The absolute best way to match the hatch is to catch a fish and cut it open and examine the stomach contents!... or maybe put it in the live well for a bit and see if it regurgetates anything! You can also open the mouth of the fish and look down the gullet, sometimes if they're feeding on crawfish you can see a claw on antennae sticking out! Like this!

A couple of beauty fish there Rizz!!! ... and while they make a real nice picture, Muskies caught while trolling count for little or nothing eh?!!! ... but thanks for taking the time to post anyway!!!

Excellent report, video, and pics Simon!!! Now that's a Walleye!!! Don't worry about the tourney sign, I've got a feeling you'll catch an even bigger one!!! Thanks for taking the time to post that report!

Ha!!! I told you that you were going to get addicted to making your own baits!!! They look real good Jacques!!! I don't think they'll produce too much right now because the water is getting too cold for topwater up there, but I'm sure you'll catch a bunch of fish on them next summer!!! Keep up the good work!!!

"fall bass fishing is the best" ????
Greencoachdog replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Face it Bubba, the only thing you're good at catching is trapped warm water pond fish! There's a big difference between early fall and late fall fishing! What are the surface temps of the water you're fishing? Mid to low 50's (*F), maybe even high 40's? Bass slow way down when the temps drop that low, they still eat... but not near as much as when the water is warmer, especially Largemouth Bass. I think Smallies are a little more cold water tolerant than Largies. I have found that Largies and Spotted Bass in my area tend to school up and suspend in deep water when the temps drop into the mid 50's and lower, they find the warmest water they can and hang out there. The fish aren't stupid, they know the water is only going to get colder! If you want some decent fishing up there right now you should target cold water tolerant species like Perch, Crappie, and Trout! Live minnows will catch a lot of fish in cold water! -
TV fishing shows about sight fishing for bedding/spawning Bass are very popular and appeal to a large audience because it shows the viewers how to do it... it is Larry Nixons claim to fame! I don't agree with the practice, nor do I participate... if I ever catch an 8 lber. it won't be because I snatched it off the bed!

You don't need a tripod!!! All of my fish pics are taken like this! I'm sure that new Lund has a nice pedestal seat for the bow?

I disagree, hunters shouldn't be hunting a pond in the first place, but if they were... I would give them clearance, but I wouldn't leave the water! I have just as much right to fish it as they do to hunt it!... and if I scare the birds away, well that's just one for the birds.. they'll make more babies next year for the hunters to shoot at!!! I see the Big Bad bird hunters on the lake I fish in the winter, it is a populated lake with many houses on it!... most of the waterfowl are tame on this lake and will come up to your boat for handout... they almost pets really!... would y'all like someone shooting you dog or cat in the name of the sport of hunting??? Hunters need to stick to wilderness areas, if for no other reason than if they accidently shoot someone it'll either be anouther hunter... or themelves!!!

As stated above fiction. They catch the better fish by hiring a guide or by fishing private lakes that are closed to the public (Bill Dance is notorious for this).

Cold weather fishing and Hypothermia
Greencoachdog replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
... and you've been living in Canada for how long??? When you start getting cold, it's either time to leave, time to go warm up in the car, or time to go to the car and get some extra clothes. I always carry a spare set of insulated coverall in the truck with me in the winter (and usually don't take them out in the summer). Drinking something hot like coffee, hot chocolate, or hot tea will warm you up the fastest when you are severly chilled! -
Seriously Twocoda, you can buy one of the little usb cables that plugs into your camera and a USB port on your puter... it's all I use! http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/1454/DC-CBSY-B/ They sell them at Wal-Mart in the electronics dept... very cheap!

Probably turbulence interference. A suction cup mount is about the worst way to mount a transducer, you should check into one of these. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&id=0000844 Roy is right about not marking fish in less than 15 FOW if you just have a single or dual beam transducer... but! if you have a triple or quadruple beam transducer your cone will be much larger in shallow water than with single or dual beams.

Early Morning Thanksgiving Steelhead Report
Greencoachdog replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry Cliff, but I had to chuckle when I read this line: ... ya think??? Those fish may not be real big.. but they are real purdy!!! I used to use a bobber for Crappies and would stare at that thing all day for the bite that pulls it under, I'd stare at it so much... it would be all I could see at night when I closed my eyes to go to sleep! Thanks for taking the time to post!... and I hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving!!! *insert Turkey emoticon here* btw... try stripping off a few meters of leader material from your spool and see if the inner line is stronger. -
Excellent report and pics Kevin!!! Some real nice fish and that big'un is a HAWG!!! Thanks for taking the time to post!!!
-
Excellent report and pics Hosette!!! The fall colors are beautiful... but that sleet and cold would absolutely kill me right now!!! It's good to see JP is doing well!... and you and Paul look well too! That Paul is a Pike magnet eh! Thanks for taking the time to post those nice pics and report!!!

Lemme guess, lemme guess!!! Y'all were actually targeting Smallies, so Bly's catches were incidentals and she was actually skunked on the targeted species!!! Man! I knew that trash talk you did in your last report about your fish eating her 2 in one gulp wasn't going to be good for you in the future Cliff!!! Looks like y'all had a real good day out on the water... but dangit man that looks cold!!! One question... who was fishing the back of the boat and who was on the bow? Glad to hear Big Cliff and Sue are on the mend, thanks for that update Cliff! Thanks for taking the time to post that great report Cliff ... I know you were "biting the bullet" while writing it!

... yup! both of my camera's are Sony Cyber-Shots!!!... no excuse, 'puter and printer reads them all fine and well... with or without the adapter crap..... I guess a poor excuse is better than no excuse! my guess is that maybe you should take pics anyway... that way you'll have something to share with the old ladies in the coffee clatch!!!
