feed of fresh perch! Doug

Smoked whitie, my favourite! Supper tonight was moose tortillas, I think a good swap would be them for some smoked whitefish, we need to get together one of these years! Doug

Should have mentioned, that fishing trip on the Nechako was cut short by a grizzly bear across the river (as you can see in the photo, not a really wide river at that point!!!) And the grizzly was taking a great interest in us (we had a few rainbows on the bank), and our elk rifles were a quarter mile away in the truck.............AND if you ever shot a grizzly bear, even in self-defence, you are going to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We got out of Dodge. And the rainbows were not all that good for table fare, rather disappointing really. So yes, the high point of that fishing session was catching the northern pikeminnows. Doug
