My goals are to learn simcoe smallies. Never really tried that before. Related to that I want to become more skilled at dropshotting. I also want to improve on my crankbait techniques. And teach my boys how to use a baitcaster.

Legendary sight fisherman Shaw Grigsby won his first BASS tournament in 11 years. Way to go! This was the first weigh-in I've ever seen on espn.com. Quite entertaining if I do say. Anyone else watch this? Also, it's amazing that JVD, nephew of KVD, cracked the top 10 in his first ever tournament. Must be in the genes. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/news/story?page=b_ES_SunshineShowdown_johnson_D4_gamer

Hi OFNers I'm getting the gear ready for a new softwater season and a couple of my baitcasters are in need of some new bearings, at least I think it's the bearings since it's casting a bit loud and rough. I usually clean, lube and maintain my own gear, but I might need a pro for these two reels. I guess I have two questions. 1. Is there a place locally in the GTA where I can buy these bearings? 2. Is there a place locally in the GTA that's a top notch reel servicer? Thanks.

for those of you who like the Nuge!

Great choice. have you seen the live pink pop version. it's incredible.

i installed one last year. it is awesome. installation. How's it go again? Cut twice, measure once? haha. read all the instructions carefully. tip. invest in or borrow a torque wrench. a regular socket wrench is too short and made my job way too difficult. consider placement carefully as the safety chains have to be on trailer and not the foldaway part. and most importantly be careful not to cut the wire that runs through the trailer. Cut about 2/3 of the way down and then stick a thin piece of plastic in the cut to lift up the wire above the blade. other than that it works like a charm.

Now I just skimmed through the thread but get the gist. Here's my question. What do you do with any fish that you catch that unintentionally dies, but happens to be illegal to keep? (i.e. OOS, not within slot limits etc, possession limit, etc....). Do you dump the evidence? I know you can't keep it. I'm sure this happens all the time. For example, "i have a friend..." just kidding. But say you catch an OOS muskie while fishing for pike or walleye and it dies. What do you do with it?

Another nod for the Subaru. I've towed a small 14 ft tinny with it and you hardly knew it was there and the AWD is flawless in all weather conditions and at the launches. Now I use a 02 4Runner. It's a workhorse. Fully loaded with a 16.5ft Lowe w/ 50Hp motor and again, no probs.

Use the Double Uni Knot. Not two way swivel. You'll chip your guides.

I headed to my first destination fishing trip w/ the buddies. 4 of us to Anglers Kingdom next week. I can't wait!

I'd add a Jake/Grandma lure, and some sort of glide bait like a Magic Maker.

I have always just assumed that having a hydrofoil would increase top end, but after seeing these two comparison videos I now have my doubts. If you read his comments, he said he lost 8mph on the top end w/ the hydrofoil. Anyone else do any comparison tests? w/o hydrofoil w/ hydrofoil

i was looking into the same option: using a swimbait rod for musky fishing. So i asked a rod seller on ebay and what he said made sense to me. Generally speaking swimbait rods are medium action, whereas musky rods have a faster tip. So swimbaits have a more parabolic bend, the musky rods, bend more at the tip with a stronger backbone. So he says swimbaits can work w/ smaller spinners and even trolling, but wouldn't be good for heavier lures, or for stickbaits or gliders and the like. Made sense to me. hope it helps.

I get all my musky leaders from charlier2753 on ebay. he does something a bit different. he uses two different clasps first of all. and then he throws a not around the clasp and ball bearing and then crimps. He's a great guy to deal w/ from Wisconsin and I have his leaders on all my rods. here's what he says on his leader listing.... "These leaders are made by me. I use 100% fluorocarbon line in 130lb. test. The ball bearing swivel is 143lb. test. The snap is a size 5-300lb. test stringease stay loc. Many fishermen are wanting a little more than a 12in. leader. Therefore, I am offering 14 inches and longer. The ball bearing swivel and snap are tied with a big game cable knot. This knot retains 100% of the pound test of the line. This is important because many knots offer only 60-80% pound test of the line. Crimps instead of knots are unreliable. The crimps you see on my leaders are to take up loose ends to give the leader an improved appearance and add more security. If you question anything about my leaders, just check my feedback. It speaks for itself. Thanks, Charlie."

thanks for the info. lots of options, just a matter of pulling the trigger and deciding on a place. we're going for sure, just a matter of fitting it into the budget. if anyone else has any more info, please let me know.

the site i visit from time to time that's out of the States is http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/ These guys really know their stuff and there are a lot of folks w/ a variety of opinions which include the odd pro, weekend warriors, tourney fishermen, and tackle and repair shop owners.

hey folks i'm looking to go to a fly-in (or drive in) lake fishing resort in northern ontario in late june/early july this year. any great places you can recommend would be awesome. good service, good price, great fishing for walleye and pike. I'm looking to spend somewhere between 500-1000 per person. i always wanted to go to Kesagami, but it's just too steep for my wallet. thanks.

Can't wait to see the changes. FYI, when i view this page using my Macbook and Safari, and open a thread with pics, i guess this message: "SLOW SCRIPT" and then the pictures don't load. If you can address that, that'd be great. But if not, that's okay, I'll continue using Firefox. Thanks.
