Well?.. What are you waiting for Northhunter?... Go West young man!
-
Roy asked a very good question, a minnow should stay alive for quite a while when hooked properly... and behind the dorsal above the spine aand lateral line is a good place when a vertical presentation is being used. Another way I like to hook mine is... insert the hook point into one of the nostrils and out under the "chin", there is a fleshy area there and when the hook is inserted properly it offers little resistance to the hook. This takes practice, but when done properly... I believe it is the least injurious to the bait and keeps them nice and wiggley. A lively minnow will certainly get more strikes than a dead or barely moving one.

30 cm.?... how many degrees Celcius is that?

When I fish the dam, I'm always using artificial. All of these fish except the pike (and thousands more) were caught on an inline spinner with a dressed hook.
-
My summer starts with the opening of Red Snapper season! Then it's nude fishin' at the dam for Spotted Bass! ... and sometimes Ol' Yeller comes out with me! and of course, this year... like last year it means Lakair!
-
The best of luck to ya Mike! Hope y'all get some nice one!!!

Well I'm not sensitive and I'm one of the most relaxed people you'll ever meet. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the employment opportunities for western Canada pretty much common knowledge for all Canadians?... and have been for years? Hasn't the Canadian government been pushing to populate the west for years? So your message isn't any kind of new news. To tell you the truth, the employment opportunities and pay you described didn't sound all that great to me. Time and a half pay for hours over 40 is the law in most places. It also doesn't sound much different than what folks living in other parts of Canada are making. If the Alberta and Sask governments want people to come work there, they need to sweeten the pot more than that... or look elsewhere for people to man the jobs. Which it sounds like is what they're doing. what really chaps my ass is the general belief among some white Anglos that immigrants are coming to our countries and stealing our jobs. They're not! they're taking the low paying, no glory, and dirty jobs we don't want and can't hire anybody else to do. They're the backbone of the crap job work force!
-
Don't Believe it Lew!!!... those good for nothin' Groundhogs would rather climb the tallest tree in the forest and tell a lie... than stand on the ground and tell the truth!
-
Excuse me but, both Canada and the U.S. were built on immigration! If you're not of native American descent, that's how you got here. I'm glad to hear about the employment opportunities, but most young people nowadays don't want the tough jobs like construction and laboring. They don't want to be hot, or cold, or wet, or dirty, or muddy, or greasy... they want to be in nice clean climate control. The immigrants will work harder and be more appreciative. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go mix concrete by hand in a light freezing drizzle.

HA! That day prolly would've killed me! I'd have been a frozen "Lump", prolly on the way out... y'all done good! Excellent report and those are the best cell phone pics I've ever seen.

The Hell you say? -
Not sure about ice applications, but I've been looking at them to put one on my boat. Let us know how you like it, the good and the bad. I've seen other members with them and it looks like they do a good job! Smokey and Terry, how do you like them?
-
Why waste the time to fillet them? All us Southern boys fry our panfish whole. Just scale, behead, and gut the little guys. Throw them in a gallon zip loc back with your favorite fry mix and throw them in the pan, allow about 3 mins. per side (depending on the size of the fish). Remove from pan and place on paper towels to drain. Use a fork and start at the dorsal removing the meat from the back bone on the side that is facing up... when all the meat is removed from that side, simply remove the back bone with an upward pull and there's another fine fillet laying there! It takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll never waste the time to fillet small fish. Not nearly as much waste as filleting (meat AND time). I never fillet any fish shorter than 12".

They call it the "Metro Sled", it's an old Nash Metropolitan body... nicely redone.
